It is his movie all the way. He carries the movie with ease.

He got an aamir, a role others can dream of..
This is yet another one...

Wish he gets good offers with huge budgets and the kind of story he likes.

Wish his movies are marketed well and people know that such a movie is releasing. There is not a single poster in my city, not a single poster inside the theatre.

How can a movie release with just one show??? and no shows in other big cities????

Hope it delivers for him...
The reviews say it has and it will.

We knew he would justice to all he does. So it is not surprising that he has done it so well. He is good right from the first moment he enters the city, till the last moment when they show him in an unknown place. (he has a not seen before look in the last scene)
He shows he can pull of any role. The videos showed what to expect, but as usual it exceeds expectations.

He is this small town boy, does all things bad, debases and abuses himself as he indulges in debauchery yet has this innocence.

We heard so many superlative adjective phrases about his performance, one even calling his performance the best so far this year. It is so.

A DJ need not look or behave a particular way,
a man who is wasted need not necessarily be thin.
The critics who say this must be writing it referring to the original movie.
This is raunak, a small town boy, pushed into limelight in a place very new to him, (limelight is what he wants from a young age). He is a very endearing indian.
A DJ done rajeev's way.

I can mention all the moments but you have to see it to enjoy. It is filled with moments of all kinds.
And there are so many moments, all unique moments. If i thought there was array of emotion in aamir, this one shows every human emotion. (no evil emotions)

He is funny, so relaxed, so carefree, so inhibitions free, very comfortable as comfortable as he is with his half nakedness...(he is most of the time)

He is beautiful, he is handsome, he is hot...The scene where he removes his shirt twirls it and throw it into the crowd is hot.

If two years back he shook us with his shareerik sambandh questions here he simulates quite a few shareerik sambandh scenes, (all positions) but somehow it does not titillate or make you ask 'rajeev tune kya kiya'. (maybe kind of expected this from the interviews and finally that uncensored video). It is blatant sex, very suggestive, more than suggestive... But all for just a very few seconds in songs.

Matured as a fan.

His chemistry with both the girls is good and different.

His chemistry with soha is awesome, so very very good. I have never seen her act, felt konkana would have been better. But she is so good. So subtle and effective. Just like him. (so if at all she gets an award and he gets ignored, i wont feel very very bad, hahaha who am i kidding i will feel very very bad but wont feel she did not deserve)

I like movies like samy, dhool, gilli, Ko. Even ko i thought was boring in the end. But enjoyed Soundrtrack a lot a lot a lot.

Is it offbeat, real age, not the usual run of the mill... maybe yes. It is not your usual masala or commercial film. But it worked for me. Never felt bored even a moment.

Will watch it again. The mind cant absorb everything the first time.

Aamir was told well, and was an awesome thriller, Shaitan had mystery and thrills. This has no mystery nor a thriller, this is a story of a small town boy who makes it big, loses it and triumphs. Could have been said differently , very cinematically , but the director chose to show it this way.

A huge thanks to neerav ghosh and saregama for showing us such a colourful (literally figurateviely metaphorically) rajeev khandelwal...
We did not think Aamir will get such a prominent place in the history of hindi cinema. This too will.

Nobody knows what clicks at the box office. Really wish it does. Mainly because more people should see and enjoy and appreciate what he has done, in the way it should - in a theater...

I can write more and more, but words can't capture you have to Mehsoos kar...😊
----------------------------------------------------------------
this is a huge post...šŸ˜›
he is shown as a 26 year old in the opening scene. He looks young in that scene and can pass off as a 25 and three fourths as well...😃. He looks good. And he is no longer this two left foot guy either.

Film reviews

Hitting the high notes

Karan Anshuman

Posted On Saturday, October 08, 2011 at 03:02:07 AM

? Director Neerav Ghosh ? Actors Rajeev Khandelwal, Soha Ali Khan, Mrinalini Sharma, Mohan Kapoor, Yatin Karyekar ? Run Time134 mins ? Certification A

Soundtrack is an official remake of It's All Gone Pete Tong (2004) - a Canadian indie; a vivid blur of energy, and excesses - and it remains faithful to the original for most part.

