Are you tired of watching fake emotions, exaggerated drama, contrived storylines and typical plots in your daily soaps???

Then, get set for real drama like you have never seen before.

BIGG BOSS, the Indian version of the internationally acclaimed show – Big Boss is set to take the nation by storm from November 3rd onwards.

Bigg Boss, the all powerful and god-like entity will rule the lives of 13 handpicked celebrities from various fields. He will make them do things that you could never imagine and show you a side of them that you have not seen before. This unscripted soap will entertain you with its unadulterated drama, raw emotions, genuine laughter and so much more. Bigg Boss will show you LIVE drama as it happens.

To top it off, Bigg Boss has found the ultimate assistant – ARSHAD WARSI to help him in finding these celebrities and to take you on a roller coaster ride like no other. Arshad Warsi is set for a role of a lifetime. And, you get set for a unique primetime soap that will leave you gasping for more!

THE FORMAT:

The house:

Bigg Boss has built a basic and functional house at the outskirts of Mumbai where he will house 13 celebrities for 3 months. The house is large enough for 13 people, but small enough to ensure that they are always in each other's space.

30 cameras will capture their every move to ensure that celebrities do not have any privacy [except in the bathrooms].

The house does not contain any tools of entertainment or means of communication with the outside word…

No television…No Radio…No Music player…No Books…No Internet…No phones…etc.

Celebrities cannot leave the house once the show starts… unless they are evicted through public vote.

Can you imagine being stuck inside a house for 3 months? How would you feel if your freedom was taken away? Read on for more…

Back to basics:

Each celebrity enters the house with 1 suitcase. They have to prioritize their needs and pack everything that they will need for 3 months. Once they enter the house, Bigg Boss will not allow anything from outside into the house without his permission.

The celebrities will have to cook, clean, sweep the floor, etc. without any help from maids, assistants, cooks, etc.

There is no make-up artist or stylist to help them look their best on television. They have to fend for themselves.

Can you imagine your celebrities without all the help that they take for granted? Think of all the fun while watching them do the household chores.

Bigg Boss's power:

Bigg Boss will give the celebrities the weekly and daily tasks through which they will earn their weekly budget. The group will use the budget to buy food items to survive in the house.

The group can wager 25%-75% of their weekly budget with Bigg Boss depending on the difficulty of the task. If they are successful, Bigg Boss will increase their weekly budget and if they fail at the task, they will have to live like paupers.

Nomination and Eviction:

Nomination
Each housemate nominates 2 celebrities for eviction to Bigg Boss. [cannot nominate themselves].

Bigg Boss chooses 2 celebrities with the maximum number of nominations to be put up for public vote.

Voting lines open and the viewers vote to throw out the celebrity the hate the most from the Bigg Boss's house.

Eviction
At the end of the week, the voting lines close.

The celebrity with the maximum votes is evicted from the Bigg Boss's house.

So tune it to catch up with all the fun, excitement and thrill live on Bigg Boss

Big Brother goes desi
By: Tushar Joshi
September 29, 2006

Rakhi Sawant
One of the biggest reality show franchises, Big Brother, is now coming to Indian shores. For those of you who are unaware about the show's popularity abroad, one look on the Internet and you'll find numerous websites devoted to fans of 32 different versions of the series, broadcasted in countries across the world.

Names kept secret

Changing Big Brother to Bigg Boss, Sony has got the show to India through the production house Endemol. The planning for this reality show has been on for months, with the task of selecting 13 participants being the most tedious.

The challenge was to find individuals ready to give up their freedom to be locked up in a house under constant surveillance.

The channel is tight-lipped about those participating on the show, and even the contestants have signed a confidentiality agreement refraining them from talking about their participation.

In the dark

However, a source working on the show spilled the beans revealing the names of some of the confirmed candidates. He said, "Rakhi Sawant, Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kissen, Karan Wahi and Vinod Kambli are some of the confirmed names.

Karan Wahi
We had a major problem finding celebrities who have the time and willingness to sit in a house for three months. None of the contestants are aware about who else is going to be in the house with them. They've all been kept in the dark about the other competitors."

Rajesh Kamath, MD, Endemol, who is producing the show, gave details about Bigg Boss' format. He said, "We will have 13 contestants who will be put in a house for three months. They will be given a daily and a weekly task, on completion of which they earn money. Apart from basic groceries and money, they won't be given anything else. No mobile phones, television sets or newspapers will be allowed in the house."

Unlike the international version, the Indian format will be edited and censored. "Keeping the viewers' sensibilities in mind, there won't be any nudity on the show. The episode isn't live but deferred by a day. We will edit whatever footage we get and then broadcast it."

Stating that they would indeed take a voyeuristic approach like the international format, he added, "We will show two people getting into a bedroom, but what happens after that will be left to the viewer's imagination."

Making choices

Sandiip Sikcand, chief creative director SET, said, "It's a ground-breaking format. Indian television hasn't seen anything of this sort before. We have shortlisted 40 people, and will soon make the final choices."

