Wake up Sid! is one heck of a movie.
I watched it today first day first show n loved it to bits.
Great acting by ranbir kapoor n konkona sen sharma.
Ranbir kapoor luks really cute, bacha-bacha cute.
The concept ws very well set and Rensil D'Silav did a very gud job.
Kudos to him.
And being a karan johar production, it had got to be gud.
The thing abt the character sid is, that it wuld connect with ppl like us, the youth.
Most of the times, we do not knw what we're gonna do in life n still remain a kid and then later, face the consequences.
Similar is with sid, he remains a kid and when he *attention! spoiler!* fails the exam, he's askd to leave the house n ultimately, he faces the consequences with aisha (konkona) who he met at the farewell party held before d results.
The thing that dint click ws the end.
It was nice and good but i felt sumthing missing, as if there shuld b sumthing more.

As if something els ws needed in the ending, it wsnt that satisfying.
The songs were a blast, the acting superb n the movie ws refreshing.
I would love to add in more of my views bt then it would be called a spoiler.
On an overall average, with the songs, acting, story, etc. i would give it a 3.5/5.

Do watch it! 👍🏼
Do not miss such a great movie.
Love,
Nimisha

MOVIE REVIEW: Wake Up Sid (2009)

October 2nd, 2009 - 6:12 pm ICT by sampurn -

Wake Up Sid: Innovatively handled

Rating: 3 out of 5*

Starring: Ranbir Kapoor, Konkona Sen Sharma, Anupam Kher, Supriya Pathak and Rahul Khanna in a Sp App.

Director: Ayan Mukherjee

Siddhartha ka Sid Mehra (Ranbir) is an aimless youngster just out of college. Laid back Sid is completely disinterested in joining his flourishing family business of bathroom fittings. He continues to enjoy all the perks of a rich spoilt brat thanks to his lenient parents (Anupam and Supriya). At his college farewell bash, he meets a "new girl in the city' Aisha (Konkona). Around seven years older to him in age, Aisha has arrived from Kolkata to become a writer. They gradually become good friends and he even helps her in settling down in her newly rented flat. However, all hell breaks lose in Sid's life when he fails in his graduation exams. He has a tiff with best friend since childhood. When his father confronts him over his rude behaviour with his mom, in a fit of rage Sid leaves his house forever. He heads straight to Aisha's flat. Both start staying together with an understanding they are just friends and nothing else. Anyways, Aisha considers Sid not her type since according to her he is still a boy and not a "man' yet. As days pass by Sid's non disciplinary behaviour starts grating on Aisha's nerves. But Sid mends his ways faster and thus begins his journey from a boy to becoming a man.

Debutante writer-director Ayan Mukherjee in his first attempt has managed to strike a chord with the youngsters and their parents alike. Many wonderfully written, handled and enacted sequences leave you mightily impressed, teary eyed and even laughing out loud at times. Be it Ranbir's tiff with his mother, his breakdown on arrival at Konkona's doorsteps, Konkona's interview with her magazine editor played by Rahul Khanna, Konkona lashing out Ranbir on making a mess of her house and the sequences following it, Ranbir meeting his father after he gets his first paycheck. There is no heavy duty sermonizing in the film and the lingo used is fairly relatable. Though most of the times the film succeeds in remaining realistic, certain solutions connected to Ranbir appear to simplistic. Also, you sense it from a mile away that the two good friends are finally end up falling for each other even though they keep on denying this fact to themselves and others around them.

Music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is fresh but Dev.D composer Amit Trivedi one song in the film "Ektaara' is the one you come out humming. It has been wonderfully mixed in the narrative.

Ranbir has delivered one of his finest performances and has succeeded in showing the gradual change in his character. Konkona plays the perfect opposite to his character and suits the role to the T. Their awkward chemistry is likeable. Rahul Khanna in a small role leaves his mark. His expressions reveal a lot when Konkona admits she hates Jazz. The actors playing Ranbir's friends are very good. Veterans Anupam Kher and Supriya Pathak are wonderful. New girl Kainaz Motivala playing Ranbir's colleague is very impressive.

Watch it for the innovative handling of the subject by debutante director and some really good performances by every single cast member.

Review: Ranbir gives his best performance with 'Wake Up Sid!'
Updated on Friday, October 02, 2009, 16:09 IST
Spicezee Bureau

Directed by Ayan Mukherji, 'Wake Up Sid!' is a story about today's generation. The age of 'young and the restless' who are lost in their own dreamland that crumbles with the single touch of harsh reality. And yes, this reality does bite and is actually what happens to our hero Sid Mehra (Ranbir Kapoor), whose world turns topsy-turvy once he comes in terms with the outside world.

'Wake Up Sid!' is an essentially Ranbir film where the actor portrays the role of a rich spoilt brat with great lan. A rude youngster, who shares a complicated experience with his parents, Sid is a typical college guy who loves living life kind size. Leading a careless life, Sid's journey towards self-discovery starts when he meets Ayesha (Konkona Sen Sharma) – an older, mature and independent women, who is diametrically opposite of whatever Sid is! Though the two enjoy each other's company, however, when Sid moves with Ayesha, former's life acts as a catalysts in Sid's learning experience.

Well, proximity between Sid and Ayesha does not translate into love; yet, both share a curious relationship that helps Sid in carving out his own identity.

In all, 'Wake Up Sid!' is a Ranbir movie as the actor is successful in pulling off a rich brat's role successfully. Apart from Ranbir, Konkona Sen Sharma is natural when it comes to playing a matured and focused woman while Anupam Kher is convincing when it comes to playing a concerned dad.

