Jaya Bachchan was once again caught in an awkward moment with the paparazzi, a scenario that has now become almost routine. The incident took place on Tuesday evening in Mumbai, where she attended the prayer meet of late filmmaker Rono Mukherjee. Several well-known faces from the film industry, including Kajol and Shweta Bachchan, were also seen at the gathering.
As Jaya stepped out of the building alongside Rono's son, actor Samrat Mukherjee, the paparazzi swarmed around to capture visuals. Visibly annoyed, Jaya turned to Samrat and asked in Bengali, “Eder kano daako?” (Why do you ask them to come?). To which Samrat promptly replied, “Aami daakini” (I didn’t call them).
Her frustration didn’t end there. While waiting for her car with daughter Shweta Bachchan, she mockingly invited the photographers, saying, “Chaliye aap log bhi saath mein. Aajaiyye” (Come with us. Do come). She then muttered under her breath, “Bakwas sab, gande gande se sab” (All nonsense, so dirty).
This isn’t the first time Jaya has made headlines for expressing her displeasure with media behaviour. Over the years, she’s built a reputation for not mincing words when it comes to photographers. Whether it was asking shutterbugs to lower their voices at The Archies premiere or telling them off at Hema Malini’s birthday party for giving too many directions, her stern reactions often go viral.
Despite the constant media attention and controversy around her public reactions, Jaya Bachchan remains an iconic presence in the industry. Most recently, she was seen playing a strong matriarch in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, where her performance was widely appreciated.
The prayer meet was held in memory of Rono Mukherjee, known for films like Haiwan (1977) and Tu Hi Meri Zindagi (1965). He passed away last week due to cardiac arrest. Rono was the eldest of the Mukherjee brothers and was related to several Bollywood personalities including Kajol, Rani Mukerji, Ayan Mukerji, and Tanishaa Mukerji.
