Hall owners undecided over MNIK release
Multiplex owners in Mumbai are meeting on Friday to take a final call on the release of Shah Rukh Khan starrer My Name is Khan after Shiv Sena threatened to disrupt its screening, protesting the actor's remarks favouring inclusion of Pakistani players in IPL-3.

Senior VP (Corporate communications) Cinemax Girish Wankhede, told PTI that multiplex owners will meet to take a decision on the release.

However, several single screens have decided against the release till the issue is resolved between the Sena and the actor.

On Thursday, multiplex owners had said that they were yet undecided on the release and were reviewing the security situation constantly.

"Release at this juncture is risky. Our patrons would not like to come to watch a film where police- Shiv Sena stand off was likely," a Fun Cinema official had said.

Over 1800 Sena activists, including functionaries, have been arrested in the last three days to thwart protests by the Sena, which is demanding Shah Rukh apologise for his

remarks favouring Pakistani players in IPL-3.

Bajrang Dal activists resorted to vandalism in Ahmedabad over the film's release. They tore posters of Shah Rukh at Ashram road in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Dozens of VHP and Bajrang Dal activists have been detained by police for disruption city gold multiplex in Ahmedabad

Meanwhile, alleged ShivSena activists also attacked a Delhi cinema hall that was to show MNIK on Thursday.

The incidents are taking place even as 63 theatres and multiplexes in Mumbai have been provided protection.

Approximately 11,000 Mumbai policemen are patrolling sensitive areas.

Additional force of approximately 600 SRPF jawans will secure theaters in Sena strongholds.

Uniformed policemen have been deployed outside cinema halls and plain clothes policemen inside the halls.

Over 1800 Shiv Sainks have already been taken into preventive detention.

In Gujarat, they are also saying to not watch MNIK because it's against hindus or something. WTF? So WHAT if the movie is based on a Muslim issue? Have we not seen SRK play all those Rahuls, Rajs for YEARS? All his life, he's played hindu characters. For once he does something Islam related, people have gone nuts.

Even in Veer Zara, he played the Hindu role and Preity the muslim one, when it was supposed to be the opp..

This is really ridiculous.. Cricket, Politics and Bollywood -- these three are said to be the HOTTEST topics in India.. As this whole issue involves all three of them, it's become such an over-rated, pathetically over-hyped incident.. 🤢

So if SRK goes and says sorry and retracts his statement will it be ok.
But why is movie targetted .Y terrorise multiplexes and public? Make the sentiments clear abt what he said and leave it to public to decide.SRk voiced his opinion so do the same with out dhamkis or force.
Dont force public to obey .Then it is dictatorship.
I am not a SRK fan neither am a sena suporter.I am talking on behalf of common people. Please dont take the right to choose away from them.

Reading the past comments, I came across this, and this one I managed to comprehend. The rest of the articles and happenings at the moment have just gotten too bizarre and political for me to even comprehend it.
Democratic ideals is just not being followed here when it comes to US, the common folks. Some people just do not wish to be involved in the recent happenings, and would just want to view entertainment. Why take away that inherent right away from them? I just don't know why the Senas are bent on terrorizing their own countrymen. *shakes head*

😆😆😆
Smoking kills, and so does religion. Very random analogy.
India is smart, and I hope we can differentiate between fiction and non fiction by now. K-Jo is way too smart to play with religion in any way in such sensitive times.

'MNIK' Opens to Packed Houses in Kolkata, Fans Burn Thackeray's Effigy

Posted by Vamban on Feb 12th, 2010 13:01:01 and filed under Entertainment, National. ShareThis

Kolkata, Feb 12 – Angry fans burnt effigies of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray in several parts of the city as cine buffs queued up outside ticket counters in Kolkata and elsewhere in West Bengal to watch Shah Rukh Khan's 'My Name Is Khan' on the opening day Friday.

Several Shah Rukh Khan fan clubs led the protests against Thackeray before theatres at various points in the city, protesting against the Shiv Sena's bid to scuttle the movie's release. The movie has been released in over 130 theatres and multiplexes in eastern India.

They demanded that Shiv Sena bosses watch the movie before spreading hatred against it.

'Only a few front row seats for the evening shows are still left. For the late evening and night shows also only a handful of tickets remain unsold so far,' an executive at the multiplex chain Forum told IANS around noon.

As movie buffs queued up before ticket counters of mutiplexes and singe-screen theatres in the city, Shah Rukh admirers came with his garlanded posters and offered coconuts to wish the film an auspicious run.

'I have got tickets for two shows, one in the morning, and another in the afternoon. I will spend the day with SRK today (Friday),' said Subhas Pal, who seemed thrilled at Kajol and SRK pairing up on-screen after eight years.

'This is the best movie of SRK till date. It's very sensitive. Both Shah Rukh and Kajol were brilliant,' said Anindya Sen, a youth from south Kolkata, as he came out of a multiplex after the morning show.

'I didn't find a single objectionable scene or dialogue in the film. It's great,' said Rupashree Chatterjee, during the interval of a show in a south Kolkata multiplex.

The Shiv Sena has come out against the release of 'My Name is Khan' after Shah Rukh refused to apologise for suggesting that Pakistani cricketers should have been picked for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).
