Rakhi's Abhishek

Finally, Rakhi Sawant has admitted to Bigg Boss that she's in love with wannabe actor Abhishek Awasthi (he was a participant on Zee Cinestars Ki Khoj).

But dearies, HiTLIST was the first to tell you about the item girl's main man ('Rakhi's new item', HiTLIST, October 16), where we broke the story of how they've been dating for over two years.

He's the one: Abhishek Awasthi

At the time, there was also a buzz that they were living together at Rakhi's new Oshiwara pad. But the item girl had said, "I am not in love. Abhishek and I are very good friends. I share all my problems with him."

We're told Abhishek is Rakhi's boyfriend, choreographer and secretary, considering he even answers her calls. Now here's a relationship on equal footing!

What's cooking? Kashmera Shah and Ragini in Big Boss
Kashmera Shah's pillow talk

The opening frames of Thursday's episode of Bigg Boss showed Kashmera Shah seated on her bed applying make-up. Her low-waist jeans provided a full view of her knickers, but in the next shot, a pillow had been strategically placed on her back.

The same happened with the usually bindaas Carol, when she sat cross-legged on the sofa with a pillow covering her legs.

Is Bigg Boss censoring the skin show?

'I forgive others...'- Deepak Parashar
Rachna Kanwar

Deepak Parashar has been evicted from 'Bigg Boss', Sony TV's reality show.

He was nominated for two weeks in a row by the contestants for being bossy and dominating. We caught up with him as he came out of the house specially designed for the reality show.

Tell us of your experience in Bigg Boss' house.

It was absolutely wonderful!

Who do you think was the most lovable participant?

There were so many kids there. For me they were all kids. I have a daughter with my earlier wife who I have never seen, so I considered everyone there as my kid. They were like a family. I think Anupama Verma was the most lovable out of all of them.

You were branded as a cleanliness freak on the show by the other contestants. Comment

I have an Army background. My folks taught me to be organized and clean. That is why I am like that. I did that inside Bigg Boss' house too. I cleaned bathrooms, I cooked, I organized the ration cupboard and I made beds. I thought it was my duty. The participants are still very young and don't realize the importance of all this. You have to love yourself. There is so much love in you; you have to give it to others. What I hated most was the collective groupism inside. I did not belittle myself or anyone else. I did not stoop to their level. I came out with dignity and pride.

Who did you think was most political?

I think Rupali was quite political. I had named her in my second nomination as she would come to our room and say 'this one did this and that one did that'. She would play to the camera; crying at the drop of a hat to get public sympathy. My first nomination was for Ravi and Ragini. Ravi told me to nominate him as he was missing his kids and Ragini I felt was a misfit. The other nomination I made was for Carol as I feel she should have more understanding for people who are 30 yrs. her senior. I am so much older; these kids should have some respect and compassion for senior citizens.

What did you miss most inside Bigg Boss' house?

I missed my luxury and I missed genuine people around me who love and need me. I was with a bunch of kids who didn't really understand me. But I was happy that I got a chance to be there. I am grateful to Balaji Telefilms for giving me time off to move out of 'Kahin To Hoga' I haven't quit the show but have taken 3 months off. I couldn't tell them that I was doing this show as that is the format of the show. I just wanted to test my resistance levels. I must say that I am proud of myself. I was involved in no controversy. Even now I forgive the other contestants for saying whatever they did about me. Like in Bible it is written, 'Please forgive them, they know not what they do'.

Did you hate the cameras in the house?

No I was absolutely ok with the cameras. I am an actor. If you take away the camera from an actor, he will die. I have spent 28 years in front of the camera. I started out as Mr. India in 1976.

Your gown became a topic of debate. What do you have to say?

I didn't design the gown. I went to Dubai in 1986 to receive the Best Actor award for my film, 'Nikah in the Indo-Pakistan awards. I saw the Arabs wearing this dress and I thought I can't wear it officially. Then I went to someone's house and I saw them wearing these gowns at home. I loved them. See, I have been a clothes horse all my life and at the end of the day, I love wearing something comfortable as I can't be in my birthday suit. So, I decided to wear these Jhabas as the Arabs call them. I buy them from Dubai. I was told that Farah Khan loved it and said that it'll become a new style statement.

Bigg Boss

Anupama Verma who was termed as the 'sweetest person' inside Bigg Boss' house by Deepak Parashar says good morning to the camera. She nominated her fellow model Carol Gracias this Monday to be evicted from the house.

