if you wanted to give actresses more importance, you should've wrote it the other way round, by saying "If SRK didn't romance Kajol.."... what you're implying is that the film was successful mainly because of SRK, and if it was any other actor, it wouldn't have done as well.

So i would say it was KATRINA MAGIC which made AJAB PREM KI GHAzAB KAHANI = SUPER HIT

Ranbir's 1st HIT n 1st SUPERHIT... HYPE was coz of KATY's YOUNG COOL LOOK... and pairing with Ranbir...

I didn't say he was a big star. He was the new big thing yes--that's what the media was saying as were many industrywaale. The hype round Ranbir Kapoor was huge..you can't deny that? Saawariya flopped, but Ranbir wasn't drastically affected by that. He walked away with all the praise from the movie. Then Bachna worked. His relationship with Deepika/fight with Sonam/competition with Imran kept him in the news a lot as well. Then Ajab happened and there was no looking back. Frankly speaking I don't think Ajab worked only because of Katrina. Ranbir is popular amongst the youth.

Billa, I don't think you understand what cunninlinguist is trying to say. By saying 'If XYZ hadn't romanced that girl, the film wouldn't have been a hit', you subsequently also say that the actress was merely a prop who was present in the film just to fill in the role of the hero's 'romantic interest', without having any other substantial objective to fulfill. In other words, the female character is just another subplot added to the 'hero's story' to make it more entertaining.

wow so some people are claiming that Ranbir was a hit at the BO before APKGK what a lame excuse he was flop before APKGK, ranbirs most succesful movie before APKGK was BAH which ONLY became a semi hit, so how on earth was he a hit star before APGK, it was kat who is the reason behind the BO success of APKGK, the movie was on her shoulders, after APKGK ranbir didn't make succesful films at BO like salesman, anana anjani, it was first with Raajneeti again he saw a big succes.
