Actor Hansika Motwani recently made headlines after her divorce from businessman Sohael Khaturiya was finalised on March 11 by the Bandra Family Court in Mumbai. As the news spread, attention also shifted to her estranged sister in law Nancy James, who is currently separated from Hansika’s brother Prashant Motwani. Nancy has now requested people on social media not to link her personal situation with Hansika’s divorce.
Speaking to HT City about the sudden attention, Nancy said she began receiving several calls and messages soon after the news of Hansika’s separation became public. According to her, people repeatedly asked for her reaction to the development. She explained that the constant tagging and direct messages online became overwhelming and eventually forced her to address the issue through a social media post.
“After Hansika’s divorce I started getting a lot of calls and messages to comment on the development. On social media also I started getting a lot of DMs and tags and people started this is karma for Hansika. I really got fed up. Honestly, I don’t want to involve myself in anyone else’s life. My divorce is underway. And I am on a healing journey. I was getting calls and messaged for comments, I was fed up so I wrote the message on Stories."
Nancy’s marriage with Prashant Motwani is currently under legal process. The actor has previously stated that she does not share a cordial relationship with the Motwani family. In December 2024, she filed a police complaint against Hansika and her mother Jyoti Motwani under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The complaint included allegations related to cruelty, assault and intimidation.
In her statement earlier, Nancy had alleged that she faced domestic violence during her marriage. She also claimed that disputes within the family contributed to serious health issues, including Bell’s palsy. According to her complaint, she was asked to arrange expensive gifts and money and was also pressured to sell her property. Nancy further alleged that frequent interference from family members worsened the situation between her and Prashant.
Responding to these claims earlier, Hansika and her mother obtained anticipatory bail from the Mumbai Sessions Court in February. Later, they approached the Bombay High Court seeking to quash the FIR, stating that Hansika was surprised to see her name mentioned in the complaint.
Explaining her current position, Nancy said, “I have been harassed and tortured by this family and I don’t want to associate with them anymore . I am therefore seeking divorce and has file a DV case against my husbands his sister and mother. I hope my divorce puts an end to the ordeal. I am still suffering and on a healing journey,” Nancy says.
She concluded by adding, “I have full faith in the judiciary and the legal system of our country. Justice will prevail and once the case reaches its logical conclusion I will speak at length But right now, I don’t want to be dragged in her case or her karma or whatever.”