Colgate or pepsodent is the question?

Carol soon tries to break free from the image and shows her 32 pearlies to the cameras over a cuppa coffee.

Aryan, Amit and Ravi sitting in the boys' room. Ravi giving advice to the two who recently had a tiff over an 'indecent' gesture by Amit.

Kashmera and Deepak share a frame next to the pool. She was nominated this week to be evicted. The two see each other as a threat and therefore Deepak nominated Kashmera to be evicted this week

Ravi Kishan, the resident comedy king and new entrant Deepak Tijori who is fast becoming a 'baba' or the 'wise man' of the household share camaraderie... something that is fast becoming a rarity.

Carol who was nominated by the inmates of the house looks grumpy living up to the image she has craeted of herself in the last few days. Being chided for speaking in English, she cried her heart out and hurled abuses at the language of preferance, Hindi, in the house.

Aryan Vaid got a warning for discussing nominations with the 'mastermind' Kashmera Shah inside Bigg Boss' house. He looks innocent like a baby as he wakes up to a day full of tension and conflicts.

Drama with dance, a potent combination!

Finally, there was some real action on Nach Baliye this week. No ordinary performance could have matched the tugging of the heartstrings that Shweta Tiwari managed with her dance with choreographer Sagar.

Hubby Raja Choudhary's liver abcess couldn't have been more of a blessing in disguise, prevent as it did him from appearing on the show this week. Shweta and Raja couldn't really have hoped to last a couple more episodes, considering Raja's limited dancing capabilities and Shweta couldn't have soldiered on alone, despite avowedly being Saroj Khan's favourite. But Monday's emotional disqualification ensured Shweta a place in audience hearts for a long time to come, as she swayed and sashayed with trembling lips and eyes moist with tears. What more can a TV actor ask for?

Drama, with a capital D, is essential in all 'reality' and talent shows, whatever their levels of reality, particularly on Indian television. It's this drama that is starkly absent on Zee's latest edition of Cinestars ki Khoj. The lacklustre AVs that trace the participants' journey thus far, the flat performances, nothing seems to be setting off that spark so far. Even the blunt aggressiveness of judges Pooja Bhatt and Anupam Kher has no bite. As for the third judge,

Madhur Bhandarkar, he looks clearly uncomfortable having to pass judgment on the anxious-eyed young hopefuls. The show obviously misses the Gajendra Singh touch, which uplifted the other Sa Re Ga Ma Pa talent hunts on the channel all these years. It just shows how a dedicated director, passionate about his shows, can make a big difference to how it finally appears on screen.

If Cinestars is nothing to hum about, nor is Jeena Isika Naam Hai, which too is appearing in a second, refurbished avatar. Where Farooque Sheikh sparkled with a quiet dignity in the first season, Roshan Abbas is overbearing. Farooque merged with the backgroud, Roshan makes sure of his share in the spotlight. Even the production standards are glaringly different. NDTV's handiwork was sophisticated and subtle. Shashi Ranjan's idea of playing on motions is to have blaring music every time the guest gets misty eyed about any reminescence.

NDTV preferred to have Farooque on his feet all the time, moving comfortably around. Roshan, last week, propped himself on the sofa with guest Satish Shah last week and made it sound like just any other interview. And finally, the first Jeena... brought in first rung celebs from the film industry as well as other fields. Why does it seem that this time round, we will have to be content with ho-hum TV celebs?

Zoom's Popkorn, now rechristened as Popkorn Newz, is also back with a fresh edition. It's offering the same fluffy Bollywood and tellywood news and 'masala', but with a different anchor. Barkha Bisht, freshly out of work after 'Pyar Ke Do Naam...' wound up on Star Plus, is a refreshing change, with her petite looks and vibrant style. Good choice, Zoom!

One can't resist putting in a bit about Bigg Boss. The third week was as abonimably fascinating as the earlier ones. It showcases neither talent, skills nor does it tell a story. And yet, everyone seems to be watching goggle eyed as Rakhee Sawant goes about breaking glasses and quarreling with Amit Sadh, and Aryan Vaid cosies up with Anupama. Bigg Boss forever verges on the edge of becoming monotonous and tedious with nothing much for the participants to do except live together under one roof.

But amazingly, it doesn't get boring at all! Either it's extraordinarily lucky in the excitement it continuously generates, or there is an element of manipulation, unknown to the viewers. But so long as the viewers get their daily dose of voyeurism, who cares?

