I don't think its debatable that Ash has been one of the most popular faces not only in Bollywod but in the world. Its said in terms of popularity shes only second to SRK and Amitabh.

She certainly has achieved a lot, but some say her achievements are all related to her off-screen life. Many will say her iconic status has nothing to do with her movies and box office performance and that's shes "above that"

I was just reading up on Koimoi and BOI, but seems she may have one of the worst box office records

Aishwarya- Has done 25 hindi films (12 Hits and 13 Flops) - She has about 8 CLEAN Hits (this does not include her successful South projects or intertional proejcts. )

Do you think her flops matter? Would you consider her less successful than her rivals who seem to have more hits , but currently have no career? - like Rani or Priety?

I remember back in the days, Rani and Preity were more loved and appreciated (I'm sure their friendships with The Khans, Chopras, Kjo helped) but today Aishwarya is a more relevant star. People want to see her, her fans are dying for her to come back to the screen , shes still shows up in the Top 10 actresses list despite not having any releases in 4 years and she still topics popualrity polls...but with Rani/Pretiy it doesn't seem that way. Regardless that their comebacks have FAILED big time, there are is no buzz around them.

Ash (perhaps not because of her movies but in overall popularity) has outlived her rivals Rani and Preity...Do you consider Ash more successful despite her flops? Or do you think her failure at the box office should deny her, her iconic status?

The only reason Aish is popularly known worldwide is due to her pageant title. For Indians like us, her acting abilities matter. But for foreigners who know nothing about Bollywood have no one to compare her to, and hence are all praises for her. In other words for most Indians who know of her acting abilities and have seen her portray various roles, her flops matter. As an actress she is not at par with some of her contemporaries. But for foreigners they could give less about her acting abilities and more about her beauty etc.

I've said this many times. Rani and Preity's reign is over. As is Aishwarya, Madhuri, Kajol, Juhi, and Karisma ... All these actresses who made a huge impact in the 90s - early 2000s had their share of stardom. Today's audience has moved on to the likes of Kareena, Deepika, Katrina, Priyanka etc. In terms of acting Aishwarya is way behind the likes of Rani, Madhuri, Juhi, Karisma, Kajol. She has that international fame because of her title. And because of her international fame, she's ahead in the game then all the other actresses.

I believe people still want to see Madhuri, Juhi, Karsima. Even Rani and Preity. But more so Madhuri. They will rush to the theaters if they hear about a new Madhuri movie. Rani fans are dying to see her back on screen too! India-Forums in specific may not have as many Rani or Preity fans, but their fans are dying to see their favs back on screen just like Aishwarya fans are dying to see her back on screen. Aishwarya's worldwide popularity is why she makes the top 10 lists and stuff. That's the only reason.

I don't see Aish iconic at all. Madhuri would be iconic. She is an overall performer. Sridevi too. What has Aish done except gain international fame and given a few hits here and there? 20 years down the line, she'll just be remembered as the 'the most beautiful woman in the world'. But 20 years from now Madhuri, Juhi, Kajol, Rani, Karisma will go down as actresses that made a huge difference in the film industry in terms of acting. They have set a mark. Aish may have the glamour component of being an actress, but that's just about all. Many more actresses are miles and miles ahead of her in terms of outstanding star performer!

Doesn't matter. There is no Bollywood actress that has reached the success of Aishwaryia. She is known from east to west. Worldwide
She is pretty much the face of Indian cinema that introduced it to the world. She was one of the first Indians to be on the judging panel at Cannes.

However, her beauty did have a LOT to do with this more than her acting talent. She should thank her parents for passing on good genes.

However she is still a good actress.

Also she makes most of the new comers in Bollywood look like crap even though she is hitting 40 which is quite sad.

Why would they be remembered in 20 years, if some of them are already forgotten now 😆

Aishwarya Rai is,was and will always be remembered as the most beautiful woman in the world and nothing else. Doubt anyone cares about her movies/ads/philanthropy.

That's the thing. They aren't 'forgotten' per se. It's just that its a new generation and with the new generation the newer lot is what's in demand now. We all know that after actresses hit 30+, their career is close to over. Or after they marry. Whichever comes first.

Very very well said! Aish doesn't have any iconic performances to remember like Sridevi, Madhuri, Rani. And i TOTALLY agree she's mostly hyped and popular just because of her international fame, that's it! As active wise, she's way behind. Even the international critics said, she's just a beauty but not a good actress.

Agree, Madhuri, Sridevi, Rekha, Madhubala..they all will be iconic/remembered FOREVER! They are the ultimate, unforgettable, divas/legends of Hindi Cinema and will always remain to be.
Also Rani's performance in Black is something people will never forget! She was outstanding in that movie! But Aish unfortunately doesn't have anything iconic ..

🤣 🤣 What exactly is Iconic and star means? ..Appearing in media through PR articles?..If that is the case Shahid Kapoor is iconic and star as he has most loyal internet fanbase.

How exactly you can say she has star power and she is iconic when her solo films failed miserably. If people are really interested in her how on earth her films fail, aren't people go to theatres and watch her movies? 😲 😆

Coming to international fame, she was known for her appearance so as some other actors, Did her movies earn mulla there?..SRK Movies earned huge mulla there so he is more famous there..

Amitabh, Khans became stars because people are interested in their movies and made their films successful. That is called star power and iconic. 😛 Even Sridevi,MD films were more successful and brought audience to theatres on their own where they outshined their male contemporaries and their paycheck was higher than their male contemporaries and equal to Amitabh's paycheck in their haydays, that is called star power and iconic. I didn't see Ash getting paycheck similar to Khans like Sri and MD did.

Coming to Rani/Preity they peaked their careers in their early age, so it's quite common for them to fade away quite early where as Ash peaked late so it's quite common for her visibility for long time than other two, it doesn't make her star or iconic..

Actually your definition of star/iconic is quite hilarious.. 😆
