ankhiyon se goli mare: Rakhi Sawant takes aim during the shooting task assigned to the residents of Bigg Boss
< id=parentid1 name=parentid1> < id=idd1 name=idd1>

The military regime imposed in the Bigg Boss house finally comes to an end today.
There's no more dressing up in army fatigues, no more running out into the garden area with rifles to shoot randomly in the air at the sound of the siren, and no more discipline with regards to cutting and peeling an insane amount of potatoes in less than an hour, reports Sowmya Rajaram.
Left Right Left, definitely one of the more exacting tasks for the inhabitants is over today. But not before they are given another task to perform.
All the jawans are given a bull's eye task where they have to shoot at a target with guns. If they succeeded in hitting it four out of 12 times, they would have completed the task properly.
Our celebrities, however, fail miserably at hitting the centre spot. None except Rahul manages to hit the target. Roopali makes an unlikely close hit, but that is about it. Looks like it is going to be a tough week for everybody now, with not too many groceries to use in the kitchen. sowmya.rajaram@mid-day.com

Aryan's close brush with death on Christmas night
Saturday, December 30, 2006 10:19 [IST]

A fun cruise in Mumbai's inviting sea on Christmas night almost cost Aryan Vaid his life. Shivering at the memory, Aryan told IANS: "Anupama (Verma) and I along with other friends decided to go out into the sea in little boats. It seemed like a fun idea. And it was. With Anupama and my friends for company, I had never felt better."

The catastrophe happened when Aryan was changing boats.

"We all were supposed to get out of the small boats and into a big one. I had one foot in one boat and the other in the bigger boat, when the big boat moved. Before I knew, I was in the water sinking downwards."

Didn't Aryan know how to swim?

"Of course, I can swim! But have you tried swimming in that deep water at four in the morning with your clothes and boots on and your mobile in your hand? My phone immediately slipped out of my hand and I've lost all my numbers. But at that time it was the least of my worries. All I could think of was how to get out of the water."

After a tense five-minutes wait for Anupama and his friends, Aryan finally swam back to safety.

"My friends didn't know what to do. It was the most horrifying experience of our lives. And it wasn't as if I was drunk or anything. I was absolutely sober, not a drop of alcohol inside me," said Aryan who sees this as his rebirth.

He also thanks "Bigg Boss", Sony TV's game show, for renewing his career.

"'Bigg Boss' has given a renewed recognition. And, hopefully, 2007 will bring lots of changes in my life.

"On my career front I've Anil Sharma's 'Apne' where I play the main villain opposite Deols (Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby)."

Aryan learnt kickboxing from a trainer from Hong Kong to prepare for the role.

"On the personal front, love is very much in the air. But I need to convince Anupama that she's my true love. Unfortunately, my reputation has reached her long before I did," rued Aryan.

Rakhi Sawant, the item gal of 2007!
by Debasis Jana

This year Rakhi Sawant did an item number in Priyadarshan's film 'Malamaal Weekly' which is a hot one.

In fact Rakhi started her career as an item gal in a remix video.

And the hit number 'Mohabbat Hai Mirchi' from film 'Chura Liya Hai Tumne' has almost immortalized her as an item gal.

Item gal-turned-actress Malaika Arora Khan said the year 2007 will be of Rakhi Sawant as a hot item gal.

"She is too hot and entertaining," opined Malaika.

Shilpa Shetty believes that as far as item girls go, everyone is a far second to Rakhi

"A lot depends on the song and public appreciation. But still, on the basis of past performances, I will say Rakhi Sawant. She's the only one who has captured the public imagination," said Shilpa.

Besides having the body and the moves, Rakhi has one added charm – the promise of unexpected entertainment.

Model-turned-item gal Shefali Zariwala has no other thought.

"She is a great dancer and knows how to pull off all those raunchy moves. She is also a very well-maintained, which is very important thing for an item girl," said Shefali.

However as per Rakhi Sawant is concerned, personally she wants to change her hot image in 2007.

As per latest Rakhi has signed a comedy 'Buddha Mar Gaya', where Rakhi will play a tailor-made role that requires no oomph, only chutzpah.

You believe or not, in this film, which will go on floor in Jan 2007, will have no item songs for Rakhi.

