Okey, i watched the movie today. What i can say is the movie was something different and i adore how Ranbir managed to look good despite various change of looks in the movie. He was really good and smooth in transition from an innocent person to an angry young man. Nargis was refreshing and some said she could not act much but no harm to Katrina fans, i think Nargis performed better than how Katrina did in her first film. The songs were good but i felt the movie was overloaded with so many songs instead of concentrating on the main story. It was a bit slow or boring for me at places and i found it better than Mausam. I felt every scene that may look boring to me actually helps in the storyline and not simply forced in. Ranbir really rocked in every scene and he is truly the Rockstar and AR Rahman's music was a backbone to the movie. May not appeal to everyone but its a good attempt 👏

I didn't see the movie yet, but read two reviews by members on BollyWHAT and they both seem to agree that while it was good and promising in the first half, it drastically declined during the second half.

My short review

rockstar 1st half gud but fails in 2nd half very slow placed nd lenghty bad second half..music is very gud sadda haq,nadan parinday,tum ho rocks.editing is very bad..Ranbir performance is brilliant.nargis cant act at all disappoints.worst movie of imtiaz ali..

as my friends and i left the movie hall after a tedious 3 hours, all we could ask was: WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE MOVIE?!?!?!

this film might be the reason why the concept of a "rockstar" will never materialize into a reality in India. according to imtiaz, "angst" is the most crucial component for a musician to literally "rock". in the film, this search for "angst" germinates in the most bizarre idea: heartbreak and the ensuing pain will convert into "angst" and will thus provide the aspiring rocker the ability to "rock". i am still reeling, trying to get around this idea.

is it even a love story? i mean the boy needs the girl to break his heart. the girl recognizes the simpleton in the boy and makes him her willing accomplice in unleasing "gandh" onto the streets of delhi until her marriage in two months. 😕 all i could discern was this fact: both the male and female leads are highly sexed creatures. the girl actually brushes apart the idea of rape. in a disturbing convo, after they have watched a junglee jawani in a seedy hall, the boy is relieved that the girl managed to pass off as a male otherwise she would have been raped. the girl answers "then it would have been junglee jawaani part 2"! 😕😕😕

after the boy's overnight metamorphosis into jordan, all i could make sense of was the fact that he is always looking for opportunities to kiss the married girl! 😕 he is always asking for one more hug or one more kiss! 😕

i am not going to dwell on the terminal illness that the girl gets infected with. was the illness a necessary prop to invest an epic feel to this non love story?

the anger management issues are overexaggerated and settle into a pattern. jordan is going somewhere. he suddenly disappears. his manager finds him. his fans spot him and act crazy. the police come. jordan gets all hot and heavy with 4 -5 policemen. the pattern ends with jordan in jail or signing bail papers.

the puking scene is obviously referencing jimi hendrix, the playing guitar in the bathtub is kurt cobain. imtiaz wants to remind us through these bit scenes that jordan is very much a "rockstar".

the new female actor is all lips. i could not look beyond her lips. they fascinated me, the various contortions of the human lips that she achieves is surely deserving of a place in Ripley's Believe It or Not!

ranbir is good. his clothes post the metamorphosis are cool. however he is not enough to lift this film from the doldrums it is doomed to.

shammiji is wasted in the movie. he is shown too less. but maybe he was under duress because of ill health.

except for sadda haq and the sufi song, the music is ordinary by A.R Rahman's standards. the tingalinga song is suspiciously reminiscent of ringa ringa from slumdog. A.R. Rahman has not been able to deliver an all encompassing music score since Delhi 6.

the quote from Rumi at the end of the film is laughable. it is an attempt to make a hollow premise grand but it fails miserably.

all in all, a big thumbs down from me!👎🏼

2nd half of the movie is completely drag and only good thing about is
Ranbeer's acting. He has done superb job.

I could not believe that same director has mad class movie like Jab we met and Love aaj kal..

There is no story at all in the movie

I hope what u have said comes true but 20 crore from week 2 seems way too high ...with the mixed WOM and all ...even if the film recovers its cost(which i am sure it will)..tht will be enough

I just read smartie's review and luminos3's review and it was so interesting to read what both had written and how diverse both of them were in their views on the movie.
