Rapper Badshah has landed in fresh controversy after the Haryana State Commission for Women directed police authorities to arrest him for failing to appear before the panel in connection with the row around his Haryanvi track Tateeree.

The commission had summoned the singer to appear in Panipat by 3 pm on Friday to respond to complaints over the song’s lyrics and visuals. However, Badshah did not attend the hearing, prompting the commission to take stricter action. The track has faced strong criticism on social media and from several groups who claim the lyrics and visual presentation are objectionable and disrespectful, particularly towards girls shown in school uniforms.

Speaking to reporters, commission chairperson Renu Bhatia confirmed that instructions have been issued to the police to trace the rapper and ensure he appears before the authorities. According to her, directions have also been given to seize his passport so that he cannot leave the country while the matter is under review. “I have ordered SP Panipat to get Badshah arrested from anywhere, any place and issue search orders,” Bhatia told reporters. She also said the singer had been asked to appear before the commission by March 13 and explain the content of the song “in which Haryana daughters have been insulted with inappropriate words and language.” She further confirmed that FIRs related to the matter have already been registered in Panchkula and Jind.

The commission chairperson also stated that she has written to the National Commission for Women, requesting that the rapper’s shows should not be allowed across the country until the issue is addressed.

Meanwhile, a lawyer representing Badshah told reporters that the artist had not been given enough opportunity to present his side. According to the lawyer, they appeared before the commission with an authority letter and requested additional time, claiming that the summons had not reached the singer. “Under the law, everyone has the right to present their side. But here that is not being given,” the lawyer said. Bhatia acknowledged that the legal team had asked for another date, but the request was not accepted.

Amid the backlash, Badshah said his song Tateeree unintentionally hurt sentiments, especially in Haryana. He said his identity is rooted there and insisted he never intended to disrespect children or women.
