ufff and Madhur made Mahi going through all this

seems like he took all the events , wrote and just put mahi into those

instead he cld have write a proper Story of Mahi a story with proper Flow , not necessary each and everything shld happen to Mahi

Heroine performs well in overseas market

Kareena Kapoor-starrer Heroine is working wonders in the overseas market.

The Madhur Bhandarkar movie, based on the ups and downs in the life of an actress, was reportedly made at a budget of Rs. 20 crore.

It released in 42 screens in the Middle East Thursday, and has earned $350,000, with 19 screens still to report the numbers.

It registered Rs.7.5 crore earnings in India, in Britain, it made $78,402 from 41 screens, while in the US, Heroine minted $140,000 (it released in 112 screens, and six screens are yet to report the numbers.

Heroine has seen a phenomenal opening in all major international markets. This was a highly anticipated movie and our marketing push has helped pull in massive crowds to theatres. No other female lead has seen such a response in recent years," Amrita Pandey, executive director, Syndication, International Distribution - Studios, Disney UTV, said in a statement. Heroine also features Arjun Rampal and Randeep Hooda in key roles. The movie had a strong buzz around it, and it was heavily promoted across all quarters.

I shall post my review again so that DG can read it.I wrote such a long review only for her.😆

---

Going to be a long review.😳

So finally watched the film after all the hype, controversies and the negative reviews of the film.Like I mentioned before, I really enjoyed the film. Generally, I agree with what some critics write for a particular film but here I guess, I actually liked things that the critics disliked.😆One of the reasons might be I had ZERO expectations from the movie, right from the beginning. This is one film where I disliked everything before the release-posters,promos,songs and the trailer.

The first thing which surprised me was that the film was projected for the masses from the trailer. The inclusion of Halkat jawaani, the posters everything suggested that Madhur is trying to grab the attention of the single screen audience. But I felt nothing of that sort during the film.I read a review on TOI saying its Kareena's Dirty Picture and several other articles suggesting she had a lot of cleavage show.Really?😕The film had only one sex scene and Halkat Jawaani/ Main heroine hoon song where she wears revealing clothes.Except for that, nothing that would be considered adult rated stuff except for one or two gaalis. So I really don't know how did the reviewer say Heroine is Kareena's Dirty Picture.

The film had a very weak and basic story, i agree. In simple uncomplicated words, the film was basically on the downfall of a well established Heroine. But unlike many others, I actually didn't find the screenplay THAT boring or tacky to be honest.Yes, there were flaws but still it wasn't as if it is not worth watching.Madhur failed with the small non linear structure in the beginning, wish it was neat but on the whole it wasn't that bad, atleast for me.There are many things that I liked in the movie. I read in many reviews that it seems like Madhur has taken gossips from different sources and put together as a film, they were right to an extent but is there any harm?We all post here on the Bollywood forum 24*7 so we know about terms like PR, publicity, what's happening behind the actor's closed doors(thanks to Masand ji).But think about people for whom Bollywood means going to the theatre every Friday to catch a movie. They won't keep any updates about what is an actor's PR doing, etc. So even if its superficial and fictitious, its good to see a visual representation of the controversies and incidents than just reading it in the newspaper and that's where I feel the film grabbed my attention. I have been reading about several Bollywood gossips in the forum but the film gave me a chance to see it than read it.

Other moments that I liked in the movie were(Following paragraph contains some petty spoilers) scenes like the one where a commercial actress suddenly doing a realistic cinema just to please the critics(Was Shahana's character modeled after Konkona? ).Once again, unlike the critics, I enjoyed the part with the making of Tarannum Jaan. Also the scene that highlighted about the upcoming trends in Bollywood through Shagufta(helen's character), Divya Dutta and Kareena's secretary. How fame and competition has led to rift between every actor, how these days PR weighs more than your secretary(I personally loved the scene between Kareena and her secretary, it was more about the secretary being like a father or guide to Mahi than just keeping a record of her dates and how she gives more importance to her PR agent than him),the way Aryan treats Mahi and how mahi treats Angad the same way and the last part where inspite of the success of the film, Mahi is completely heartbroken and pleads to the media to leave her alone in the car.It reminded me of a quote which was something like an actor works all his life to become famous and as soon as he finds fame, he puts on glasses so that no one identifies him. The scene was kinda ironic and I thought it was a good climax to the movie untill...the end, which ruined the continuity of the scene completely. It was very lame.Madhur should have ended the movie right when she is in the car trying to run away from the media.(Spoiler over)

Last bit about the performances, the supporting cast was okayish, not that great.Divya Dutta and Shahana were good in their minor roles whereas both Arjun Rampal and Randeep Hooda were 🤢(Sorry Pullo, don't throw chappals at me😆).the only thing that i agree wit the critics review is, Kareena was the BEST part of the movie. She was awesome!👏Though she overdid a few scenes, but on the whole, a FAB performance. But is it award worthy enough?is it her best performance till date? IMO,No.She has done far better work in JWM and Omkara plus I loved her acting in Ek Main aur Ekk Tu.But even if she doesn't win awards for the role, not a big deal because she proved her calibre in a serious role after a long time. And I would rather prefer films like Heroine making decent business and Kareena being happy and doing such films than being a part of SRK/Salman's crapfest as a showpiece.

