Aamir Khan, Sushmita Sen & Cine Artists Association come out in support of Aishwarya

Sources: India Today, NDTV, Zoom TV.

Since the past one week, there has been an uproar from women activists all over the country on the 'Heroine' controversy on Aishwarya being discriminated on a 'disease' called pregnancy. Now the whole industry is ganging up in support of Aishwarya.

Sushmita Sen had this to say ' "Aishwarya has always been known to be a beautiful woman. She has brought great laurels to our country. Both of us are international winners. She is a beautiful woman who is going to be a mother, and that will increase her beauty manifold. She will be a very beautiful mother. I am very happy for her, Abhishek and the entire family. God bless the baby."

When questioned about whether there should be a pregnancy clause in films ' "I would show the producer the door if he gets a clause like that. I don't believe what I do outside my job is anybody's business."

The fiery Sush has exposed the double standards of the industry. "My take on the Ash- pregnancy clause issue is simple: If producers want to include a no pregnancy clause then they should do it across the board for even male actors. If terms have to be dictated to female actors then even male actors should be told not to have a baby while their film is being shot. Come on, it's the 21 st century, boss, equal rules should apply for everyone."

Aamir Khan ' "I don't think Aishwarya is unprofessional. I think she would not like that one person's absence jeopardizes everybody else's chance on the set."

Smriti Irani, the topmost Television star, shared her experience about how she got pregnant during the filming of her show and how the producers accomodated it and made it easier for her instead of making an issue out of it, saying a similar appoach could have been met with in this case too.

Raj Kumar Santoshi, who was supposed to begin filming his next film 'Ladies and Gentlemen' with Aishwarya in August happily agreed to postpone the film for Aishwarya's well-being ' ""It is a film that I had written keeping her in mind. For now, the movie has been postponed to next year. She is a talented and beautiful artiste and this period should be treated as her maternity leave."

Katrina Kaif ' "I think we are all her family. The film industry is like her family. And we don't have to get so harsh on things. We should all work together as friends."

Shahana Goswami, Aishwarya's co-star in 'Heroine' also poured in support for Aishwarya quoting the example of Penelope Cruz, who shot for the entire schedule of the Pirates of Caribbean being pregnant.

The Cine Employers Association says it will support Aishwarya if she files a complaint against UTV & Madhur Bhandarkar.

Poor Madhur. I feel bad for him. Life is not bed of roses, and especially if you are up against poeple like Amitabh. I like Amitabh and Abhishek, but don't why, and how, they hold so much power in bollywood. I don't like it.

What does she propose to implement this clause? Give monthly pregnancy tests to the wives of every male actor? Or get the Hero to sign a celibacy clause in their contracts?

Interesting statements from the artists.

I do not agree with Sushmita with her statements. I am an admirer of Sushmita since the days she won Miss India. She and Madhu Sapre were two beauty queens with a lot of spunk. But it seems to me a knee-jerk reaction to male vs female. In most careers, it doesn't matter if the employee is pregnant or not. Their productivity and contribution is not hampered by them just being pregnant.

Anyhow, an actor in a film is chosen because he/she can match what the writer/director/producer has conceived as the character. That includes the ability to act as well physical attributes. Sometimes, the actor is willing to undergo physical changes in appearance just to look the part.

So, in this case of the film Heroine, Aishwarya was a part of the film, because the creators believed that she looks the part as well as can play the part. So, instead of putting the *so called pregnancy clause*, it would make sense IMO to put a clause on *appearance*. That is subjective in itself, but when a *look* of a character is of importance to a script, it makes sense.

Now, an actor cannot sign his/her life away and wait for eternity, just because the film overruns on schedule, time and budget. There has to be a definite agreement on how long the actor is supposed to maintain whatever look that has been agreed on.

So, if the producer is dumping all the blame on the actor because the project is in danger of being overrun in schedule, that is wrong. And if an actor has purposefully misled the producer that in the agreed months of filming, there would be no hassles in terms of maintaining the look or playing the part as in script, then that is wrong too.

But this has to apply both to male and female actors. There have been numerous times, that a male actor has extra weight, or different hairstyle etc. That also should be an issue, since it affects the final product.

There is a whole lot of *He said* , *She said* *they said* and *We said* ... When a project goes haywire then there is always a tendency to blame everyone and their grandmothers, that is even true in the corporate world! So, why should film industry be any different!

Maybe it is time for productions to be better managed in terms of scripting, scheduling and budgeting and time for honesty in dealings with and from actors and for everything else there is *Insurance*

I am a hardcore feminist.I also beleive in maternity leave.
But this time this is not only a woman related issue only. It's about the work.Madhur is a filmmaker. He has to do finish filming within a specified time period.Otherwise he will face loss.So as a businessman he will look after it.I find nothing wrong here.If even today Arjun Rampal get hurts and hospitalized for several months then he should also be replaced. So i don't find it anything against fair sex. When you are in a business you can not be good to everyone.
So I don't find Madhur's fault here. But yes if Aishwarya confirms that she would still like to work in her pregnancy then Madhur should not replace her.You can not desert an actress because she is pregnant similarly you can not tell a director to pack up because you ae pregnant.