The evicted 'Bigg Boss' participant is glad to have completed his assignment with honesty

Sumita Bagchi

What's the real atmosphere inside?
It's difficult. We're supposed to carry out mundane chores including sweeping, using the ration carefully and cleaning. It wasn't cool being with the same people all day. It's not as negative as it appears. Some emotions are real, while some are faked.

Why was your exit so quick?
I was the new person in the old lot. They were insecure about me. They didn't bond with me. So what would they share with me?

Who do you think nominated you?
Rahul (Roy), Ravi (Kishen), Rupali (Ganguly) and Carol (Gracis).

Whom did you bond most with?
Rakhi (Sawant) and Ravi! I was close to all in different ways.

Are you happy to be evicted?
I was happy inside and am happy outside. It was an assignment I did honestly. Now, I want to have dinner with my family.

Whom would you want to nominate?
Amit (Sadh)! He's madly in love with his girlfriend.

Baba to rap up

Baba Sehgal is ousted from Bigg Boss

Back to Section Stories

Kunal M Shah

Boss tired of baba-sitting? Baba Sehgal on his way out from the Bigg Boss house

Rap star Baba Sehgal is the latest participant to get out of the Bigg Boss house today. The ever singing and laughing Baba was not his usual self last week and now that he is out of the house he says, "I think it was a top of the world experience for me and it was great to be on the show. I know people are talking about the 24 x 7 cameras and stuff but I think the arrangements in the house were outstanding. It was a pleasure staying in the house. I think the most important thing that I have learnt from staying in the Bigg Boss house is that, one can definitely survive without newspapers, phone and television."

Baba, however, adds, "But mind you, it is not an easy task to stay completely away from everyday life as we have known it and hats off to everyone inside the house. The atmosphere inside the house was becoming very insecure for everyone and everyone was insecure of the other person. I had never met any of these people before except Ravi Kishen whom I had met only once before I entered the Bigg Boss house. But the interesting fact is that everyone had taken up a role, while Rahul was the kadva chai, Ravi is the hero and Amit is always crying. But I think the best among all these was Ragini, as she was unbiased and was not on anyone's side. She has done a lot of creative things inside. I think she is a fantastic human being."

The audience saw everyone breaking down and bitching about each other. But Baba never bad-mouthed anyone. Baba explains, "I have a lot of control over my emotions and I will never break down so easily. I have seen many ups and downs in my life. Secondly, I never wanted to be a part of the bitching sessions and I just heard what everyone had to say. But I never wanted to be a party to it as you all must have seen."

When asked about who he thinks will finally win Baba says, "I personally think that Rahul Roy or Rakhi will win but even Ravi and Roopali are very strong contenders."

M-ad campaign?

Amit Sadh becomes hysterical, shrink summoned to calm him down

Back to Section Stories

Subhash K Jha

Help! Amit Sadh
On Friday afternoon after Baba Sehgal was eliminated from Bigg Boss there was a massive confusion on location in Karjat on the outskirts of Mumbai where the participants have been stationed for over 50 days.

The show's youngest recruit, TVstar Amit Sadh, had an acute attack of hysteria. There was panic and chaos in the house .

Says an eyewitness, "Almost everyone in the house is extremely protective of Amit. They call him Chotu since he's the youngest. And they all love him. That's why everyone panicked collectively when Amit got an attack of hysteria."

Amit's panic attack happened immediately after Baba Sehgal's name was announced for eviction."Amit had his fingers crossed and he was hoping that he'd be out," says the source. "At this point of time, all Amit wants is to be out so he can be with his girlfriend Neeru. She's the only anchor , family and friend he has. And after 50 days in that house Amit can't bear it any longer."

As soon as Baba's name was announced, Amit went into deep depression which turned into pure panic within a short while."A psychiatrist was finally called in to calm down Amit," says the source. "By late afternoon on Friday Amit was still being calmed. But it's quite obvious that he won't be able to spend even one more week in that house."

