This is a topic which as been much debated about in the past. I don't have much to comment on Russell Peters' statement but personally I think she is gorgeous and is able to carry some roles to the T. Look at Jodha Akbar for example, she was perfect for that role. She had the substance and the elegance to carry it off well. This has nothing to do with what she is like as a person but many of her films have been a complete flop barring in mind only a few which have worked at the box office. So I doubt it is only her looks that makes her work. Where she had done good acting e.g Jodha Akbar and Guru, the films have worked.

Firstly thats such a typical view of asian men abroad not all but i know men in my family think like that sometimes i feel like screaming try watching the movies before you judge!

Anyways as for ash i might not like her as a person how she comes across but i think as a actor shes really good to be honest .

Then how does he know about Aishwarya's acting? He is entitled to his opinion. I think Aishwarya is just like any other actor in Bollywood.

I agree with the earlier post - I notice this a lot amongst the young men of Indian origin - they act as tho they hate bollywood but then are the first to air their opinion about how bad the Indian movies are.
How can they form an opinion if they dont watch the movies as they themselves claim to ? Guess they think its hip to pass comments like this guy does.

Its not about being hip or not. Bollywood movies don't really cater to men (I'm not a man, but I know)........sometimes they don't even cater to women (you know the sensible ones). They are mostly candyfloss movies. Bollywood hardly dishes out slasher flicks like SAW series or thrillers or horror or sci-fi THAT IS OF ANY QUALITY. They call movies like "LV 2050" sci fi (yeah right!) and call horshit like tashan action......(yea sure).
Bollywood is all about melodramtic cheesy love stories. Most men don't like this, therefore they voice out their dislikes. What's so hip about not genuinely liking something and then giving your opinion about it? I don't see anything hip about it, all I see is honesty.
On topic, I don't think Aishwarya is a great actress. She has disappointed me many times and I'm convinced she CANNOT do a full-fledged masala role WITHOUT overacting.
HOWEVER......she is a pretty damn good actress when it comes to off-bit and subtle roles. Taal, HDDCS, raincoat, choker bali.....prove that.

um he is entitled to his opinion...but BEFORE he says anything about Aish's acting he better check out movies like Taal,D2,Jodha Akbar and Choker Bali and Guru,HDDCS, where Aish has given phenomenal performances!
I seriously think Aish is a gorgeous woman who can act decently if the roles are good in front of her....
and ABCD's like him need to stop sayingstupid about Bollywood and stick to their own stuff

^^^I don't think him being a socalled 'ABCD' has anything to do with it. Alot of men outside and in India dislike bollywood films because as someone else said it doesn't always cater for them.

It's not like his comments are going to affect Aishwarya, she's a strong women with alot of producers/directors chasing her for her beauty and talent.

Shes a gorgeous woman, but a bad actress...not so much bad, but unable to be versatile...I mean she cant compare to the likes of Shridevi, Madhuri, Kajol or Rani...
She is beautiful though...
And Russel Peters is an idiot. Has he seen recent films like TZP or Black? What a doofus. Her acting depends on the director...Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Subhash Ghai, Ahutosh Gowarikar and Mani Ratnam have been able to get the best out of her. Other than that, she honestly just a prop in Bollywood.
Shes given some good performances in HDDCS, Devdas, Guru, Jodhaa Akbar and Taal...
