😳I saw it..jsut then at my uni theatre...Herz my review...SPOILERS AHEAD SO READ AT UR OWN RISK

Okay...The first thing tht came to my mind after the movie finished is its totally justified why the film would have polarizing reactions...its NOT everyones cup of tea...if u connect to it,u will LOVE it...if u dunt, u will be hugely bored and dissapointed. Therz no right or wrong really...just depends on a person's taste and how well they connect to the filmmakers vision...

Having said tht, I would like to add that im one of the people who LOVED it. It is a very flawed film no doubt. The pace is very slow...u have to get used to it. Therz lots of creative W*F liberties taken so u have to adjust to those too...Nargis is not exactly an easy watch onscreen (Acting wise) so thts a drawback too...Therz lots of reasons to not like the film...

But for me, the pros outweigh the cons. Why? because its a film with an incredible amount of heart, soul and honesty and tht touched me immensely as a movie goer...The sincerity and passion invested by imtiaz and ranbir makes the movie such an experience.

Imtiaz's writing is not at his best...he does falter lots of times with the screenplay, the story and stuff...But his dialogues are topnotch...The first 40 minutes (until nargis gets married) are the best part of the movie...witty,funny,humorous, innocent and completely capturing the local delhi flavour...There are a few other gems of dialogue sprinkled throughout the rest of the movie, mainly the conversations between ranbir and nargiz...And let me put it this way: No one makes love stories like Imtiaz...coz no one can bring out the feel like he does...

Coming to them, Heer and JJ's relationship is very complicated. Not many would digest it. I didnt for most part. Like the prague episodes...a married woman and a man having a lustful affair is not something tht ppl feel is "right" and hence shown to be done by the protagnists. But now tht i think abt it, tht part of their romance is supposed to be disturbing. That is wht foreshadows their "doomed romance"...U want them to be together, but then again, u dunt coz they are not doing the right thing...and thts how imtiaz creates the conflict...by making two very flawed protagnists, who do the wrong things,mess up their lives, make the wrong decisions etc but somehow still making u root for them and keeping u in two minds abt their relationship being "right" or "wrong"...

Lots of ppl had trouble with the non-linear narrative..and i understand why it might put some ppl off, but it didnt put me off..i thought it was seamless...Music,i dunt need to elaborate on. Each song takes the narrative forward and AR reheman is a friggin genius.Period. Sadda haq brought the house down...

Now the performances...nargiz wasnt very good..her dubbing was pathetic(the same woman who dubbed for kat in her first few films and deepika for OSO ...uggh hate tht voice)...some of her scenes and expressions were nice, but mostly, she was underwhelming...but her chemistry with ranbir was nice and somewhat makes up for her bad acting...

Shammi kapoor has like 3 scenes and he was as usual, a complete rockstar...Just made me realise what a tragedy it has been for bollywood to lose and actor like him...His jugalbandi with RK (shenai vs guitar) was superb...

Ranbir kapoor : u know what, words seriously fail me...It takes a phenomenal actor to bring out all the layers and textures of JJ/Janardhan/Jordan etc and the panache with which ranbir does it leaves u awestruck...For me,this the performance of the decade...Amitabh in Paa/Black, SRK in chak de/swades, hrithik in JA, Aamir in RDB/Lagaan...nothing even comes close to ranbir's finesse and natural flair for acting...atleast thts wht i felt...

He owns the film, as far as im concerned...and made me overlook all the flaws...and actors rarely have tht kind of power in their performances...

At the end of it,when i came out, the movie left me feeling unsure (abt if i liked the movie or not) but it haunted me for a good 2 hours after the screening, and i conclude, tht I like it if it made such an impact on me...

A warning though..it might not have the same effect on everyone...it really depends on ur POV really...just because i like it, dosent make it a good film...But I connected amazingly well with the movie and for me, it was a fabulous experience...

smartie_pants Nice review and without watching the film i can agree with the point about your opinion will depend on your taste .Just like Guzaarish who love art film react to the film like classic and the other will find it boring .The same idea with rockstar the people who love musical drama film even if its slow will love it and the other will not in simple words and about Ranbir you really love him to say that 😉

@Smartie, great review!
I am catching the late (midnight actually) night show today and even though most reviews have been mixed, I am still very hopeful, because every single review has been nothing but praises for Ranbir!
And sometimes, a truly marvellous performance can lift even the most flawed script and direction! So keeping my fingers crossed!