Bigg Boss Battalion

Laughter, drama, spice, emotions and tension engulf Big Boss. On Tuesday for a difference Big Boss assigned a new task to the inmates of the House. They were to consider themselves as members of the army, dress accordingly, carry rifles and protect their country (the garden of the house) from the invasion of the enemies. In this Baba Sehgal along with Rupaali would be the commanders and the rest of them would be the jawans.

Big Boss provided them with the appropriate military costumes, rifles and hats. Rakhi Sawant not much to our astonishment was sported wearing a uniform double her size, rather too loose for her. Her gawky appearance and strange mannerisms pictured her as the laughing stock in the household. Commander Baba Sehgal asked Jawan Amit to conduct some short training sessions much impressed with him, who went on to train the Commander in turn. Again Rakhi in her puckish style performed the exercises and went hopping to shoot when the alarm bell sounded. Leaving the spectators roaring with laughter she lay there on the ground even after the mock-battle was over till she was ordered to leave by the commander.

Much drama ensued after the battle session when Amit did not participate in any activity on the pretense of ill health but much to the annoyance of the other family virtually plunged into the food bowl. Rupaali went on with her fast and pledged to stick to it firmly until she is allowed to talk to her parents. Ravi and Rakhi failed in their mission to convince her.

Big Boss then assigned them the task of shooting practice whereby they had to practise shooting with the commander as the judge. Except for Amit everyone followed the suit and tried their luck at shooting. Rahul Roy emerged victorious in the training session.

Day by day the episodes are getting exciting as the stress is shooting up and new tasks are assigned and the inmates Rahul, Baba, Carol, Jawan Amit, and Rakhi get ready to face the challenge.

With each passing day new twists and turns render Big Boss, Sony Tv's reality show as a complete entertainer along the lines of the television serials with humour, drama and emotions to add onto the spicy episodes.

The Indianized version has inculcated much of exaggeration and gossip. The celebrates forced to share the same living space with one another often bump into one another's personal life and what ensues sets up the stage for the action. Unlike daily soaps, the tearjerkers, Big Boss is one show where situational humour amounts to its growing popularity.

Every week the inmates are given tasks to perform, which upon completion will fetch them their weekly provision. During the last week, the fag end of 2006, the inmates of the house were assigned the task of staging a serial with all the staple ingredients of drama, comedy, emotions, etc, and do the repeat telecast of every episode without any alterations whatsoever even in their costumes. As the inmates were not allowed to write down the lines they had to memorize the dialogues as well. Artistes by profession, the celebrities performed a family drama revolving around the lives of four brothers, their family and a visitor with emphasis on Indian traditions, family values and marital relations to utmost perfection. What was underplayed was the politics among the inmates Ravi and Amit, which they did manage to settle amidst the show.

There were many names Carol, Amit, Rupaali, Rakhi, Ragini, etc which were short-listed for elimination. While Rupaali was eager to leave to meet her family and lack of good clothes, Amit was lovesick for Neeru. Ragini was finally eliminated after much suspense and speculation much to her relief. Ragini disclosed her true identity and expressed her willingness to forsake the prize money to be her self amidst her loved ones. Rakhi Sawant with her extra dose of spice peppered every episode with her crazy dialogues and sensuous moves.

The minor bickering and skirmishes among the inmates of the show is far more exciting than the prosaic daily soaps where stories revolve around set plots. But one cannot overlook that there are moments when Big Boss relegates to the level of a mere serial indulging in emotional outbursts and melodrama. The Indianized Big Brother is quickly climbing up the popularity charts with the spectators ardently following every episode with excitement.

Bigg Boss' Soldiers

Bigg Boss one of the most popular shows on Sony Tv has been on air for a couple of weeks amassing immense popularity with every other day and the eliminations being made every weekend. One by one the inmates of Bigg Boss' house are leaving and much politics is being played among the participants who are vying to stay till the last save for Amit and Rupaali, all eager to be back with their dear ones. The participants Rahul, Ravi, Rupaali, Amit, Baba, Carol, and Rakhi mostly play it safe.

Rahul, the bhaiyya to the inmates always maintains a low profile though at times in one of his strange moods he does indulge in a little revelry. Rahul maintains a sober mood always and a certain degree of aloofness though he does participate in all the activities.

