DDLJ was sort of inspired by HAHK. Anyway if gossips are to be believed Adi stole the script so it would not really be his original script.

I think the early movies were only original ones !! then in the 80s-90s the actual script stealing started from the hollywood movies !! Then it became a trend !! If you watch Dharmendras superman the producer in bollywood even took the scenes from the original and put in the movie !!

DDLJ was not original. It was a melting pot of old/80s-90s hollywood-70s bollywood movies. Besides, the Chopras stole the script from Honey Irani (Farhan's mom) and did not give her any credit which inevitably caused a strain in Farhan-Uday's friendship. Farhan said the Akshaye-Amir feud angle in DCH was sort of inspired from his and Uday's real life misunderstanding/feud.

From recent flicks, was Welcome to Sajjanpur original?

^ I don't know of any other "source" where Welcome to Sajjanpur could have come from. And yes DDLJ was a slightly changed version of Honey Irani's script.

Another thing I heard about YRF was that Bunty aur Babli and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom were at one point ONE script. Shaad Ali rehashed the original and turned it into two films, but some connections remained - cons, Rakesh (Abhishek's character), train stations.

The original writers did not get any credit or money for either film. This is one of the major reasons for Anurag Kashyap's anger against YRF. Though I don't remember how exactly he was involved but he mentioned the incident on his blog.

Taare Zameen Par is an original story, but the more interesting part of the film is how Aamir took over from Amol Gupte as director.

Don't know about K3G, but apparently there are some similarities between Rang De Basanti and a film called Jesus de Montreal

Bollywood was always inspired from Hollywood and French films. Almost all Raj Kapoor movies are "inspired". Even the female actors copied styles of then Hollywood actors.

The comedies of Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee are almost all "inspired" by Hollywood and regional cinema by slight changes.

Vishal Bharadwaj's Omkara is a copy of Malayalam National Award winning film 'Kaliyattam' which was of course inspired by Othello.

Also many "intellectual" directors actually copy from Iranian, Polish and lesser known films and changes it into an arty movie and gain accolades from the audience who are used to seeing regular Bollywood flicks.

Ahhh yes, I have an axe to grind with those self proclaimed "intellectual" directors. 😕 😆 Khamoshi was my favorite SLB film until I found out it was copied almost scene by scene from Beyond Silence, a German movie. 😕
