In terms of starpower or appeal I don't think anyone can match the Khans bcos as someone rightly pointed out, the era of super stardom is over now. People do not connect to today's stars as much as they have connected to the Khans etc. I think Ranbir too has more of 'credibility' wala fanbase rather than 'superstardom' wala crazy fanbase. That is why his Besharam clicks on day 1 but as negative reviews and wom start pouring in, the film tanks.

However, if you are talking about which actor from new generation will fit into which 'niche' (like Aamir was considered intelligent actor, Salman as masala hero and SRK as romantic one) and be approached for those type of roles in future then here are my guesses:

Aamir--> Ranbir (He has pretty much balanced everything till now- critics, commerce, fans etc. just like Aamir. Will be approached for those roles first)

Salman--> Varun, for those type of comedies and massy entertainers, Ranveer/Arjun for the massy action entertainers.

SRK--> Sid seems to be following SRK's footsteps honestly speaking, but offscreen connect with the audience is something Ranveer possesses and he has been accepted in romantic roles too. Difficult to decide his 'successor'.

ARK seems to be doing only romantic films for now (DEI, then Fitoor and Milan Talkies) so I am guessing he is trying to make a place in that genre.

Rajkumar Rao will probably fit into the Irrfan/Nawazuddin niche and get those type of roles.

And finally, Sushant. Honestly speaking, I myself don't know the niche/genre for him. The films he has done till now, or is doing in the future, are such that they would have been slotted into indie/parallel/art cinema few years back, but today, they have some mainstream elements- either being backed by mainstream production houses, having mainstream packaging and so on. Plus Sushant himself is very much considered a mainstream actor, unlike, say Rajkumar Rao. And he isn't even sticking to one particular genre. So, yeah, at the moment I don't know what to say about him.

PS: For those saying Sushant is over, umm, no, he isn't. It's just that he isn't in news right now bcos he has no films releasing this year and his PR has pretty much kept him under wraps for reasons known best to them. Not having films for one year hasn't harmed Ranveer, Sid or Varun, so not sure why it should be taken as end of Sushant's career either.
Last year Arjun was pretty much proclaimed hopeless after Pari walked away with all praise for Ishaqzaade and Aurangzeb failed, but look how tables have turned for him this year after all his films released! :)

I am a Ranbir fan but frankly, I don't see any of the current lot having the career longevity or success heights of the Khans or BigB.

My choice for future top stars - Ranbir and Ranveer.
I will be happy if Varun also becomes a big star in future, but he needs to work hard for it! 😊
