First of all, I want to say that this topic is not my idea at all. I was browsing another Bollywood forum a few days ago and came across the same topic and found some very interesting discussions arise from it. So I decided to ask the same questions over here and see what happens.

I know its been years since both movies released, a decade for Lagaan in fact, but they both were so good and stood out in their own right - which one did you enjoy more?

1. An acting award for SRK in Swades or one for Aamir Khan in Lagaan? (how they acted the part)

2. An acting award for Gayatri Joshi or one for Gracy Singh? (how they acted the part)

3. Mohan or Bhuvan? (regardless of the actor)

4. Gita or Gauri? (regardless of the actress)

5. Trying to get electricity or winning a cricket match?

6. Pal Pal Hai Bhaari or Radha Kaise Na Jale? (both songs take place in a religious festival)

7. Yeh Tara Woh Tara or Mitwa? (both songs show people being won over by the lead character's dream)

8. Best story is Swades or Lagaan?

9. Best soundtrack is Swades or Lagaan?

10. Best dramatic curve is in Swades or Lagaan?

11. White NASA scientists or white British officers/cricket players?

12. Overall best movie? Swades or Lagaan?

Lagaan. Swades is a good film, but Lagaan is incredible. In every way.

I never saw Swades so I can't objectively compare the two

But I always loved watching the Swades trailer on tv and following along with one of the song's tunes😃

it wasnt about "cricket match". that was jsut the means. it was about tax breaks for the whole village which has been going through a dry patch

tax breaks for an alreadry dry and starving village to be exact

Great topic... Two of my all time favorite movies... Tough to choose between them...

1. An acting award for SRK in Swades or one for Aamir Khan in Lagaan? (how they acted the part)

IMO...SRK's best performance till date are Swades and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naan ...

Swades came at a time right after SRK was at his peak doing all the YRF/Kjo candy floss.. NRI themed movies...

This movie was a welcome change...

And what an outstanding performance...Loved his portrayal of Mohan Bhargava...

Aamir too did a great job in Lagaan and I have liked his performances in many more movies too...

Tough to pick between the two...But definitely my vote goes to SRK in Swades...

2. An acting award for Gayatri Joshi or one for Gracy Singh? (how they acted the part)

Gayatri Joshi... I like the subtleness in the way she portrayed the role...

The shyness... The mild rebellion... everything was very subtle...

3. Mohan or Bhuvan? (regardless of the actor)

Again I liked the character Mohan...His inner turmoil... The confusion within him...

The character torn between two totally different worlds...It was a very well written character...

4. Gita or Gauri? (regardless of the actress)

Trying to get electricity... Much more a relevant issue of today...

8. Best story is Swades or Lagaan?

Swades..The story of going back to the roots... the grassroot realism... struck a chord with me...

9. Best soundtrack is Swades or Lagaan?

AR Rehmam Rocks... Both had great music... I pick Lagaan...

10. Best dramatic curve is in Swades or Lagaan?

Definitely Lagaan...That was what lacked in Swades...

11. White NASA scientists or white British officers/cricket players?

I pick the Lagaan team...

12. Overall best movie? Swades or Lagaan?

Hmmm... Tough choice again...

Swades was a movie I felt was ahead of its time when it released 2004... That was a time when SRK was popular as a romantic hero with his YRF/Kjo genres and NRI backdrop movie...When he tried doing something different it just did not work...

It was highly acclaimed critically but it did not reach out to the wider audience...

I think if this movie was made now it would have worked...Movies with different genres have much more acceptance now compared to what it was 5-6 years back...

Lagaan was overall a very well made movie...It had a right mix of drama, emotions, entertainment... It worked critically and it was a huge commercial success... A very well packaged movie...

So...Overall best movie Lagaan... and Acting award for SRK in Swades...

i didn't enjoy swades at ALL! no offence to anyone

i wasn't into the movie at all. i thought it was super boring lol

i loooved lagaan though! i just love all those kind of movies (the british indo-pak movies) shows a lot abt history 👍🏼. aamir was greaaatt innit. hope to see more of those films 😛

When I sat and watched Swades I was not impressed.But then teh movie stayed in my mind (as only goodmovies can) and I realised that I can watch it again and again and again. Somehow, for me Lagaan's climax was its key strength and I just loved it. But somehow the movie did not bring out the undercurrents as well as Swades did..
