Heroine- MY REVIEW
Heroine as we all know revolves around the protagonist Mahi
Arora played by kareena kapoor. The story takes us along her journey while also
exploring the hidden secrets of bollywood film industry.
Like every movie heroine has its shares of plusses and
negatives but unfortunately in this movie the negatives far outnumber the
positives
<font size="2">NEGATIVES</font>
- <font size="3">Extremely
weak characterization</font>
Heroine as the title suggests is the story of heroine and
one expects, if not others, at least her role to be well defined and well
written. Unfortunately here that is not the case. The character of Mahi is so
vague that till the end one does not know who Mahi is, it generates no emotions
from you and her pain does not make you cry the way you might have while
watching Meghna in Fashion where one connects with her emotions as he knows who
she is as her journey (from nobody to top to low) has been shown but here it
fails to generate any reaction from you as till the last minute you don't know
about Mahi.
- <font size="3">
Half
baked relations shown in the movie</font>
Baring Mahi's relation with her co-star and boyfriend (Arjun
Rampal) or the cricketer (Randeep) Her relations with most of the other people
shown in the movie is simply flat.
SPOILER
Her relation with Shahana is half baked, the lesbian portion
was not dealt well. Either they elaborated it further or did not put it at all.
They way they handled it seemed unneeded and immature.
Her relation with Helan needed a lot more depth as towards
the end its her death which makes mahi break down but do you feel the pain
there? Simply NO! The relation was not
shown with the depth that it makes you feel mahi's pain.

<font size="3">Extremely
weak screen play and direction</font>
Like seriously! What was Madhur thinking? Was he too
pressurized with the similarity with Fashion thing that he decided to not
direct this one at all, in fact throw random scenes and attach them together to
make a movie. He needed to take us along mahi's journey so that her pain can
extract some reaction from us. He did not show us anything who Mahi is, where
she came from etc and that leaves us blank and does not generate any reactions
from us.

<font size="3">Low on
shock value and slow paced</font>
There is nothing new or shocking in Heroine, we know it all.
The slow pace further ruins things for it
-
<font size="3">Pathetic
Climax</font>
First of all the sex tape scene does not move you as you
simply don't know what sort of person Mahi is. Following that was the portion
of Helan's death abruptly put in which again does not move you as the relation
between her and Helen was half baked. Finally after that we see the last scene
of the movie which is rather hilarious. Whatever impact the movie has made on
you (if any) even gets vanished from the terrible climax.

<font size="3">Music and
misplaced/ unneeded songs</font>
The music was not the saving grace of this movie either.
Baring the track "khawaheshien" which is good to listen and comes in the movie
at the right time, the rest of the tracks are plain ordinary. Main heroine ho
was misplaced, the timings were wrong were as Halkat jawani was simply not needed
to slow the pace of an already slow movie
-
<font size="3">Weak
supporting cast</font>
First of all they lacked freshness (most of them) as they
have been repeated in Bhandarkar's movies lots of times. Most of them baring
Shahana, Divya and Randeep performed poorly which will be discussed in detail
under the performances section
- <font size="3">
Biased,
exaggerated and manipulative</font>
Heroine has all these. It is biased with the way it
portrayed the star wives, gay designers etc. It is also exaggerated as all the
problems in the world are faced by Mahi which comes across as unreal at times.
It is highly manipulative, tries too hard to generate reactions from you or
make you cry and feel the pain of Mahi with her crying in every other scene and
the numerous problems she has including the Bipolar diseases just to make you
feel more sympathy for her
POSITIVES

<font size="3">Performances</font>
Had it not been for some actors in this movie, it was a
complete disaster. This movie is only saved by some of the terrific actors who
starred in it.
As already discussed above the direction is majorly flawed
so will not get into that again, now coming to the performances
<font size="3">Shahana (3.5/5)</font>
Her role was small but she delivers. Her eyes, her
expressions were beautiful
<font size="3">Arjun Rampal (2/5)</font>
One of the actors who rehearses, deliver lines and goes. He
was wooden in many scenes and seemed highly disinterested from start to end.
<font size="3">Randeep Hooda (3.5/5)</font>
A performer with an ease, he was so comfortable throughout
and he did pretty well more over he looked natural and not rehearsed at all.
<font size="3">Divya Dutta (3.75/5)</font>
She nailed it, was brilliant in her act
<font size="3">Helen (3.5/5)</font>
Helen always the dancer, never the actor surprises us with
the way she pulls this one off. The scene where she did not have a vanity van
and is waiting outside, her expressions were amazing.
Others in supporting cast did not have much to do
Now coming to the heroine of Heroine
<font size="3">Kareena Kapoor (4.75/5)</font>
There are actors who don't know how to act and they cannot
deliver even if they work in well directed movies, there are also those who
deliver when the director works on them and does his job well but there are
very few who play their role exceptionally well despite the direction,
screenplay and every other thing going majorly flawed and kareena does fall in
that category
She is exceptionally good, a perfect adjective runs short of
your mind to describe her performance in this movie, she is THAT good!
Her expressions, her eyes, her dialogue delivery, way of
walking and everything else tell about Mahi- something which the director
couldn't do- she does it with her act.
Despite the character being so vague kareena with her
performance makes you feel for Mahi. Watch the scene when she comes to know
that the movie has been shelved, the way she talks to the producer and how she
cries, phenomenal! Also the portion towards the end when she leaks her sex tape,
the expressions tell about all the numerous feelings going inside her- anxiety,
stress, curiosity, guilt- everything she does with those eyes of hers which is
not a piece of cake especially when the direction is so weak.
Heroine rests of kareena's brilliant performance, take her
away from it or replace her with anyone else, it is a total disaster.
Overall, heroine is a weak movie. The slow pace, weak
screenplay and direction makes you totally disinterested in the going on- one
should watch it only and only for Kareena Kapoor, it is her show all the way
and she is the only thing about heroine which does not disappoint you!
<font size="3">OVERALL ' 2.5/5 (One extra for kareena!)</font>
