I for one like Deepika because I find her confident, well-grounded. I like the way she has worked hard to reach where she is. Im absolutely tired of all these actress backed by bollywood families thinking that its their birth right to be successfull and keep giving sound bytes which are very arrogant.

I find Deepika relatable, The problem is that most bollywood actress are either too aloof or too arrogant.

I think its pretty commendable that Deepika who was totally unrelated to the movie industry has been able to break into it. When was the last time since, Mads, Juhi & Dridevi have we seen a top actress who comes without any Bollywood family connections?

I have met Deepika once and found her very pleasant and must say unlike her interviews she sounded intelligent.

However as an actress she is pretty bad, having said that about 99.999% of bollywood actress were unbearable in their first few movies, Karishma anyone?

So Im still willing to give her the benefit of doubt and hope that she comes good.

I think she has gotten way too much publicity and hype for what she has actually shown so far. I have nothing against the girl, just my honest opinion. She got crazy hyped up because of OSO even though that wasn't even her real voice and her role didn't have much substance. She debuted with SRK and looked very good in the movie so there was a lot more hype than there should have been. Honestly I watch her movies sometimes and I cringe because I feel like she will mess up somewhere. She has greatly improved and continues to do so in every movie. I thought she did her part well in KCK. She still isn't that good of an actress yet. I still find many weak spots in her acting, particularly her dialogue delivery is weak. And the roles she does choose don't really even revolve around her. In all of the movies she's been a secondary character so I'd like to see her in a movie where she's the biggest piece. She also hasn't done any tough roles yet either. She still has a long way to go in my opinion.

Deepika is popular,YES, but is her popularity only bcoz of SRK the answer would be NO. If SRK could make heroines into superstars than Gayatri Joshi would have been a superstar today.
YES SRK and Farah Khan gave her a grand debut and grand promotions in the form of an out and out masala film which turned out to be a blockbuster compared to other debutants who started there careers with SRK like Gayatri who's movie was just critically acclaimed and Anushka who's movie was a hit but the movie and the hype around it was nothing compared to OSO
So YES, SRK played an important role in kickstarting her career, but her popularity I would not attribute it to just SRK. Even before her debut she was a very well known ramp model and on print ads and was on the kingfisher calender.
All credit to SRK and more to Farah Khan for giving her a dream launch which was a catalyst in kickstarting her career.
But after the debut her career took the same course like Katrina's. Both have LADY LUCK on there side. Both have zero acting skills and dancing skills, but they have that x factor in them especially Katrina and to some extent Deepika too that the audience just loves them.
Deepika is a smart girl. She knows how to be in the lime light. If no films are coming up she is in the limelight be it walking on ramps during fashion weeks or in ads or dancing at awards/concerts or just by being a brand ambassador of a cricket team.
That works for her bcoz being in the limelight maintains or even increases her popularity and keeps her in people's sight.
I hope Anushka gets to make the right career moves after her upcoming movie. but I feel she does not have the x factor like a Deepika or a Sonam or a Katrina or a Priyanka or a Kareena.

No one's popular only because of one person. Yes, Deepika's debut was hyped because of SRK. Actually, she's had the perfect dream debut anyone has had in the longest time. She was lucky her first movie was with red Chillies because SRK paraded her around and hyped her up. In that sense..she was luckier than Anushka. Because YRF didn't hype Anushka at all.

BUT, after OSO, she was pretty much on her own. What OSO did was that it got her attention from other big production houses...but it was her who had to keep it going. She didn't fizzle out, and that goes to only her credit.

I'm not really a Deepika fan, don't like her acting, but she does have a certain charm. I like Anushka though, but I think what sucked for her was that she was, still is, stuck in a contract with YRF. Hence even if she did get good offers, she couldn't do them.

and ofcourse if you say deepika, anushka also debuted with SRK, n i agree with xetaxeta , " but her popularity has reached nowhere to where Deepika is at this point in her career" .

Deepika has just been 2 years in the industry and already done 5 movies , 1 special appearance ,1 item song ... and she had ALOT of fans... do u think all this is because she made her debut in OSO???

Ofcourse she got alot of fame with OSO but later on its was her own hard work.

Even i agree with that Deepika need to improve in her acting , but we need to give her time, i think she was quite nice in LAK, and KCK ...

And ofcourse she has luck with her :D

GO DEEPIKA!!

Let me tell you to have a debut with SRK ---- Deepika had influent people on her side and of course her beauty did count also...not her acting skills...😛
SRK & OSO contributed to her fame but at one point the audience started liking her for "herself" (image, attitude, off screen charisma....) despite her annoying voice...
Yeah she's popular no doubt because she's kinda a role model for young people....😕 call it luck - x factor and the fact people like young & fresh faces in India...
In LAK she was okayish...In OSO she was also ok..
And unlike some IF members I think an actor (MALE or FEMALE) needs to be good at the very start..the audience doesn't need to give them time....because if I'm not mistaken they don't give us TIME (days, months, years) to pay the ticket to enter the theaters...😃
I think it's always nice to watch some newcomers actors from all over the world to make relevant comparisons...and one can realize to which extent some indian actresses are laughable in terms of acting 😭..... But if the audience doesn't mind...so the audience is king....
I think Deepika is an average performer but in India - acting skills is required only for male actors not so much for female actors (except when you don't have no "natural" glam quotient like Vidya, Rani, Kajol ---- and so on)..so I guess it's fine...it's not like if she was the ONLY who couldn't deliver a moving & powerful performance - all the top actresses have huge issues to be constant performer..🥱 and not only the top actresses - even the good actresses in India are unconstant at times and it's quite disturbing...like if they forgot to act properly😕
I guess after Sweetu Ranbir dumped her - she gained sympathy....the fact she kept a dignified silence about her ex BF was quite elegant....
Her relationship with Ranbir and all the rumors about the Fashionista kept Deepika in the news..so she had publicity professionally and personally....am not even talking about all the launches of products she endorses...😳

Well I'm kinda confused... I guess she did get that helping hand from SRK but later she chose her films and ads that she wanted to do on her own. But honestly what is the X factor which I don't see that everyone is talking about?

I don't think so. She's popular because of what she is. Maybe not the best actress but she's charming, graceful, her face lights up the screen and I love watching her dance. Also realistically speaking, does anyone need to be a good actor/actress to become popular? No of course.

i think if an actor is talented then be it now or later the person will get success, for deepkia, it was a good chance coz she got to work with SRK, but then from afterwards, he talent will take her in future, and she is doing good work
