It's mentioned in LNB that he(Mircea) was jealous of Tagore, and was relieved when MD said that their relationship was strictly spiritual. 😆
She later had a thing with Tagore as well.

Speaking of inspirations. Has anyone noticed how A Walk to Remember (2002) based on the same name book (1999) is the same story as Ankhiyon Ke Jharoke Se (1978)?

Ankhiyon Ke Jharoke Se was based on Erich Segal's Love Story.

Well the book and the movie differs a lot, SLB just took some points.

and I don't know about real life, but in the movel maitreyi does get to meet Mirchae once more, though after 40 yrs when she already has got grandkids.

Could be.

BTW, I hated that Guru-Shishya bit... Maitreyi hosting/nursing Rabindranath Tagore... Maitreyi washing Tagore's kachchha (Exaggeration) yadda yadda yadda *yawns* 🥱

maitreyi tried to build the whole tagore and muse thingi, I think coz she was a bit jealous of the Him and Lady ranu getting his affections and him creating characters in Rajarshi drama.

Krystal: i read both the books, MD and la Nuit and I think Mirchae was exaggerating a bit too. I read bengali translation so I can assume the racier parts were toned down but even then I doubt MD would be going to his room every night to make love, But I do not deny it happening once or twice.

^^Yeah, a trifle exaggeration might be there, but it did happen, about that there is no doubt. People can hardly build up tales of physical intimacy out of thin fantasy.

HDDCS is a murder of a classic.
it is a great movie but SLB's ham fest ruined the book.

In the year 1988 a movie was made by a french director based on the novel "La Nuit Bengali" starring Supriya Pathak as Maitreyi and Hugh Grant as Mircea. It also starred Soumitra Chaterjee and Shabana Azmi. But the movie never released in India as it contained some controversial scene regarding Hinduism and some heavy intimate scenes.

Then I think it should be re-released now.
