Do you really think Anushka put her film career on hold for her education? lol That is pretty naive. She just didnt capture the imagination of the film makers like Deepika did. What about Mugdha? or Sonam even? Good actress or not, Good PR or not she is what she is by her own making.(A PR firm btw is paid to keep the star in the limelight - so I dont understand why they would delibrately keep someone out of i)t . She made smart decisions and she is now considered one of the top stars of Bollywood. Just like Aishwarya and Katrina before her girls will keep opening threads such as these which IMO are just meant to find things negative and feel happy that they are right in thinking that these stars do not deserve the attention that they do. Bust is anything going to change ? nope. If she was aone hit wonder she would have disappered soon after OSO. She has the X factor and will stay on for a few years if not more. btw I have nothing against Anushka - she is really sweet and I hope her next movie is a huge hit. And it certainly is not her fault that she didnt taste fame like Deepika did after OSO. She danced well and acted well and looked pretty but hey what can one do Lady Luck like fame is fickle.

Deepika and her popularity fails to amuse me. I dont hate her, but clearly i dont really like her either. She reminds me of a terribly famous actress of the early 90's, Mamta Kulkarni. In her first movie, Tirangaa, mamta debuted opposite rajkumar, a superstar in his own right. The film was a huge success, and Mamta was given the best debutante award at Filmfare and even touted as the next big thing. In her initial years, she was a popular heroine, because of the kind of films she was doing...stuff with mass appeal. but then over the years she was getting a bit too predictable, a lot more boring. Just when she took note of her fading popularity, she appeared topless on Stardust. Great controversy, Greater publicity. but that is exactly what she had intended. her so called 'mass-appeal' was somewhat falling back into place. However, the mass appeal, was still not good enough for the box office. She tried engaging in a lot more controversies, and instead of creating a sex symbol image, created a tacky image, even amongst the masses. Even though she was the most glamorous, sexy and prettiest actresses of her era, her career was going nowhere. Her mentor, RajKumar Santoshi suggested that she tried roles with substance, which she eventually did, but flopping badly everytime. Her mass appeal, and her constant effort to 'fit-in' could only take her so far. She was meant to retire. So ya, i do find deepika very similar to mamta in many ways.

Yes, that is why i said it's not fair to compare Anushkha (and other's) to Deepika, because she was already in the limelight before OSO was released.

I never said that Farah/SRK cast her because of her previous popularity. No idea where you got that from, but for whatever reasons they cast herm they got what they wanted.

To be honest, i don't know that much about Anuskha's education, that is why i said like someone posted before me. But no i don't think its naive to think that Anushka put her career on hold, everyone has different priorities and want to achieve different things in their own life, so maybe yes just maybe Anushka wanted to do that.

As for Mugdha and Sonam, ermm i don't think Mugdha's debut was 'her' solo debut, and as for Sonam, she didn't have the popularity before Saawariya released that Deepika had before OSO.

Thank you for informing me on how a PR firm works, i really needed that lol But PR and management does make a big diffference. Perhaps Anushka's PR and management are not pushing her enough because she isn't as big as Deepika yet? She's still very new compared to Deepika.

You got a point there. Actresses who debut with SRk seem to get famous and I disagree with the person who said Anushka's is not popular. She has a lot fans and I was suprised. I was like this girl did only one movie and she wasn't even that awesome whatz up with all the fans? LOL

Don't get me wrong I think Deepika has potential but debuting with SRK in OSO did help her. but then she was also good in OSO. To be honest i find Deepika a better actress than katrina and even priyanka chopara. Deepika is a natural actresses.

The illogical contributions in this thread makes me want to defend Deepika....which is pretty strange because I don't like the girl at all. Her acting makes me want to pull my hair out and the dialogue delivery is so aweful, my ears want to bleed out. BUT the fact is she is popular, she is the chosen one and there's nothing anybody can do about it.

As for Deepika and Anushka that's a pretty fair comparision BECAUSE THE OP CLEARLY BASED HIS/HER ENTIRE ARGUMENT ON SRK'S ROLE IN DEEPIKA'S POPULARITY.

Sorry for all caps but I don't understand how people clearly failed to take that into account. The OP clearly talks about SRK's role. Based on that, I think it is absolutely fair to compare her to other actresses who debuted with SRK. If the OP had started his/her argument saying:

"Deepika is popular because she was a famous model before".

Then I would have used Lara Dutta's example or Bipasha Basu's example not Anushka's or Gayatri Joshi's. Because despite ruling the ramp for several years, Lara and Bipasha are not as popular as Deepika.

For the record, I happen to like Bipasha but Deepika is clearly the popular one right now.

Sorry if I am sceptical of Anushka putting her film career for her education bit. This is the first time I am hearing about it. If she really did that good for her.

All I am saying is that all of them had equal opportunities - its not fair to say that only Deepika manipulates the media to her advantage. Nothing is stopping the others from doing the same, and getting the same advantage. None of the girls are "angelic oh I dont know anything about the big bad world" types. They are all cut throat competitors. We only see the image that their PR potrays for us.

btw Anushka will always be "new" compared to Deepika. When was RNBDJ released ?

You're not the only one. I don't know anything about Anushka's "education over films" motto either. Not sure where all the fans come up with all their wild ideas. As far as I know, when Anuska signed RNBDJ, she did a 3 film deal contract with YRF one of which is badmash company. So how in the blazing hell did she put her "3 film deal contract on hold" while she was studying or whatever the heck she was doing. Whoever came up with that hyperactive imagination please provide the link and source of your information.

BTW while "we're" giving all the credit to SRK for Deepika's success, what about the other thandi queen Asin. Aamir has the same box office power SRK does, actually even greater seeing how all his movies hit the jackpot. So yea, why isn't Asin's popularity anywhere close to Deepika's?????? Both debuted with actors with the highest box office pull, why is one popular over the other.