On the issue of editing and doing a delayed live, he said, "The editing will be very mild. The viewers will get to watch most of what happens as it unfolds in the house."

He also added that the show is likely to go on air in the first week of November, and will run for a duration of three weeks. The location of the set where the house will be constructed is being kept a secret from the contestants as well.

It's official: Aamna moves to Sony
By: Tushar Joshi
October 23, 2006

Aamna Shariff
Will she, won't she? For weeks, speculation has been rife about Aamna Shariff's plans to work with Sony in a new show. Initially, there were talks about her unhappiness at playing an older character in Balaji's Kahiin Toh Hoga.

Later, there were reports about how she convinced Ekta Kapoor to bring Kashish back on the show in a new, younger look. However, the latest buzz doing the rounds is that Kahiin Toh Hoga is shutting shop and Aamna will soon be shifting base to Sony.

Confirming this news, Sony's creative head, Sandiip Sikcand, says, "I'm looking forward to working with Aamna. She's a brilliant actress. We've something planned for her. However, it's too early for details."

Discussing options

Sources claim Aamna will be doing a new show with Film Farm (the producers of Tumhari Disha). To this, Sandiip reacts, "I have a couple of ideas for Aamna. The Film Farm show is one of those. I still need to have a proper discussion with her about the possibilities."

Another source close to the channel reveals, "It's too early to say if she will do the Film Farm show. But her doing a show with Sony is now official."

Sony recently launched a new drama, Kaajjal, which had a lukewarm response. Reacting to this reception from the audience, Sikcand says, "There are a lot of developments on the show in terms of creative as-pects and the people working on it. We've identified areas that need improvement. But, the overall consensus is that it's a fresh show and has opened well. "

Another hyped show, Bigg Boss, will debut on the channel on November 3. Touting it as one of Sony's most ambitious projects, he says, "There is not a single Sony actor on the show. In fact, the list of contestants is still heavily guarded. They themselves don't know who will be locked up in the house along with them."

Bigg Boss ki nazar Smriti par
By: Vickey Lalwani
October 17, 2006

Smriti Z Iraani
Sony's forthcoming reality show Bigg Boss (inspired by the international hit Big Brother) continues to be in the news for its celebrity participant list. The latest name is Smriti Z Iraani, who has been approached for the show.
Interesting choice

According to a source, "Smriti Iraani is the most interesting name in the list. Endemol (the show's producers) did take the offer to her. She is busy doing two shows, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Thodi Zameen Thoda Aasman, and it would be difficult to get 100 days block dates from her. But it's still worth a try."

When contacted, Endemol's managing director Rajesh Kamat said that he could not comment on Smriti's inclusion on or offer for the show. But Sony's chief creative director, Sandiip Sikcand endorsed, "We will reveal the celebrity names only in the opening episode on November 3."

None of the participants on the show know the names of the other celebritties on board.

When contacted, Smriti was forthcoming. It seems unlikely that she will do Bigg Boss in the first season at least. "I would love to be a part of Bigg Boss, but my schedules do not permit me to do that. I do not have dates for its first season. It would mean that I will have to let go of the other show that I am doing for Sony," said Iraani.

As for her take on Bigg Boss, she said, "I like the idea. I would like to see everybody being grilled and watched by the entire nation. I want to see how many people can survive the pressure."

The celebrities participating in Bigg Boss will be locked in a house for nearly three months (84 days to be precise) under the surveillance of 30 cameras, 24x7.

Boss, Ashmit aur Riya saath mein!
By: Tushar Joshi
October 11, 2006

Ashmit Patel and Riya Sen
The list of the participants on Sony's Bigg Boss is heavily guarded. Even though the reality show (along the lines of Big Brother) will to go on air in November, the final list of candidates is still under deliberation. Even the contestants are not aware about the other players.

They will all be flown in to a secret destination and that's where the revelation will take place. The fourteen people will be locked up in the house for three months, with cameras in each room and every minute of their stay on the premises will be filmed.

Of warring couples

The house where the seven couples will be housed is being put up in a remote part of Karjat. The idea is to get warring couples under the same roof. Last month, we told you about the possibility of Rakhi Sawant and Mika being on the show.

A production source says, "The show definitely wants to push the envelope when it comes to reality television. The attempt is to get controversial couples like Rakhi and Mika, Ravi Kissen and Nagma, Ashmit and Riya and others to the house to create drama."

According to our source, Ashmit Patel is one of the names finalised for the show. "Ashmit has been approached and he is quite kicked about doing Bigg Boss. He has watched the international version of Big Brother and knows exactly how it works."

We contacted Ashmit for confirmation, but he refused to comment.
However an actor close to Ashmit confirms that he will be doing the show. " Ashmit is on the verge of signing the contract. It will be good fun watching him with the other participants."

Riya Sen is also in talks for the same show. A channel source, however, says, "Riya is still considering the offer." Even though everything is being kept hush-hush, we know that the channel is currently in the process of getting soundbytes from friends and families of those participants who have signed the contract. Besides that the contestants are also being made to undergo an HIV test and sign confidentiality agreements.