A catchy soundtrack adds to the USP of the film, 'Wake Up Sid!' is a sure hit. The college scenes are realistic to the boot and give a rare insight into Mumbai's typical college life. The film is a journey from ignorance to self-discovery of Sid in a gradual buildup with no digression.

In totality, 'Wake Up Sid!' is worth a watch. A true blue movie for every 'young and the restless,' debutant director Ayan Mukherji deserves kudo for making a convincing flick without making it appear hackneyed ('Dil Chahta Hai' or 'Lakshya') and dishing out a refreshingly delightful flick. Enjoy 'Wake Up Sid!' this weekend with popcorns and colas!

Ratings: Four cheers for this one!

Hey Everyone! Since this is my first Review please bear with my English..😆

After a very long time saw a movie in the theatre! And I was not disappointed even for a dull moment..Simply amazing script with good acting from both Ranbir and Konkana..

Ranbir's character of Sid seems like its been written for him only, it has freshness, appeal and situations that the youth from today can definitely relate to.. whether its the 4 cups of coffee before an exam and still going off to sleep after that..lol and then waking up in panic and rushing for the exam and just not knowing what to write in the exam paper and instead daydreaming of what his friend's reactions would be! Whether its the careless attitude of not planning anything with life and just going with the flow and taking every day as it comes.. or the unending urges to have pizza at all times and in the most oddest of places even his dad's private office! The endless partying and fun do bring the youth to relate to the character with ease.. along with the bonding between the friends!

The best scenes have to be the one's where Sid finds out that he amongst his group of friends, he's the only one who doesn't manage to make it! The next few scenes are just too good.. Especially when Sid's dad comes out with all the anger and frustrations that he's been hiding from his son from the past so many days, it all comes out in one rush, taking Sid completely unaware.. The confrontation between them does take the story forward and give a decent plotline to the story!

Konkana on the other hand is known as Aisha Banerjee.. She too is new in Mumbai from Kolkatta to do something new in her life! She yearns independence that she's never had due the overprotectiveness of her parents.. On her very first meeting with Sid she makes sure that she doesn't misguide his feelings.. and the scene between Sid-Aisha is a classic with Sid saying,"But where did I say that I wanna sleep with you.."😆 Over time the friendship between them grows in the form of emails.. He helps her to settle down in Mumbai and she gives him a promise that she will help him whenever he asks her! That promise is made to come across very soon!

Sid and Aisha start living together.. Sid being the guy who's never had to do a single thing in his life and Aisha being the complete perfectionist, begin to find completely different personalities of each other!

Whether its the struggle to just cook an egg for Sid, or the need for Aisha to clean the home as soon as she comes home from work.. Its all got a comical touch attached to it! Simply entertaining to the core..😆

Aisha and Sid falling for each other is quite predictable as usual in Hindi Movies.. Nothing really new to that but its just the situations and circumstances that make it so different!

Some other cast members that add spice to the movie are Supriya Pathak as Sid's fascinated with English mum, Aisha's Jazz loving boss, Aisha's Poha Lady, and most importantly.. Sonia, the neighbour obsessed with everyone's sex lives..😆

All in all a must recommended for everyone paisa vasool movie with awesome acting. It truly makes u realise the worth of every single in life which you tend to take for granted so easily!

Do watch it..

Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Konkona Sen Sharma, Rahul Khanna, Anupam Kher, Supriya Pathak, Namit Das, Shikha Talsania

Director: Ayan Mukherjee

Rating:***

Siddharth Mehra is a good-looking, rich lay-about. He drives his father's expensive cars, flashes plastic at designer stores, and works very hard at partying. The future is very far away ; today is all there is, and it's all about having fun. Aisha Banerjee, new arrival in Mumbai, is everything he's not : she wants to do something, be something, on her own her steam.

'Lassoo' lad, driven lass : Ayan Mukherjee's debut feature has opposites Ranbir and Konkona attracting in a setting which is borrowed straight out of his producer Karan Johar's idiom. Stylish dcor, zippy lines, and well-dressed people living in Bombay not Mumbai, speaking Hindi which sounds like English : 'isse zyada achcha aur kya ho sakta hai', says the cool editor of a cool city magazine after a jazz riff is over, and you can almost hear the 'what could be better than this' underneath. You fear for unlikely couple Ranbir and Konkona, because when they meet, it's not cute enough: she's older and he's younger ( she keeps calling him a 'bachcha'), and they are much too fraternal for their own good, even when they share the same bed. Individually, both do well. Ranbir is effortlessly charming as the lazy dude with a heart, and Konkona rises a little out of her usual grid. She reads Murakami, he skims through comics, and the twain do not look made for each other. 'Wake Up Sid' succeeds only partly in being a sweet rom com : the false starts, and the too-long period of being 'just good friends' feels real, but you wish there was more going on between the friends-who-turn-into-lovers. Sid and Aisha spark, but only towards the end of the film.

The stand-out part of the film is the supporting cast. The friends that Sid hangs out with are well drawn : the emotional guy ( Namit) who wants to propose to his girl-friend, the fat girl ( Shikha) who makes light of her weight. There's Anupam Kher and Supriya Pathak being the spoilt brat's loving-but-stern dad-and-mom : you marvel at Anupam's ability to play dad in every other film with just that little bit of difference.

Despite the obvious passages, Mukherjee shows he has a way of adding nuance to a scene. 'Wake Up Sid' is a promising first effort.
