I sense a bashing thread here but I'll post my opinion anyway. It was a beautiful film, period. Everything about it was heartwarming and pure. I think the strength of the film lies in it's core message - you really don't need too much to be happy, which it delivers beautifully. Of course the lifted scenes have now become something of an excuse to write off the whole film but I love it despite all of that.

That's true but I think it's enough for people to say there were better bollywood films in 2012

The only thing special about the movie was sadly, Priyanka's acting. Ranbir's acting was lifted of all the charlie Chaplin/ silent era movies. So for me, Ranbir's acting didnt have any originality and was simply an indication of him being talented. Illeana's role could have been done by any decent actress.

As engaging and heartwarming it was, the movie is quite simply overrated. It stands out glaringly in the sea of typical masala movies but pitch in on an international level or even to some of the regional films it fails. Which is also one of the reasons it failed to get an Oscar nod.
