Ra.One 😆

But yeah true, Gupta and Anubhav Sinha look so alike. I second that.

However, Gupta at least has a film like Kaante to his credit. He has a flair for style. And Sujoy Ghosh of Kahaani is writing the film, which means the film would also have substance. Stunt director of the Fast and Furious series is apparently the action director. And a big HW production house is backing it. It has more chances of working than going wrong as of now. It should work unless Gupta screws up too bad.

Edit: It's not a remake of Salt.

I am no fan of Ash but I wonder why people doubt on her acting abilities?
Have you all seen Chokher Baali or Provoked? If these are not good acting then I donno what is! Agreed she did saome crappy films but it's not like she's a non actor!

Aishwarya's Bride and Prejudice a hit. Back in 2004 it made over 25 million in collections - which was unheard of for an Indian actress back then, because the film didn't work in India everyone assumes it was a flop - but that is def not the case!

Like I said her movies usually don't work because they are risky cinema. I think anyone can star in a Kal Ho Na Ho or Hum Tum but to choose movies like Raincoat, Chokar Bali, Shabd - even Guzarish, Guru and raavan weren't exactly "mainstream roles". She's always taken the alternative path and I think that's her biggest strength. I mean look at it this way, here we are talking about her and she hasn't been on screen for 4 years and her last hit was in 2007. For me that is more significant than starting in hit movies

What I noticed here in Bollywood Section is that people only care about your work in Bollywood alone (which makes sense). But judging a person's abilities based on BW alone, when they have spread out their career in different industries isn't so rational to me.

Aishwarya has had phenomenal success in South Indian movies. 5 movies and 4 superhits/blockbusters, and one other film being Mani Ratnam's movie Iruvar, which tanked because of a political controversy, but is believed to be one of the finest pieces of Indian cinema and won many an award. She did one Bengali film, Chokher Bali, she won Best actress for it and the film won National award for best film and was a Box office hit. In English, she had potential blockbuster offers like Troy, Mr and Mrs Smith, Hancock, Rush Hour, Seven Pounds - but she goes and does a Bride and Prejudice and Provoked, which rested completely on her shoulders, and both saw decent critical/commercial success. Of course there are films which did not work like Mistress of Spices and The Last legion but that's part and parcel of the game.

It's not without reason she is so popular. Movies played a big part in it. Especially movies outside the periphery of Bollywood made her the most popular actress down South, where people hardly watch BW movies. And internationally too. Of course brands like L'oreal and Longines, Cannes etc helped, but the very reason they happened were because of Devdas, a film where she delivered a splendid performance.

There seems to be some hype in the media about her return though can't say the same about the projects. South stars backed out of her Mani Ratnam project. She's teaming up with Sanjay Gupta who has give 5 duds and an average grosser in his career. Also talks about another film with her hubby who's reduced to sidekick roles nowadays.

Do you think she can make a strong comeback against all the odds and regain some of her star power in 2000s? No actress has done it in their 40s apart from a hit film here or there. Can she change BW trend? Your thoughts.

I am so set to answer this.

Her last 5 films were Raavan,Raavanan,Robot,AR,Guzaarish...out of which Raavanan was a superhit and Robot was the BIGGEST EVER blockbuster of Indian cinema(and a substantial role). She gained tremendous acclaim and awards for her superlative performance in Guzaarish. And Raavan/an made it to countless film festivals and has received standing ovation from the audience, plus she was louded for her performance. Its just the indian audience stuck with B-grade masala films like Rowdy etc do not tend to appreciate different cinema.2010 was a pretty bad year for actresses and the scenerio was worse for other actresses, comparatively she has a much better year.

Anyways, just having a box-office blockbuster in india is not really a compliment considering the quality of the films. But OFCOURSE box-office matters!!No denying..its about time great content gets immensely appreciated box office wise too.

Though she will always be known for her otherworldly beauty first, there is no denying that she is one of the FINEST A-list actresses in the India. She gave a great performance in her debut itself, then lot of amazing performances in films like HDDCS,Devdas,Raincoat,Chokher bali,Provoked,KK,Guru,Jodhaa Akbar,Sarkar Raj,Guzaarish etc.Ofcouse she did few really bad films like aur pyar ho gaya etc which were no good performances either. But barring these few stupid films,SHE has one the BEST filmographies for an Indian actress EVER,and her range/versatility is just amazing.GOOD films will be remembered not HIT films.Box office is for today, acclaim is forever.

If there is one person who can change it all it is ONLY and ONLY Aishwarya. At the age of 30 when people used to say that actresses are only good to play motherly roles, she did a Dhoom 2 and it turned out to be the biggest grossing bollywood movie then.

