[SPOILERS]

Joy to the world, ye people, Dhoom: 3 has come. Abhishek Bachchan and his leather jacket continue to share the same number of expressions they did nine years ago, when the Dhoom franchise was launched. Uday Chopra hasn't possibly watched any of his own films still so is yet to retire. Aamir Khan's abdomen is not happy being his, it now wants to belong to Hrithik Roshan and hence tries to look like the latter's. Katrina Kaif's hotness remain unharmed, especially given that her face remains untouched by too many emotions.

And here is the cue to develop goosebumps from admiring Yashraj Films' gut.

They got these four together in what they call a film and asked you to pay up to Rs 900 to watch them in 3D IMAX. Okay, to be fair to them, they kept Katrina Kaif's wardrobe limited to sports bras, gymming shorts and leotards with so many gold chains that you'd think they are the swimsuit alter egos of Bappi Lahiri. But they also decided against requisitioning shirts for Aamir Khan, who by the way, seems to have stolen Tai Lung's expression from Kung Fu Panda. Well, through most parts of the film, he does look like this.

For those who haven't had the fortune of watching Kung Fu Panda, Aamir Khan in Dhoom:3 seems to have acquired all the expressions immortalised by Ajay-then-Devgan in Phool aur Kaante. And these are as delightful to watch as political posters in subways.

Now for the storyline of the film. But before that a caveat. To watch Dhoom:3, you have to get rid of the expectations that are raised in most average human beings suffering from an illness called common sense. Once that is out of the way, Dhoom:3 is rather easy to appetise. It's easy to believe that Abhishekh Bachchan, who looks as fit and flexible as a pillow, can do a somersault in mid-air, punch a man and get back to his seat on a bike. It's also easy to believe that Uday Chopra has great degrees of self respect, yet he agrees to appear in Dhoom films.

Back to the storyline. The film has Aamir Khan playing Saahir Khan, a magician, in a circus imaginatively named the Great Indian Circus. He is out to avenge his father's death. The said magician-joker is the son of a character played by Jackie Shroff who killed himself when he failed to pay back a bank loan and lost almost all he had.

The villains are a bank called the Western Bank of Chicago, headed by a man who we think was chosen by Yashraj because he was the most expressionless foreigner. Now, how did Saahir Khan's father acquire a house the size of the White while running an Indian Circus bang in the middle of Chicago is a question that should not be asked. Likewise, you shouldn't ask how after being orphaned and having his property confiscated, the son is able to return and avenge his father.

Given that Saahir with the said Roshan-like pecs wakes up in an all-glass apartment overlooking the sea, you either have to revise your understanding of the economic output of circuses, or just curse yourself to have not born in Bollywood.

Back to the story.

So Saahir not only breaks vaults, leading to money showering down from the bank on the road below like confetti, he also welds 'teri aisi ki taisi' on the said locker room and leaves a pretty big, weird looking clown mask behind like all the other Dhoom thieves. Since, the last time any police force in the US were confronted with such a mindboggling phenomenon was when Godzilla splashed out of the Atlantic Ocean, they call the Mumbai Police to help them catch the thief.

Mumbai Police, by the way, is ACP Jai Dixit and his lackey Ali, who make as much noise as two newsroom debates put together. The Chicago Police now entrust them to find the thief. Now go and quietly pray that the Chicago Police never have the misfortune of watching Dhoom:3 which might lead the US to outlaw Indians altogether.

In fact, that might not be a the only legal hazard Dhoom:3 might incur.

Consider the following exchange:

Cop: Tumhe kaise pata ki yeh chor Chup Chaap Charlie hai?

Thief: Kitne aise joker hai jo 'teri aisi ki taisi' bolte hai?

(After a while)

Thief (now feeling proud): Chup Chaap Charlie is a genius!

No, I didn't make this up. But had I been the makers of CID, I would have sued these guys for blatant copyright infringement!

Katrina Kaif in Dhoom:3 does what Ranbir Kapoor ads do to a viewer watching a Ramdev interview. Okay, I'm a little biased towards the Kapoor boy.

But yeah, Katrina decked mostly in absurd pieces of leather and other kinds of fabric most human beings don't recognise, does great service to Dhoom:3. Add to that, actually moves her limbs in a way that represents dance pretty convincingly.

That is when she is not relegated to a place in the film that is very similar to the one that a stapler has in my workstation. Come to think of it, really hard, that could be the best decision the Dhoom:3 director ever took!

^^ Raja Sen hates every movie that has a Khan in it. He trashed CE, he trashed 3 Idiots. He only likes Ranbir's movies. It is only in YJHD he praised Deepika over Ranbir. He also loved Lootera. It is impossible to make him happy. So, don't bother. All the movies he hates, goes on to become blockbusters. 😆

Movie review: Aamir Khan's Dhoom:3 is Dhoom to the power of three

In 1987, a masterpiece called Hard Ticket to Hawaii arrived in theatres. It chronicled two Playboy models sent undercover to Hawaii to bust a diamond racket and battle a mutant snake. Why am I telling you about Hard Ticket to Hawaii? Because like that film, Dhoom:3 is stupid, ridiculously over the top, unbelievably hammy, hilariously terrible cheesy, contrived and non-stop fun.

Back in 2008, director Vijay Krishna Acharya made Tashan which flopped because believe it or not, it was way ahead of its time. Had it released today, in the post Rohit Shetty-Prabhu Deva Rs 100-crore era, it would easily have made a few hundred crores. Acharya got a second chance with Dhoom:3 and with its humongous budget, he's really let his imagination go berserk.

Aamir Khan makes his entry by running vertically down a building, with currency notes flying everywhere and a background score that sounds like "We want chocolate we want chocolate".