A story in two halves, the first is about a small town boy Raunak (Rajeev Khandelwal) with a knack for music who lands up in Mumbai and is quickly put to work in a nightclub. Effortlessly he takes over the club's DJ duties and is an instant success.

Almost genius, he quickly becomes 'Bandra ka Beethoven' and signs up with Anurag Kashyap to score for his film. With celebrity come the vices of a rockstar, and he quickly spirals out of his senses and eventually lives his worst nightmare… he goes deaf.

The first half, while nowhere quite as edgy as the original, certainly has its moments and breaks a few stereotypes of Bollywood. Raunak stays with his open-minded uncle and family (kid included), and has no inhibitions to doing drugs and drinking out of a bottle 24/7. There is no sermonising, no lectures on culture. Good.

When things get really trippy, he moves out to a fancy bungalow in Alibaug and here he let's go entirely. No location is off-limits for fiery, no-holds-barred make-out sessions with his groupie-turned-girlfriend (Mrinalini Sharma).

A particularly outstanding moment is one of them going at it with each other on the glass roof of the house oblivious to a red-faced maid who is trying to work in the kitchen. Still, some of the drinking is lame and Khandelwal just doesn't look intoxicated enough and doesn't seem wasting away given that perfectly crafted body.

Once he goes deaf, in the second half, Raunak traverses an extreme path to finally come to terms with his handicap. He changes greatly (and Khandelwal does the role justice), but the transfiguration is plausible precisely because of the radical methods (shutting himself off to the world for four months, lighting a bomb strapped to his ears) all of which fail.

He meets Gauri (Soha Ali Khan), a teacher who helps him learn to lip-read, and gently (in contrast to his first relationship) they fall in love. With his newfound comfort in his handicap, he discovers that indeed he has a chance to emulate that obvious example of a deaf musician.

Given that Bollywood filmmakers are old hands at romances, the love story surpasses the one in the original. A lot of this may be attributed to Soha's skill and her commitment to playing a deaf-mute.

In between all this is a representation of Raunak's inner demons that physically manifests as a clown. Though the portrayal is tacky, the thought is bold; it could've easily been written out (the original has a coke-snorting Badger) but the makers choose to keep it.

Sound design is of course the key technical department to look out for here -and despite the easy chance to overdo the gimmickry - switching from his point of view to the audience's - thankfully there is much restraint. The directing is mostly smooth, but Ghosh loses his way in a few scenes, notably the one where the girlfriend leaves Raunak.

The club scenes too seem too stereotypical. One would've liked to see more of Raunak's difficulty in dealing with his deafness. He has trouble coming to terms with the idea of it and he is terribly angry at all times, but has almost no problems in a physical sense while adjusting to the world with his affliction.

I'd have been happy to rate this movie higher had it been entirely original. Even so, the choice of film to remake is commendable simply because it is not your usual cup of tea. Without a doubt, Soundtrack is the movie to watch this week.

By saying that you are belittling the amazing reviews he gave for Aamir and Shaitaan !
He did say "usually a brilliant actor"...It is understood that he had more expectations...He wudve been less critical if the lead was sumone else...But he knows Rajeev's potential !!

I think Masand is is by far the most unbiased critic...Even sumtimes Raja gets a tad biased...But Masand makes no bones abt trashing even big banner films...There are films for which he has said "It was soo bad that I refuse to review it"...He is very forthcoming !

Anyways - What about Mayank Shekhar??? Hez another popular critic and has a show of his own I guess and has Raja Sen skipped this flick??

Bandra ka Beethoven? Well...
Mayank Shekhar

Soundtrack

Director: Neerav Ghosh
Actors: Rajeev Khandelwal, Mohan Kapoor
Rating: **

These are musicians world-famous, north of Mumbai's Worli. The front man is the resident DJ at a nightclub called Tango Charlie. When not spinning on the console, his partner's busy with a groupie going down on him in the greenroom.

