Well, I certainly don't think Ash is an average actress. She for sure is not. The problem with the audience is that when someone is the best looking, they can't really see the acting part even if they are extremely good actors because beauty overshadows the acting and they think just another beautful face with no talent, or not comprehending that one can be both beautiful and talented.. Same with someone average looking, but if they are acting good, they will be considered the best actor ever because they have no beauty so their acting comes out first to be noticed. It's the same with legend Madhubala who was first noticed for her acting during her childhood, but after she became grown up, she started becoming to notice for her beauty than anything else. Though, Ash is no where Madhubala, but just as an example so saying. Same here.

Ash is one of the best actress around and very versatile too. She can act, beautiful, and dance. Full package, but then again the fact is no matter how much she is a good actress, she became famous, gained popularity, and became known mainly because of her beauty, and her affair affair with Salman, and finally being a Bachan Bahus. Aa her beauty, affair with Salman, and becoming Bachan Bahu were more in news and beauty etc gave more popularity.

For example. here people in my Family get curios to see her photos etc not because of her acting and anything, but because they want to know how she looks like now after being mother. Does she look the same or looks ugly and far? Her affair with Salman is always talked about. Even the ones who don't know about Bollywood know her because she is considered the most beautiful woman in the world in news, so they have got to know her.

But again her beauty did make her huge famous, but it would've been no possible without Ash's intelligence even if that means being huge manipulative to gain success. She does do things at the right time and has this mystery aura about her which makes people always want to know where she is now, what she does, when she will be back, how does she look, and so on. So, it's not just beauty like someone said about Dia MIrza who was also extremely beautiful but no where. Ash just used her strengths, i.e beauty, to gain success through her intelligence and hard work, and of course destiny was on her side.

Well firstly I disagree with the fact that she is just famous for her looks, for the fact that she is one of the most beautiful actresses ever..She was chosen the Miss World..and its not just about looks..Its about brains too..Or else every stunning girl in India would have been a Miss World..
As an actress ofcourse she is not as multitalented or exceptional as Sri or Madhuri is..they are something else altogether..No comparision..
But I give full credit to Aish for what she has achieved in her career..without a Godfather..without a star surname..
Or else many pretty faces came and vanished in thin air..No one became The Aishwarya Rai..Sonali was beautiful, so was Diya and and many others..The characters that she has played are synonymous to Aish now..Unforgettable..Be it Paro or Nandini or Mansi or Jodha ..People used to watch movies just to see her.even the flop movies...that was her aura once..This has happened with very few actresses and Aish is one of them..So Yes for me she is Iconic ..despite all flops..despite all the criticism..despite all the hatred..She is one of those actresses who will be remembered forever..whenever Hindi Cinema would be discussed..

I think you are over praising madz here and under praising ash

if ash will be remembered for being beautiful then madz will be remembered for her dances

and you say people will rush to the cinemas to see a new madhuri movie- her recent box office records totally deny it despite having average reviews- says A LOT on star power!

Then how about Aish's so called 'starpower' as the TM saying? I think she has the maximum flops/disasters even more than Madz! All her last releases tanked- Guzaarish/Ravan/Action Replay! Guzaarish even with good reviews and a bigger star like Hrithik 🤣

All her so called women-centric movies Raincoat/Provoked/Umraao Jaan/Shabd ETC ETC are not only flops but DISASTERS! 😆
So definitely Aish's star power talks here who couldn't deliver hits even in her prime...atleast Madz gave numbers of Hits/Superhits in her prime even with no star/women centric movies like Raja/Mrityudand ETC 😆
The actress who couldn't give hits but mostly disasters/flops in her prime, how is she a damn freakin 'SUPERSTAR'? 🤣

Well, Aishwariya does represent Bollywood and what not but when I ask a non-Indian/non-desi about "Bollywood", they usually say Shahrukh Khan... But that's besides the point... Aish didn't make a name internationally for her "acting talent"...She is acclaimed internationally for her glamour and beauty quotient... Some people don't even know that she is Indian.. All they know is that she is the "most beautiful women"... Most of her international acclaims are due to her appearance and looks which she was just blessed with from her parents (didn't really have to work for that).. She isn't "iconic" for her acting talent or career... Yes, she is iconic in the beauty and glamour world (fashion and pageants) but when it comes to acting and being a great or remotely amazing actress, she is not iconic in that sense because she hasn't had a single role which I can remember as a pathbreaking, or amazing, or iconic performance... Ultimately, she will be remembered for her looks and NOT her acting...
So for the Fashion/pageant/beauty industry, she is iconic.. For the acting industry, she is not...

Really Aish is no icon, whenever I hear this makes me 😆 .

Known in international circuits due to her Loreal ambassadorship and her appearances in Cannes. Not because of movies but for a brand that she gets an invite to Cannes.

She is below average actress and 1 or 2 movies she has acted well. Otherwise in her own home country her movies have flops.

Plus she has a very good PR, who keeps her relevant. By hyping up her beauty.

Flops never mattered to her stardom never had and never will, Aishwarya is not just a star but Superstar and that is a fact which is hard to deny, her name sells even tiny bit of news of hers make headlines which proves she matters even at being 40! where are all those actresses who was put against her? they have been replaced by Deepika etc. But Aishwarya still gets offered Happy New Year with SRK which she refuses, others would have killed themselves to be part of that movie.
We say Rani and Preity are better actresses which is a individual opinion and not some fact, Both of them survived coz of Khans and big banners which kicked them out when they found new faces, and same thing happened with poor Kareena right now, that what happens when you put your own career on others shoulders. Aishwarya never did that, her last movie with Khans was Devdas, which is like about 14 years ago? and she is STILL SURVIVED at this moment. She might not have many hits but she took risks and did versatile work, some worked some did not, but that's the same with all the actors no?

People say she is known for just her beauty, fair enough! she is a beautiful woman and we cannnot deny that, but why isn't Sushmita, PC, Dia, Lara become has huge as her? all these women are also beautiful and won titles, why is Aishwarya the only one who considers the superstar among all? there must be something to her then just pretty looks.

And some people are just ill informed, even Aishwarya's off beat movies did well at the BO (if that what is matters only)

Chokher Bali was declared HIT
http://www.aishwarya-spice.com/interviews/2003-2/2003-chokher-bali-is-a-hit/

Raincoat did extremely well despite being a art film
http://www.aishwarya-spice.com/interviews/2004-2/2004-raincoat-has-emerged-a-winner-at-the-box-office/

Provoked did good too
http://www.aishwarya-spice.com/interviews/2007-2/2007-provoked-steals-bigger-opening-than-namesake/

So they are surely not disasters as somebody claimed, do some research, and Aishwaya's biggest women centric hit is Bride and Prejudice! but we don't bother to mention the success of her women centric movies coz its perhaps easier and fun to put her down, but you cannot deny the facts which are out there and screams that these movies did PRETTY well at BO (will repeat myself, "if that's the all which matters for people at IF) and that too few years back.

and sooner she will shine the screen in Mani Ratnam's next where she will once again prove that she is not just a pretty face, YES YET AGAIN! poor Ash, people will never give her a credit.
