Khamoshi was a SLB version of Beyond Silence, a German movie.

I haven't read NH though, only LNB.

LNB was a fiction with added masala, but NH was a memoir where Maitreyi Devi denied most of the intimate scenes Mircea depicted. Mircea ended his novel after leaving Maitreyi's house. Maitreyi ended her memoir after their last meeting.

BTW, Maitreyi met Mircea when both were buddha-buddhi.

Khamoshi's theatrical release was actually a few months before the German movie was released. Dunno if it showed up in festivals earlier or maybe SLB and Caroline had a drunken encounter where they unknowingly exchanged ideas and ended up making similar movies. 😆

I knew it was similar to Woh Saat

on real life.

It is not surprising though. How
many desi men and women have affairs, fall in love, but give up everything to
marry per their parent's wishes. The only thing is very few are honest with
their spouses and not many spouses will let go like that.

In the case of that novel it was far more complex than just parental discontent. Set in the 19th century, it was taboo to marry a foreigner/ a different religionist. Eliad was both. Do read La Nuit Bengali if you can get your hands on it; and a translated version of No Honyote if there's any. It's extremely heart-wrenching, the latter especially.

I don't know. 😆 Never watched Beyond Silence. Read somewhere that SLB picked his plot from Beyond Silence. May be Caroline & SLB picked the stories of their movies from the same source (Could be a short film, a play, or a book) 😕

Yeah know that. But I don't think MD was speaking the truth. She obviously had to deny them, that was the 20th century and she'd have had to face a huge societal backlash if she hadn't. Whereas ME had no reason to 'spice it up' if he did really love her.

Speaking of inspirations. Has anyone noticed how A Walk to Remember (2002) based on the same name book (1999) is the same story as Ankhiyon Ke Jharoke Se (1978)?

That's what I thought too. She's not from an era where this could be digested easily. Even now women tend to downplay or deny their pre-marital relationships.

Could be.

BTW, I hated that Guru-Shishya bit... Maitreyi hosting/nursing Rabindranath Tagore... Maitreyi washing Tagore's kachchha (Exaggeration) yadda yadda yadda *yawns* 🥱