The hero's manager (Mohan Kapoor) decodes the gist of their trade: "What's the best thing about music," he asks. "Melodies, solo guitars…" says his protg DJ. "The chicks bro; music is like honey, they're like bees," enlightens the manager. Fair enough.

But this leading man of ours, swigging Johnny Black from the bottle, smoking pot from the bong, probably has a long way to go. He's just about gotten noticed, as it were. Labouring all night on his Logic Pro, he records a track with an unknown, old, poor folk/Sufi type singer. The number's original. People fall for it at the discotheque. He's now scored a gig at Goa's Sunburn. Done. Wohoo! Malishka, the popular radio jockey, says she'd only get requests for this DJ's non-Bollywood independent track, 'What the f' to play on FM all day. Really?

The ultimate in aspiration for DJ Raunak is AR Rahman. Who is, as they say, the Mozart of Madras. The film informs us, the hero's not even yet the "Bandra ka Beethoven". Bandra, of course, being a tony suburb in north Mumbai, where the makers of this movie are probably from. It could be Soho, if Mumbai itself was New York City (which it isn't). Though currently in serious decline, it's still a neighbourhood known for its more alternative creative outputs: artists, filmmakers, designers, musicians, models….

Director Anurag Kashyap is possibly the Karan Johar of this lot. He rightly makes appearances in this film. Rajeev Khandelwal (Aamir, Shaitan) is likely to be appreciated more here than, say, Shah Rukh Khan. He plays the hero. Movies unite the young in these lively parts. Floating population love eating and drinking out. They enjoy as much ordering in, DVDs, as in this case.

This movie's directly lifted from Michael Dowse's It's All Gone Pete Tong (2004). The filmmakers acknowledge the source in the closing credits, which I guess, just about makes it okay. The original was the kind of DVD that would have long queue at rentals like Bandra's Sarvodaya or Movie Empire. It's a mockumentary, concerned a hedonistic, drug-addict DJ, who becomes deaf in pursuit of his ambitions, forever surrounded by cocaine and loud music. Soha Ali Khan plays the girl who helps him heal in this film. An alter ego visits the hallucinating leading man. That's a joker from Shweta Shetty's '90s music video 'Johnny Joker' in this picture. Nostalgia is evident. Fakeness being passed off for local cool shows. Sadly.

Here's the problem with adapting culture specific substances to an Indian context, at least with a deeply derivative movie like this. For starters, Alibagh is no Ibiza. The story defies a fundamental rule about rockstars in India: that there are none. Movie actors lip syncing and dancing to tracks at cinemas and TV alone make for all-purpose super-stars in Indian pop-culture. Unfortunately.

Independent Bandra musicians at best can look to fetch about Rs 25,000 for a gig at Blue Frog, haggling with the cabbie on their way to the venue. This is why the Boogie Nights' pool parties, The Aviator style closed-door seclusion of the genius artiste, and The Doors' greenroom groupies, seem so out of place. Mithunda's '80s Fast Forward copy Dance Dance appears a lot less pretentious in comparison! The soundtrack for a film by that name is also strictly whatever, besides a bunch of Bollywood remixes: Yeh Jevan Hai (Piya Ka Ghar), Rahi O Rahi (Himalay Se Ooncha), Khulam Khula Pyar Karenge (Khel Khel Mein)…

You can still tell a bunch of Bandroids trying hard. Something genuine, off-centre, Indian, original, and cutting image, will eventually emerge from efforts like these. Until then, I guess, we should just bear with these.

What is he writing??? Hez stuck on Bandra...Is this how you do a film review? He didnt even properly critique it...I have a feel he waited for Masand to review it and then reviewed it on that base ! Weirdo...Why is he talking about Bandra is what I dont get...I guess m glad Raja didnt review it...Seeing Mayank and Masand...I am expecting Raja to trash the flick as well !
