Shah Rukh Khan apologises, but only to fans

[B]Updated on Friday, February 12, 2010, 15:58 IST
Spicezee Bureau[B]

Mumbai: Believe it or not, but superstar Shah Rukh Khan has come up with an 'apology', but it's not meant for the Sena goons. SRK, in his latest tweet, has thanked the audience for appreciating his latest release 'My Name Is Khan', which got a limited opening in the city on Friday. Also, as a part of his Twitter message, the actor has apologised to his fans for 'giving stress over the last few days'.

"I thank u all for this…apologise for giving stress over the last few days...& now truly know the meaning of being humbled. lov u all so much," reads SRK's latest post on the social networking site.

Despite the ongoing Shiv Sena rampage in Mumbai, all major multiplexes in the city have opened counters for bookings and screening of the Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'MNIK'. 10 multiplex owners in Mumbai have decided to go ahead with the screening while the single screen theatres have decided against showing the movie for the time being, fearing violence.

In a meeting early on Friday, three big multiplexes – Adlabs, Cinemax and Fun Republic - had decided to release the movie at one screen each in Mumbai. And now, the film is running to full houses at INOX and FUN Cinemas here. Apart from these, three multiplexes, one cinema in Nagpur, have also decided to go ahead with the release of the movie, but for rest of the state, it's going to be a 'no show' as of now.

Nevertheless, the film opened to full houses in Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai and several other cities. "Post noon shows were all sold out in our theatres in Delhi. We are booked till Sunday," Jayendra Banerjee, Vice President Satyam Cineplexes said.

"Some 75 screens in Delhi and NCR are screening the movie. The film has also benefited from the Shivratri holiday today. On an average multiplexes are running 11 to 12 shows a day," a distributor said.

It's not everyone's gain....atleast not SS '😆 People are burning their effigies in Kolkatta and Delhi, police are beating them up, people bashing them. I'm happy, such an embarassment for SS.
Mumbai still hasnt opened in full quantity. Or atleast hadnt until afternoon. Wonder if they've opened more shows now.

Overwhelming Opening of MNIK in India, UK, NZ, Aus

Overwhelming opening of MNIK :)

New Delhi: The message of ''love and compassion'' spread by this Khan seems to have triumphed over hatered with Karan Johar's 'My Name Is Khan' getting a overwhelming opening across the country and abroad where it shattered records in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

Initial resports from across the country show that despite the limited release for the Shah Rukh Khan Kajol-starrer in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra, 'My Name Is Khan' fetched a ''near full house'' opening at cinema halls in various parts of the country.

Says film analyst Taran Adarsh, ''My Name Is Khan had a deafening start at practically every centre, with practically every multiplex generating 100 per cent collections.

Single screens in metros and small towns and cities also opened to a 70-80 per cent response, which is very, very good in terms of trade figures.

''Humungous -- that's the right word to describe the initial response to 'MNIK',''the analyst said.

In fact, at a major theatre in Delhi, the audiences heralded the arrival of the film with 'band-bajaa' and by bursting crackers, trade sources revealed. Outside a theatre in Patna, a cinegoer distributed roses to cinegoers who had come to watch the film. Trades sources said there has been a mad scramble to book the tickets at many places.

In fact, theatres in several cities have reported that tickets for the entire weekend have already been sold out.
They feel that the film is expected to set theatre, city and district records at most centres. They feel that despite the Mumbai release getting affected, the film is likely to have a solid, record-breaking Friday, in terms of box-office numbers.

Adarsh said the film had broken records in overseas markets as well. It has had a record opening day collections in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

In UK, 'MNIK' previewed on Thursday night with approximately 123,000 British Pounds from 89 sites. The film opened fourth in the market place, behind 'Avtar', 'The Wolfman' and 'Invictus'.

In Australia, on its opening day, 'MNIK' grossed 39,000 Australian Dollars. The movie is ranked at number 11 in the market. According to Fox Star Studios, which are presenting the film in the US and other overseas markets, the opening day collections of 'MNIK' are bigger than that of '3 Idiots'.

In New Zealand and 'Fiji', the film collected 13,627 NZ Dollars on its opening day. It ranked number seven at the box-office. The overwhelming box office response to the film comes even as it has got rave reviews from film critics in India and abroad.