She is 40 now and will so the same.If she wanted a hit she could clearly have signed HNY but she doesn't need a khan to do it for her.Kajol did that and though those films were hits, look at her now!How jobless she is and is thinking for television.

Not to forget that Aishwarya is not only a Pan-Indian star but India's most well-known and the biggest international female star too.

Now coming to her upcoming movies

The south stars have NOT backed out yet(like you wish,I guess)

Mahesh Babu has clarified in a recent interview that he is part of the Mani Ratnam film and his dates are being worked out.Shooting may start within few months. The film will also be dubbed in Hindi.

Sanjay Gupta's last film was a sure shot HIT,and so were Shootout At lokhandwala and Kaante.

Jazbaa is being produced by a big Hollywood Studio. It is an official remake of an international hit.The script is being written by none other than Sujoy Ghosh.Action director of Captain America,Fast And furious is taking care of the action. It is a complete Aishwarya-show,and she will be seen doing some high-octane action. She apparently plays a spy. There are two heroes and Sanjay Gupta has said that he might approach John Abraham/Abhishek bachchan/Shahid kapoor for the roles.

That isn't exciting?!It has all the ingredients to do perfectly(and if well promoted then 'massively') well commercially.
I am not a fan of Sanjay Gupta either, but he clearly is very commercial and make the best efforts now that he has Aishwarya on board.

Now all I wish is that she says 'yes' to Mohenjodaro.

if gupta has kaante, then anubhav has dus. flair for style😆didn't i say, bhai bhai.
now coming to ash doing some stylish movie. sorry imo she just doesn't fit in these angrez kinda stylish movies...it will end up looking unintentionally funny. we have all seen that one epic line which created history...check me out. and when this check was happening ..remember she was much younger , petite, and single.
what is ash famous for.
her beauty/angelic look, her dances, her period costumes, ...her MOIST eyes. a quote from bhansali: "what made me sign ash, her moist eyes, and believe me , each day she came on sets with moist eyes"
when one goes to see her movies, they want all this...don't tell me suddenly some anubhav or sanjays, bring her in angelina get up and throw at all...but hey, i am not going to complain...i will get my solid entertainment from this, guaranteed.
ash has to really get a director, who is going mould her again what she is famous for. the director has to keep her in her comfort zone and simply apply all the skills she has to fullest.
like i said, a vidya or sri can carry few extra pounds and create magic with their acts, but unfortunately ash ...not!
this is what happens when your beauty overshadows your whatever --thodi si acting skills you have. even for dancing, shed all weight asap, cos when age catches up and you are a mother, its tough mann...
just yesterday i was talking about rekha ji's khoobsoorat. there is another movie of hers called ghar. fantastic movie.
i want to see ash doing movies like this. typical indian woman, clad in sarees, with a long braid, and a bindi, how about a dance teacher, happily married , you can even a child😆 and then thunder strikes. watch that movie, i am not going to spoil, if you haven't.
i think she can easily pull this, and pretty sure critics gonna love it as well. she shouldn't think big, she shouldn't think about competition, she shouldn't care about that oh so perfect figure, ...she still has that perfect face...just be urself, don't try too hard. you can win.
don't send her to some hollywood with these anubhavs and some sanjays..baap reh baap...😆
btw...moist eyes...😆don't even think bhai is going to come back to her to give her that moisture. and abhishek is all high dry!!!!
bahut naainsaafi haiii...

😆 true that about Gupta-Sinha. Come to think of it, Dus was indeed very stylishly made. But it had no substance, Kaante had that though. I think even Quentin Tarantino loved the film and they were gonna remake it in HW but things didn't work out.

Coming to competition, Ash doesnt seem to care about competition, cos seriously, who will turn down a blockbuster material film like HNY! Clearly states her priorities about rat race. Her choices have always been bold and different. She hardly did the same kinda role ever. Even now - though I think Gupta's film is risky, it's exciting at the same time. We are not seeing Ash in a beauty-dance film where all she will do is show off her strengths [exact mistake Madhuri did - she danced for 15 years, took a break and came to dance again in Aaja Nachle, who'd be interested? Reinvent yourself man!]. Audiences want to see you in a new look, doing different things, even someone like SRK and Aamir had to build a six pack after two decades in the industry. That is the sign. Ash is doing just that.

She needs to return to her former self that people fell in love with.
Needs to get in shape.

As for films she has been away for too long wouldn't expect her to carry a film on her own unless it's a good film. Doubt it.

So she needs a star face to accompany her who has still been visible in the spotlight. Only one I can think of is Hrithik.
