What's with the outrage? Is the 1975 movie going to be erased from existence with the new one? It will still be there for us to enjoy regardless of whether the new one is good or not.

I agree with this part.

Besides, the 'original' was itself a remake of a Bangla movie Chhadmabeshi (starring Uttam and Madhabi) which was based on a short story - which was also adapted earlier in the 1940s if I'm not mistaken. The story has a history of adaptations and remakes. Let the tradition continue. Who knows maybe the new guys will contribute something good. Otherwise we still have the old versions to enjoy.

BTW, I wonder if they will make the Jijaji a younger guy or make him the father instead.

Also, I hope they correct what I see as the one flaw in the 'original': the late introduction of Amitabh and Jaya's plot and the problem of balancing that with the main story. Basically 70% of the film is already over when Big B suddenly comes back into the picture and Dharmendra-Sharmila fade into the background (esp Sharmila). That always seemed a little odd, a little out of balance to me. Perhaps if that track is introduced earlier and the main couple are still kept around, the script would be better structured.

I dont mind this remake as much as CB and BB simply because of the cast and director. Paresh Rawal will obviously play the senior guy.

Not every film can be remade as per whims and fancies. Certain films belong to certain period and they should be left there to be enjoyed. How can a girl of today's time not know how a famous professor(of her discipline and whom she adores) looks like? How come in this era, a man obsess over a shuddh hindi speaking chauffeur be just as hilarious as in the orginal? It was valid in the 70's/80's because of the advent of westernization. When we are pretty much modernized now, how can one be scandalized by a person not speaking his regional language well? And the whole setting and vibe of the film, is just not for today's times. And no one can match up Hrishikesh Mukherjee's situational humour in a mile.

They might 'tweak' it. But the the BASE of this whole thing is gone then. I'm not against remakes but you should have the SENSE of what you are picking to remake.