Ravi who is the most paid actor on the show is hell bent to hold on till the last. With his Bhojpuri accent and rustic temperament he does play games on a different plane. Nevertheless Ravi can be troublesome with his skirmishes with Amit. Ravi is perpetually obsessed with cleanliness in the kitchen though he is usually clumsily clad.

Amit the sportive person has of late let loose his tantrums by refusing to be a part of Bigg Boss' battalion, the mock army set up in the household. The lovesick hero is too eager to be with his ladylove Neeru. Amit and Ravi indulge in a real love-hate game of politics to the extent of backbiting. Amit sportingly called Chotu by Rupaali convinces her to break her hunger strike. His passions are rather unpredictable and mood swings rather strange.

Baba Sehgal, the singer maintains a cheerful temperament and has composed songs for every inmate extolling their virtues. But as the tension is reflected in him too, he is sported as having a major gossip session with Rakhi Sawant austerely probing into each person's character and hidden motives. This week Baba is the commander along with Rupaali commanding the rest are jawans in the army.

Rakhi Sawant, the item girl who has made a dramatic come back is all set to play the game till the end, when she makes it loud and clear that she will not leave this weekend nor the following one. In her idiosyncratic style she adds spice to the show making it light and fun filled. Her chirpiness does exceed the limit of irritation though she can be loud mouthed in her own ways. With her clear-cut notions as to who is playing game and who is not, she has assumed the role of a judge who passes judgement before the d-day.

Rupaali, the crybaby is one who tries to gain everyone's sympathy covertly, be it her being nominated or not being nominated for elimination. She is always on the look out for a reason to shed tears. Lately her hunger strike against Bigg Boss for not allowing her to wish her parents on New Year's Eve fell flat when upon Amit's wheedling she willingly gave it up.

Carol is not much of a troublemaker and does not indulge too much in gossip or other tantrums. She steers herself clear of Rakhi's tantrums and rupali's grumpiness. The model has learnt the basics of acting really well and has an edge over others with her ever cool attitude and sprightliness.

Big Brother the original version is now into its second phase on Channel 4 anchored by the Bollywood sensation Shilpa Shetty. Bigg Boss's battalion is all set for the final countdown, which is to take place a few weeks later to declare the winner. Amit in his own ways has decided to leave and stands a clear chance of being evicted by this week or so. Time will declare the winner who has survived all mind games to emerge victorious in the end.

Who's Spying? Bigg Boss

Imagine...Cameras everywhere with ever-watchful eyes keeping a tab on your activities! How would life be when privacy exists only within the vicinity of the washroom? The situation is rather murky and one cannot be oneself. But trying times can bring out the hidden motives and inner character of any person for the matter sane or insane.

Within the house of Bigg Boss, cameras are kept in every room to closely scrutinize every move of the celebrities virtually trapped in the house devoid of any communication channels and entertainment. 24 hours throughout the day the cameras render every move of the celebrities with utmost sincerity. They track them from the moment they wake up till they are back in bed at night. Dutifully and faithfully capturing every moment of their stay - the cooking sessions, cleaning schedules, dance and masti, meetings and even their make up and dressing room. Privacy is thrown to the winds.

The artistes accustomed to the cameras adjust themselves though on occasions their patience wanes and they give in to their real self as when Rakhi Sawant had yelled and screamed before her elimination or the back-biting and bitchiness for which Kashmira was quite infamous.

The audience used to painted faces on screen gets the golden chance to see the personalities in their true selves. Slowly as the show is moving towards its fag end, the uneasiness and skirmishes are erupting and factions are formed within the house. Amit and Rupaali have joined hands to fight against Ravi who is their common enemy. The cameras faithfully capture their conversations and their plan of action as well. Ravi Kissen and Baba Sehgal have formed a musical troupe with Rakhi Sawant as their star performer, the item girl in full fling with her titillating dance moves. They travel down the memory lane living those lovely moments. Carol has lately lost her strength of mind and trust in her own self and others around, waiting to be ousted. The actors and actresses blatantly make loud and clear their vehement, disgust, sorrows and joys, and their liking and disliking for one another in front of the camera.

Even though the prize money is a big lure and the fame and popularity is an added bonus, the trauma of living under constant surveillance far exceeds the bait!
