Just forget about what the budget is, who charged how much and all that.
Special 26 First Weekend Business Monday 11th February 2013 10.30 IST | |
Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network Special 26 had a decent weekend of 23 crore nett approx and showed excellent growth over the weekend with business on Sunday going to around 9.50 crore nett but still the weekend is just about decent due to the low starting point. The trend over the weekend means its almost certain the film will hold well on Monday but the film has a lot of work to do over the next couple of weeks if it is to come out a major winner. The film has done best in North and Mysore with business in West Bengal and Bihar being lower comparatively. The producers will recover the 50 crore investment as the film has fetched around 35 crore from sale of the territory rights across India but that low starting point has meant that distributors outside a couple of circuits will struggle. |

Last Friday, the box office counters were graced by not one but two movies, Remo D'Souza's ABCD – AnyBody Can Dance and Neeraj Pandey's Special 26. Both releases captivated the audience, and, after a promising first day, both films swept up impressive collections at the weekend.
Special 26 took the lead and earned approximately Rs 25 crore NBOC. The film surpassed ABCD, which wrapped its three-day weekend at over Rs 15 crore. With a slight drop in collections today, distributors believe both releases will clock great numbers at the end of their first week.
In Mumbai, Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines says, "Both films enjoyed a decent weekend. ABCDearned Rs 17 crore all-India and Special 26 Rs 24 crore. In Mumbai, ABCD and Special 26 collected Rs 7 crore and Rs 9-10 crore respectively. Akshay Kumar has started this year on a wonderful note, after a superlative 2012."
In Delhi-UP, Brijesh Tandon of H K Tandon and Company adds, "ABCD earned Rs 2.25 crore in Delhi UP, whereas Special 26 reeled in Rs 5.4 crore during the three-day weekend. Both films are doing well and will enjoy an easy run in the week ahead."
In East Punjab, Surendra Saluja of Lakhsya Movies adds, "Special 26 and ABCD have both done well.Special 26 took the lead and collected Rs 1.75 crore while ABCD earned Rs 1 crore at the weekend."
In Rajasthan, Gaurav Gaur of O'Real Imagination avers, "ABCD collected Rs 61 lakh and Special 26collected double that and wrapped its weekend at Rs 1.28 crore. Both films have generated encouraging word-of-mouth publicity but its Special 26 is marching ahead in leaps and bounds."
In CP, Sarang Chandak of Shri Rang Films concludes, "Special 26 and ABCD were allotted an equal number of screens in CP Berar and both releases totted up equal numbers here – Special 26 Rs 1.07 crore and ABCD Rs 1.08 crore. Jahan ek taraf Akshay Kumar hai, toh dusri taraf dance 3D hai. The audience is equally divided this week."
