1. An acting award for SRK in Swades or one for Aamir Khan in Lagaan? (how they acted the part) SRK in Swades

2. An acting award for Gayatri Joshi or one for Gracy Singh? (how they acted the part) None

3. Mohan or Bhuvan? (regardless of the actor) Bhuvan

4. Gita or Gauri? (regardless of the actress) I don't remember who's who.

5. Trying to get electricity or winning a cricket match? The match was for tax relaxation. I will still go with bringing electricity.

6. Pal Pal Hai Bhaari or Radha Kaise Na Jale? (both songs take place in a religious festival) Radha kaise na jale

7. Yeh Tara Woh Tara or Mitwa? (both songs show people being won over by the lead character's dream) Mitwa

8. Best story is Swades or Lagaan? Lagaan

9. Best soundtrack is Swades or Lagaan? Lagaan

10. Best dramatic curve is in Swades or Lagaan? Hmmm...Lagaan

11. White NASA scientists or white British officers/cricket players? Ha Ha

12. Overall best movie? Swades or Lagaan? Lagaan. Ashutosh must learn crisp editing.

I haven't seen Lagaan ( have it sitting at home, will definately watch soon). But I LOVEDDD Swades to pieces. One of my favourite SRK movies of all time and I LOVED Gayatri Joshi in her role as well. The movie was well made and the music was enjoyable!

Swades, I would say was a more impactful and relevant film for our times!

The story of an educated, successful, yet essentially middle-class NRI guy coming back to his roots and rediscovering his purpose in life was very soul stirring! A lot of people identified with Mohan Bhargav.

Bhuvan, despite Aamir's fantastic acting, was in the end a typical hindi film hero, who wins against all odds! In fact, it was Aamir the actor who added such credibility and realism to Bhuvan's character!

But really, both the films do make Bollywood very proud in their own way! Ashutosh Gowarikar can retire in peace, knowing that despite duds like What's your Rashee and KHJJK, he has already made a superb contributon to the Indian film Industry with films like Lagaan and Swades!

PS : Also, Mohan and Gita's romance was so subtle and sweet...I somehow found Gauri to be very irritating! Maybe something to do with the actress! I was rooting for Elizabeth and Bhuvan to get together in the end!😆

Poppy... Agree with you... Swades was great story... It was loosely based on a Kannada movie which was based on an original story by a noted Kannada writer...

Till today I cannot believe the same guy who made movies like Lagaan and Swades made a dud like WYR...

I didn't know that! I always thought it was an original work by Ashu! Just proves that better films are made down South, they just don't get the kind of recognition they deserve!

In anycase, Swades was a very well-made film! Some of the scenes still remain in my memory! Especially the one, where Mohan goes to a village and sees a very poor family with almost nothing to eat...SRK was so damn good in that scene! I never thought that someone as commercial an actor like SRK could pull off such a role! But he did! (Only that one time and then partially in Chak De India!)

And the song, 'Yeh Jo des hain mera...' always brings tears to my eyes! Even though Lagaan had better music, Swades had better lyrics! Strange coincidence, because both the films have the exact same musical team...Rahman and Javed Akhtar!

Hopefully, Ashu will come up with a great film before he retires!

both SRK and Aamir made an impact with their movies...Lagaan dealt with an issue prevelant pre-independence n Swades dealt with an issue post independence our country is facing...n i believe both have been handled well...however for me,my vote goes to SRK coz his role of Mohan Bhargav struck a chord...

Gayatri Joshi...she luked more geniune in the character of Gauri...

Mohan Bhargav...

Both...however luved spotting the blooper with reference to the cricket match😆

Yeh tara woh tara...luved the kids participation in the song...

Both...i feel strongly for both the issues in the film

Lagaan...even AR Rehman admitted tat the soundtract for Swade could have been better...

Swades...never expected Mohan to return to his country...Lagaan it was kinda expected...IMO...
