The biggest problem for me was that much like the Mumbai Beat office, the film itself is very manicured and glossy. Sid's transformation and the problems that lead to it never feel big or serious enough and everything has a simple and easy solution, and so the film becomes very predictable. Rahul Khanna as Aisha's boss Kabir is so snooty, you know from the first minute that this is the wrong direction for her and that she has to come back to Sid.
After a point the Bombay and Dil Chahta Hai love also got to be too much. At one point Sid even quotes a dialogue from Farhan Akhtar's debut "Usne teri mardangi ko lalkara hai, kya kar raha hai, be a man". It is cute for a second, but then seems like Ayan Mukerji was trying too hard to recreate DCH which really no Indian filmmaker dealing with "coming of age" issues should do.
The film is a pleasant experience while it lasts and the performances go a long way in doing that (especially Ranbir as Sid and the actress playing Laxmi). But not much of it stayed with me after the film was over.