Karan says, Sorry Boss!
By: Tushar Joshi
October 28, 2006

Karan Wahi
Post Remix, Karan Wahi seems to have disappeared from the television industry. The actor was all set to make his return with Sony's much-discussed reality show Bigg Boss. According to the grapevine, Karan was one of the first few to sign the contract for the show.

However, the actor won't be a part of the project anymore since he was down with typhoid.

The actor who's still at his residence in Delhi spoke about his disappointment on losing out on Bigg Boss. "When I was offered the show, I was quite excited about the idea.

I had seen the international episodes and was quite impressed with the
format. However, a typhoid attack for the last few weeks made it impossible for me to take up the project."

Sweating it out

Karan has been at home for over a month and during this period the actor reveals he has put on a lot of weight. "I hadn't been at home for such a long stretch. The deadly combination of the yummy food at home and the
chilled-out climate has made me plumper. These days, I am busy jogging, running and trying to lose the extra kilos."

He also discloses that soon we might see him in a new look. "I think my look is changing. I actually feel the physical transformation in
my body. The boyish look is giving way to a man. Of course, I have to work doubly hard to lose weight and get in shape."

Post Remix, the actor has been flooded with offers but is waiting for the right project.

"I was offered something with Balaji but then it didn't work out. I think my boyish image works against me at times, especially when it comes to films."

Now that he has recovered from his illness, Karan intends to start focussing on work. "I would love to step into Bollywood. But I am also open to anything interesting on television as well." Interestingly, he still gets calls and messages from the Remix fans asking him if the show would ever be back. "There are these websites where people have continued the story of Remix in fictionalised episodes. I think that's really sweet."

SRK fan

Is he still in touch with his other co-stars from the show? "Yes I am. In fact, before coming to Delhi, I celebrated Raj's birthday at my new house in Mumbai. Shweta is doing some shows but I am not really aware about what Priya is up to."

Apart from watching films in his spare time, Karan is busy going through
Shah Rukh Khan's recently released biography. "I worship Shah Rukh. He's the ultimate actor in the industry and I was always interested in reading about him. I loved the book as it offered some really personal and private information on him."

Wahi is all set to return back to Mumbai in a few days. "I can't wait to get back to work. Though I hope I lose weight, so all my friends can recognise me when I am back."

Sony to launch 'Kaajjal' on 9 Oct; 'Bigg Boss' coming mid-November

By BIJOY A K
Indiantelevision.com Team

(27 September 2006 5:30 am)

MUMBAI: The channel may have dropped out of the ratings reckoning, but Sony Entertainment India is now making its best efforts to make a comeback.

Sony will unleash its big ticket soap Kaajjal, produced by K Sera Sera's Twenty Twenty TV, on 9 October, whereas the much-awaited Bigg Boss, the Indianised version of Big Brother, is targeting a mid-November launch.

"We are planning to launch Kaajjal, a daily soap, on 9 October. The schedule and slot details for this soap are yet to be finalised," Sony COO NP Singh tells indiantelevision.com, while not revealing his plans for Bigg Boss.

However, market sources inform that Bigg Boss will hit the airwaves by mid-November - immediately after the Champions Trophy gets over. "Bigg Boss will be a prime time show, running Monday through Friday. The show will feature about 15 celebrities and the participants will include Bollywood stars, cricketers and politicians. Bigg Boss will get over by January 2007," says a source.

According to Singh, Sony will kick off the Bigg Boss promotions by the second week of October. "The on-air promotions are already on. Now we will be looking at outdoors and the other media platforms in a big way for the second phase of the campaign," he says.

The Indian version of Big Brother will be Sony's fourth Endemol acquisition after Indian Idol, Fame Gurukul and Fear Factor India. Reportedly, Big Brother contributes to over 25 per cent of the format owner Endemol's revenues internationally.

The Big Brother (Bigg Boss) format requires 10 - 15 contestants living in a house rigged with cameras recording every moment of their lives. The contestants are deprived of contact with the outside world except those allowed by the editorial team. Every week there are tasks to perform, which test their community spirit and team-work. Throughout the series, the contestants are required to nominate two of their number to be voted out of the house.

Bigg Boss acquires a crucial place in Sony's gameplan for the coming days as nearest rivals Star and Zee have also unveiled big projects to sustain their performance. To boost is daily 8 pm slot, Star Plus has opted for a sci-fi series, Antariksh. Zee has launched its mega soap project Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann for the crucial 10 pm slot and has Antakshari and Cine Star Ki Khoj coming up next in the pipeline.

Star One is gunning for huge jump in channel shares with Nach Baliye 2, the celebrity dance show that propelled the channel's performance in 2005, and a brand new soap Betiyaan apni yaa…Paraaya Dhan. Countering the Star property on the reality front is Sony's Jhalak Dikhla Ja, the Indian adaptation of the ABC reality show Dancing with the Stars.

For the time being, Sony's gameplan has a lot to do with these well acclaimed international formats. It remains to be seen, whether these international properties will be able to drive Sony to a position of strength in the coming days.
