What is the point of the Step Mom Remake?

So I heard that KJo's remake of the film will be set in Australia.

This is the article that talks about the film being shot in Sydney:
https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/bollywood/1278779/karan-johars-stepmom-remake-to-be-shot-in-sydne

I am wondering what is the point of making an Indian remake of an American film and not even setting it in India?

As far as I know people get divorced in India, parents share custody often and people do get cancer. What exactly about this film demands a foreign location?

I am not a fan of the original film, but perhaps it would have been interesting to see how the same issues would play out in an Indian context. By setting the film in Sydney, I think Dharma is crushing any chances of actually adding anything unique to the original.

Which brings me to: What is the point of this remake?

There's no point especially because every 1 out of 5 (my guess not a statiscs...so don't jump on the bandwagon yet...)Indian has probably watched a Julia Roberts movie if any hollywood flick. Whats the point of watching a rehashed version of an already crappy movie??????????

Oh it was definitely popular in India. Stepmom was shown on Star Movies a lot. And I am sure most people who would watch the remake have already seen the original.

And yes the original was bad, so at this point this film looks like a dud as well.

Step mom in an indian setting would have required the whole story to be changed...divorced man with kids would have his mama looking after them not his girlfriend😆...
but seriously tho'who wants to see yet another movie set outside India...who are these NRIs depicted in the movies anyway...i am yet to see them...either they are the richierich's who live in mansions or they are the FOB types with a comical accent and oiled hair...whatever happened to good ol ppl like us who have normal lives living abroad??😆

yup true that
but basically the main point of making this remake is MONEY, Kjo will glamorized it, and indianize, add millions of senti emotions...and try to make everyone cry,AND make money while he is at it. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED😆

Not necessarily. I know people who have been divorced and not remarried but they have their partners spend time with the kids. Especially in metros today people's attitudes have changed a lot. I think the whole Indian audience isn't used to it or it doesn't make sense for this to happen in India is just an excuse.

It is the same reasoning KJo used for setting KANK in the US. So adultery doesn't happen in India?

Well its Kjo what else do we expect.

I have a feeling this is going to be another over the top movie of Kjo with Kareena polaying a top model or photographer along the likes of Pooh or her KI role.

The point of making a Step Mom Remake...?mmmm Let's think about it 3 seconds...mmmm Making money very easy may sound as a relevant answer....😵
Kjo just brings back hot topics : adultery, broken and re patched up families......just before shooting the desi version of BrokeB moutain.....😃
Then Dostana 2......😆
Doing a movie is an investment, the purpose of an investment is to generate more money as invested previously....
Desi step mom isn't a meaningful project, the J.Roberts S.Sarandon version is already an adaptation/version from the original book...so Kjo will do an adaptation from an adapted movie from a book.....

well i dont know why he did that. But truly it dusnt make sense. I guess maybe because most of his movies are in foreign locations.
i think the original one was pretty gud..

Has KJo set any of his movies in India (other than KKHH)?

I honestly feel he's so interested and involved in cultures/traditions outside of India that he's lost track of what India really is. India has evolved too, and things happen here that happen elsewhere, but he's too blind to notice it. He'll continue living in oblivion and think such things happen only outside of India, so he'll continue making more melodramatic films.
