You left many 90s hits and cults only to jump to 2000s?
Anyway Lagaan is a great film, very well made, amazing ensemble cast, good music, feel good, inspiring, patriotic and great message.
The cricket match is as exciting as any real life match.

I watched it in theatre. People got crazy when Team Lagaan won.

This film revived Aamir's career and gave him that intellectual image. Ever since it got nominated at Oscars people started associating Aamir with quality and even started digging quality in his past films due to changed perception.
All his past flops were also called hits.
A landmark in both his career and history of cinema.

Ashutosh Gowariker proved himself as the unlikely underdog winner too.

Load of National and international honours this film has won, deservingly so.

I think aamir took a huge risk with this movie and it paid off.. It just shows that if a movie is good, has good script, good songs and great acting... It will work..
Keep in mind.. This movie was released together with gader.. Which did a huge business and was the highest grossing movie of the year.. Yet it still did a phenomenal business..

One of the complete movie I have seen.. It has all the great ingredient .. From direction to songs and acting.. Everything is great about this movie..

The only ironic thing was the heroine. Gracy Singh faded out.

The 90's movies topics went for a long time. I posted over 15, but seems like people were bored. Time to move on, I think Lagaan was a great movie. 👍🏼

Releasing with Gadar was no risk because Sunny was going through low patch and he and his director weren't considered forces to reckon with. Most probably Aamir would have thought his film would flop.😆
Whereas film proved to be a massive surprise despite media never supporting it unlike Lagaan that had media support even before release.

Ideally LP the 2000s topic should have started with KNPH for the surprise it was, new star it gave and how it jolted all seniors for a while. Most phenomenal debut of the last decade.

Yes, KNPH is for next week. Today was Aamir day on IF, so enjoy Lagaan and his movies. 😉