Abhishek Bachchan makes his entry by breaking through a concrete wall in an auto rickshaw, then jumps over rooftops in the auto and then does Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible 2 bike stunts with the auto.

Katrina Kaif makes her entry by doing a Marky Mark-"Good Vibrations"-style, five-minute-long aerobics workout (and/or striptease) as an impromptu audition for The Great Indian Circus in Chicago.

Really, Dhoom:3 is Dhoom to the power of 3. It's 27 times as ridonkulous as the previous Dhoom films in every department. The longer it runs, the more preposterous it gets, and you can't help but admire it for what it is.

The action sequences were most certainly conceived during a drunken chor-police game that Acharya played with his toys one night. You see Khan driving a bike that turns into a boat that turns into a submarine that turns into a bike. You get Bachchan Jr tailing Aamir's bikeboatmarine while clinging on to the rope ladder of a helicopter. You get Uday Chopra wearing a Captain Jack Sparrow costume and chasing Khan on a BMW in random corridors.

And don't you dare think there is no substance to this movie. Prepare to have your mind blown - the villain in the film is not Khan, but banks. Yes, Dhoom:3 is a social commentary on the postmodern world being afflicted by the tyranny of bankers. It's deep stuff. In one scene, a wicked man looks at the camera grimly and tells a destitute common man, "We are bankers. We understand the world of money."

And since this is a Dhoom movie you get a ginormous buffet of bad acting, cheesy romance, dreadful songs and plot holes so big you could drive Van Damme's Volvo trucks through them. It's not fair to take pot shots at Chopra because he's the only genuine element in the film - all of his jokes are self-referential. Bachchan Jr doesn't do much more than grimace a couple of times and walk around extremely determined. With her back perpetually arched, midriff perpetually bare and dialogue perpetually corny, Katrina comes off like a parody of an action movie heroine.

But Dhoom:3 will be remembered for being the point where Khan gleefully ignored all of the accolades he's ever received for being a good actor. He clearly worked extremely hard on his muscles, but every dialogue he utters magically produces ham hocks around the screen. In the film he's either

a) Too serious, and hence unintentionally funny or

b) Completely barmy, and hence unintentionally funny.

Khan is a good dramatic actor and a great comedic actor, but is not a commercial action hero. Someone needed to tell him to lighten up a bit. This is a Dhoom movie after all.

You may have predicted all of the above things, but nothing will prepare you for the barn burning twist' just before the interval. You can see it coming, but you desperately wish and pray for that to not be the case. But it does come, and you're left groaning in defeat, wrapping your face with as many palms as you can find. It's the kind of stuff you'd see in Hard Ticket to Hawaii and the twelve other films by the director Andy Sidaris, all twelve of which are available in a single DVD pack with your neighbourhood pirate.

No matter who says what, #Dhoom3 is still gonna make heaps at the Box office. So what's the point of debating whether its good or bad?

As comfortable in serious, deep movies, as he is in fun action movies. I just want to see those people who stated how he is being overshadowed by the "heroine" in the trailer. 😆 He takes the horrible Dhoom series to a whole new level. Yes, there are a lot of hints of Hollywood movies, but it still manages to entertain and engage your attention because of one man, and one man only, Mister Amir Khan. Also, didn't think much of the story itself, but the execution is effective.

Waiting for ur review.. Expected Aamir to deliver this, and he usually shuts ppl with his performance..

Story: Chicago is hit by a mysterious thief targeting one bank - can Mumbai cop Jai Dixit catch the shadowy chor?

Review: Straight up, Dhoom 3 makes you laugh, gasp - even sniffle. The most emotional of the Dhoom series yet, this is Aamir Khan's show all the way. As revengeful circus star Sahir, whose father Iqbal (Shroff) dies after losing his beloved Great Indian Circus to a stony-hearted Chicago bank, Khan is terrific. The Dhoom series usually showcases brawn on bikes but in this one, mind meets machinery, Khan's brain almost visibly ticking behind his eyes, calculating every second before he vrroooms off on a bike - across a wire stretched high between buildings, beneath a mega-truck, even underwater.

Chicago forms a super backdrop for Sahir's stunts, the grainy stone of its buildings the perfect texture against which those bikes purr past with velveteen growls. Scrawling 'Teri aisi ki taisi' on its vaults and scattering the bank's money across Chicago's skies, Sahir makes the local police look as intelligent as turkeys. But things change when Mumbai cop ACP Jai Dixit (Bachchan), with bike-and-babe-mad subordinate Ali (Chopra), arrive and figure out why - and how - Sahir is breaking the bank.

Dhoom 3 rests on Khan's magnetism, his actor's eyes and jaw-line, his abs playing a part too. But the film is powered by its action. With WOL (whistle-out-loud) moments, this is super-slick and on an extravagant scale, using Chicago's skyscrapers like sexy statues arching into the sky. Alongside,Dhoom 3 features the franchise's tongue-in-cheek cheekiness, Ali, fida over blonde policewoman Victoria (as in 'secret'), Jai telling him to focus not on Kamasutra but kaam. As circus star Alia, Kaif provides soft romance, her fitness and innate grace redefining sexiness, making even potentially risque sequences - she lands her job following a speedy striptease - look delicately sensuous. Alia's charming beauty stops our protagonist in his tracks - but for how long?

Clocking in at nearly three hours, Dhoom 3 is slightly extensive. But it holds advantages, the first, that sizzling Dhoom tune, all leather, boots and electric guitars, which straightens sagging scenes. The second - sharp performances by Khan, Bachchan (an underrated actor, whose ability to drawl languid lines with intense looks stands out) and Chopra, who sprinkles lightness and fun. And the third - Dhoom 3's story with a twist wrapped around it, like the ribbon around a Christmas gift. Merrily unwrap - flying out of the Great Indian Circus, Dhoom 3 is great fun.
