Aishwarya was offered the film. I think she said no because she wanted to avoid a Dhoom 2 scenario where her pairing with another actor took all the credit and Abhishek was left with nothing. Deepika was the first choice when the film was going to be made years and years ago. When it finally went on floors, she was almost the last choice (Kareena, Priyanka were never approached). SRK didn't want to repeat the pairing right after CE...so they went to many actresses, including Ankita Lokhande. But eventually decided on DP after CE worked..and anyways, she'd always wanted to do the film.

@Scorpio...Kajol got a lot of offers because age was on her side...she retired very young...same was not the case with other actresses who were much older..
If she gives a hit by herself, it would mean people are still interested in seeing her = more offers. Most comebacks fail so a hit will be good. Sridevi is different. She's from the 80's. She's considered older than the Khans and she is older. A hit film won't get her a film where she's romantically paired with Khans. At best she will play their bhabhi, if not mother. BW doesn't make age difference love stories especially where the girl is older. Aishwarya on the other hand CAN work with them. So a hit will make her a good actress to be paired with.
