Ash went through the exact same phase that Rani/Preity is going through now. After Devdas (which was released on July 2002), Ash did NOT have a single "hit" on her credit until she did Dhoom2 (November, 2006) - where her performance was heavily criticized by both fans and critics alike for being "artificial" and "unconvincing". She was struggling with her career, and most people called her a "gone for good" during that phase, which lasted roughly four and half years. Compared with that, KANK was released in mid 2006, and it has been roughly four years that Rani/Preity had a hit. Granted Ash had "critically acclaimed performances" that everyone raved about during that time, but then, even Rani/Preity gave performances during the last four years which got them accolades and awards (Heaven on Earth, LCMD, DBH). It's not as if Ash did not have thousand contacts behind her back as well. Franly, all of them - Ash, Preity, Kajol and esp. Rani had contacts to make their career move forward.

Also, being "successful" does not mean being talented. For instance, Manisha Koirala isn't a very successful actress, but she definitely is a lot more talented than any other actresses we had in this whole decade (except perhaps a few). On the contrary, Katrina is successful, but even her fans admit she isn't talented.

And if Rani/Preity had SRK/KJo/YRF behind their back - Ash had Sanjay Leela Bhansali (God knows what would have happened to this lady if it weren't for him!), Mani Ratnam, Ashka Gowarikar, etc swooning for her. Most male directors are crazy about taking her on their respective films, and it is blatantly obvious why. 😆 Has any female director ever wanted to cast Ash? 😆 Or KJo? 😉

Take away her "beauty" and you are left with an ordinary star who can't act to save her life. Frankly, Ash is a worse actor than a Katrina or a Deepika. At least Kat and Deepika never got the chance to work with top, brilliant directors like Mani or SLB. If SLB, Mani Ratnam and Ashka Gowarikar fails to make her act - then she is a lost cause. Kat and Deepika both are improving, but Ash? How much did she improve with her acting throughout her whole 13-years-old career, especially when she had all the top directors on her hand? 🤔

Aishwariya's expressions are cold and icy most of the time, and her dialogue delivery? Grr, don't even let me get started on that. Her dialogue delivery must be the weakest aspect of her acting. Make her stand in the corner of a room, and you have a beautiful showpiece to look at. Now make her talk - she makes me cringe with her dialogue delivery. Firstly, her voice is a turn off for me, as there is no depth into it, like there isa depth in Rani's/Priyanka's/Vidya's voice, and secondly, her dialogues come off as forced and memorized - not something that she should be saying from her heart.

Yeah, she is a beautiful woman, but her beauty does not translate into good acting, unfortunately.

Disclaimer: Doing what the topic starter asked us for - analyzing her professional career without bringing her personal life into account. If there is any objection to it, then the topic should be closed first (as the topic itself asks and talks about her professional life, comparing it with two other actresses, namely Rani and Preity; it's all their in the OP) - it's not as if I am talking out of the box.

. There is other way of dissing Ash (if that is ones intention) without bringing her personal life into account. Personally, I don't like Ash (and that has to do more with her onscreen personality than anything else), and whenever I'd like to criticize her - I do it by talking about her acting incapability, icy personality etc, NOT by bringing Salman and Vivek (which seems to be quite a good excuse for people who dislike her to bash and thrash Ash). Talking about her onscreen personality or acting capabilities or lack thereof is a fair deal, I think; talking about her personal life isn't.

well as I am the one who mainly talked abt it..i'll say the reason..people here said Rani/Preity had SRK/KJo/YRF behind them as friends - and 'friends' as far as i know is not a part of an actress's professional resume..
so my point is if Rani/Preity had 'friends' to help them, Ash had 'BOY FRIENDS' n now a 'HUBBY'
and 'IN-LAWS' who have quite a name behind them to help her!

So there was a reason 4 bringing that point out..n if my words sounded harsh..im sorry..but wt i laid out was fact as it was in reference to the Original Posters post whr that person used Rani n Preity's personal equations to devalue their achievements!

Rani , Preity, Ash all are talented and have their own forte.

I cant imagine Ash doing a "Black" ( is a SLB movoe too)
In the same way Rani is misfit as "Jodha"
Preity's Kya kehna canoot be done either by Ash or Rani

I was also the one who brought in her personal life, I did it because some people were very easily attributing her success to the only fact that she was brave in her personal life. Now if people are praising her only on the basis of her ofscreen bravery then don't we have the right to dissect her supposed bravery and make a case. If the discussion and praises were for her acting, her star power and her movies alone I wouldn't have felt the need to bring other facts in the discussion. But, most of the people were talking about her bravery of rebelling against the chopras, johars and khans so I made my case and described how what she did was not brave but jsut an act of survival. Now the same people who are using her ofscreen life as an example to praise her are becoming wary that we disected that aspect.. Well if you can praise.. can't we dissect?? So technically the pro-ash people were the ones who brought in her personal life in the discussion. Now about the shock and horror of saying that she used her boyfriends.. whats the big deal in that.. bigger stuff has been said on this forum.. even relating to supposed sexual orientation of many stars.. And if some are so concerned about name calling then what about priety and rani?? Aren't they woman also?? Whats this logic of glorifying one woman by dissing and putting down achivements of other women. Yeh kahan ka insaaf?? Shouldn't all women be given equal respect.. I would have been happier if others in the thread were equally concerned about the name calling happening for all women.. instead of just worrying about their fav and at the same time dissing other women to glorify their fav and expecting us to not say anythin about their fav.

Actually I have appreciated the movie if you look at my first post on this movie and even said that Rani had done a good job.

Yes everyone has a right to dissect- thats what we are here for.

What beats me is as a woman she did did stand up against the popular choices and I would think other women would atleast respect if not support her stance (note stance not the individual).

But here we are criticising some one bcoz they did it? Is that what we expect- our actress to sway to the popular opinion of the alpha male bollywood male actors? Unfortunately until such opinions exist Bollywood will cont to remain a male dominated industry.

Anyways I dont see this discussion going anywhere, you have your opinion, I have mine, none of us are going to change.

So I'm off this topic now.

For me feminism is not about elevating one woman at the cost of others. If you wanna praise your fav go ahead do it, I don't think any regular forum member went out of their way to criticize any actress, but when fans were insulting other actresses just to glorify their fav then others stepped in to give their perspective. But, alas their perspective was called name calling, but the names that were called by others were clearly ignored. Now my perception of Ash's actions have been made clear in numereous posts by now and I don't wanna go down the slippery slope of doing it again and then getting my opinions being labelled as bashing, just because I countered. For me feminism is embrasing every woman and realizing that they come from different backgrounds and they all made it despite their odds.. and I don't think in this process it is nice to use femenism to elevate the actions of one actress and show others in poor light.
Now after discussing all this I have come to a conclusion that why are we even talking about personal lives. Would we even know what happened or what happens behind closed doors.. no.. Isn't it silly to even judge celebs based on the tabloid stories that we have read.. I mean whats the point?? Will we ever know the truth.. believing any thing fed by the media or newspapers is childsplay.. the truth is we will never be able to know any celeb for real.. coz all we are fed are recounts by various sources.. whose credibility is questionable. So I will judge ash by how she connects with me.. thta is as an actress.. has any of her performance empowered me as a woman?? no.. has any of her performance touched my heart no.. so naa..

After a lengthy 9 page 'discussion' I think its time for this to be closed since it's going way off track.
