Family values, many believe, act as illusion poppers. Take this heroine, whose ascent from a modest Malad dwelling to an expansive haven in Andheri has been enviable; 'fed up' of taking early morning domestic flights, she once asked her father to arrange a chartered plane. "Don't forget where we come from," was her father's stiff reproach.

Who is the actress?

Interesting article. I like how Open magazine mostly doesn't mince its words and never try to create aura around a star. They rather expose a star in all his human weaknesses and puncture the myth around them.

I think stars do change. Aamir is no longer as chilled out as he used to be in 90s. Especially after Lagaan he looks so self conscious in his interviews and public appearances! Salman's face also lost the innocence it used to have. He is every inch a star and he knows it. SRK ceased to seem relatable ever since he became a brand and started positioning himself as a global icon. Give me his early-mid 90s persona anyday over what he is now!

All stars seem to be forever trying to assert their status in face of public. Bachchans and Kapoors forever try to flaunt the power of their lineage. No one ever looked humane or normal.

All of them are forever trying to convince us of their image - as an intellectual star or as a global star.

Rise of 24/7 news channels and internet only worsened it I guess. Nowadays info about their behaviour (even at private parties) travels faster than light! There's so much scrutiny and now even we common fans keep dissecting their actions on forums like these, so little wonder that stars try to put an "act" or project an image all the time.

It was sad reading about Anushka. I had hoped her to be like Kajol and be bindaas about herself as she was. But it's sad she is desperately trying to emulate others and be what she's not.

I feel we should just watch movies and leave it there. Reading about actual eccentricities of stars is always sad and makes you wonder why're you enamoured by these people!