Would rate the movie 3/5 :)

Guess I just watched it from a completely different angle from what the others did and hence a positive review amongst the negative reviews given by the critics.

Sorry for the typos in the thread.

posting my review again like others
OK ...SAW THE MOVIE...

My Review...

As I Expected what Its going to be - SCANDALOUS

heroine is that product which comes as an itching part... when our arms, legs, hair etc a body part itches, we try to itch it to get some relief...but when it doesn't work out...we sometimes itch to an extreme level and hurt ourselves...HEROINE is that kind of a Movie. Madhur has an itch to exploit, expoit and over exploit..this time he just couldn't take it and he itched so much that he hurt himself...OUCH !!

let's go through the film.
The film hardly has a story to tell. As I mentioned earlier. Its all part of scandals. I am hundred percent sure that Madhur himself knows that half of these things might not necessarily happen. i mean i don't deny that a part doesn't exist but like I said MAdhur had an itch to show every dirty scandal.

the movie reminds me of an old show ' Jaane kahan mera jigar gaya ji when it came on Sony when it was launched in 1995. That show was a perfect take on bollywood. even in the year 1995, it was much bolder, controlled quite scandalous as well but the way it was portrayed with simplicity won the hearts over. too bad INDIAN shows never come out on DVD otherwise i would get the first copy of that show.

The film starts with a promise...it makes you wonder what's up next...infact i was actually very happy by the way the movie opened...but whatever happened after that was a complete letdown.

Supporting actors are good - Govind Namdeo as a shy manager of kareena was good. Ranvir Shorey even though i didn't like his track was compatible. there are so many actors and their unnecessary characters. sanjay suri and sameer soni has been always likeable here they disappoint a lot. Gay Designers were complete stereotypes. comeon even Manish malhotra doesn't act like that. Rohit Bal is also there in the industry yet her mannerisms seems fine...but again like i said madhur already knows this but he wanted to sensationalize.

Shahana Goswami and Divya Dutta both are Good I don't understand why some reviews are trashing them. Shahana lightens up the screen but the lesbian part killed it. and her cameo seems wasted. Divya is hell good. PR people are like that and she is completely into it. she is as good as Kittu Gidwani in Fashion. she or shahana might win some awards. Helen's part was touchy makes u realize heroines are just part of a prop in the industry. but her funeral scene seemed like a copy from page 3. MB has gone nuts.

Randeep Hooda looks Sexy but couldn't leave an impact. Arjun Rampal should retire. He is a dry nut.

now coming to the main part...KAREENA KAPOOR is a scene stealer no doubt on that...considering the BAKWAAS she did before the release abt considering some Devi of Bollywood it left me in bad taste. but here she performed amazingly. She lived the character of mahi arora. yes she was also over the top in some scenes but considering the character it was supposed to be like that. she might win awards definitely hope she keeps her mouth 'shut' before receiving them lol.

i agree with one more member that the trailer was much more better but the film turned out to be something else.

I was considering this film to be much worse...with 0 expectations..i actually enjoyed the film.

3.5/5 from my side.. definitely worth a watch.

Nitu and S.B. awesome review

S.B. I totally agreed on your take of the film...

Some of the scenes in the film are stupid... but there were also some scenes that I felt were realistic.. and could happen to an actress ... how Mahi had to start in a low budget film with not so famous director because she couldn't get any film offers... kind of thought that reminded me of bebo's career.. a lot of ppl were saying she did chameli because after her multiple flops no one wanted to work with her. And it's weird because the low budget film Mahi does is a role of a prostitute.. wonder if Madhur was inspired by bebo's career there

I do thing if Madhur took the time and didn't rush things... this film could have been much better... because there were a lot of things that left me confused

Someone asked nothing happens at the scene where Mahi goes to the cops... I think she was having a mental breakdown there... like a cry for help... but she didn't know what to say... because a cop can't help her with her problems... she needed her doctor there

another thing that I was confused about... the award show scenes... one actress refuses to perform if she doesn't receive an award... did they ask Mahi to step in at the last min?