'Boss's girls act like housewives'
By: Shaheen Parkar

Meethi chuuri: Kashmera Shah
Bigg Boss's surprise evictee this week is Kashmera Shah, and she feels her exit will make the Sony reality show extremely dull. "All the colourful people are out now, so where's the fun?"

Kashmera feels that there is no one on the show (other than her, of course!) who will stand up and speak honestly, "especially the ones who will call a spade a spade."

How did your biggest ally (Rakhi) turn foe?
When Rakhi broke the fast she had kept so that I could remain on the show, I knew that I would be voted out. It was extremely wrong on her part. I saw through her and that was the end. I realised she couldn't be trusted. I never voted for her ouster. Rakhi has lost a friend forever.

Is Krishna (Govinda's nephew) the new man in your life?
I like him and we are doing a film together. At the moment, my marriage with Brad Listermann is not officially off. We are giving each other time. So let's see…

You stopped eating food for the last six days…
I couldn't digest that cooking/serving act put up by Rupali, Carol and Co. They behaved like housewives from Bhiwandi! I survived on salads this week. I didn't want to cook/ serve people like Rahul Roy and Amit Sadh. I'll cook biryani for Salman instead! As it is, the girls were a bunch of bad cooks. The stuff was terrible. Rupali knew no cooking at all. I must admit that Rakhi was the only one who knew how to cook. Deepak and Bobby were also good cooks, but they were voted out.

You came across as the one who instigated people on the show.
That was the impression I created for being upfront. I am not a Miss Goody-Two-Shoes sort of person and won't speak about the charitable things I have done. Like the rest, I did not feel the need to be extra helpful. I spoke the truth about the reasons why we were in Bigg Boss's house. I don't believe in pretending and playing to the camera, unlike the rest.

Who were your real friends in the house?
Ragini, Aryan and Anupama.

Where do you go from Bigg Boss?
I'm back to my stage shows. Now I'm going to happily tuck into some good food made by my cook, Suraj.

Eternally confused: Amit Sadh and Neeru Bajwa
Tangled webs

It seems that relationships have become a matter of convenience for small screen actors. First, they would simply deny that they were dating the man or woman in question. Now, they've taken it one step further and we are far from amused.

Everybody knows that Amit Sadh and Neeru Bajwa were, and still are, engaged. But when Amit spoke about his fiance on Bigg Boss, Neeru denied that they were still a couple.

But on Thursday's episode, Amit was prancing around with a photograph of his ladylove, whispering sweet nothings to the inanimate picture! Of course, Neeru still denies her liaison with Sadh. But a little birdie informs us that the reason she's doing this is to project a 'single and ready to mingle' image to boost her film career.

Then there's also Gaurav Chopraa and Narayani Shastri, who are on again-off again when it suits them. They were off before being offered the greens for Nach Baliye, then conveniently become a couple again for the show. Now that they've been ousted, they've parted ways once again.
Sheesh. Whatever happened to good old romance?

Bigg Boss exposed!

A peep into the Bigg Boss house in Karjat reveals many more secrets and gossip than we see on screen

Back to Section Stories

Dhaval Roy

When one watches Sony's Bigg Boss, it all seems very simple. Twenty-eight cameras watching 13 contestants over a period of three months holed up inside one house without any contact whatsoever with the outside world. But a trip to the sets of Bigg Boss in the remote studio ensconced in Karjat, proves the kind of hard work and logistics involved in the show are mind-boggling!

No replay here: Arshad Warsi in the Bigg Boss house
As one reaches the sets, there is big fuss about the security Endemol India and Sony have made sure the tight security give complex to the best Z grade security! Vehicles are not allowed beyond a point, one requires 'all access' pass to go to the sets, no one is allowed anywhere even near the Bigg Boss house, cellphones and camera are confiscated if one has to go to the sets where the eviction episodes are shot and also in the control room. The control room has 28 monitors for each camera installed in the house and four extra monitors that relay each and every move of the contestants. There are editors editing the 24/7 footage into 50 minutes, there are people logging in activity each and every second! As Ranjana Jaitley, senior editor of the show says, "We don't miss a single movement of the actors. If there are people monitoring says Rahul Roy's moves and in the meanwhile Carol does something interesting, then the camera focuses on her." What the team is emphasising most on is the fact that it is not directed or staged. "In fact, adhering to censorship rules, a lot of masala is edited because Sony is a family channel," adds Jaitley. There is a doctor and a psychiatrist also involved just in case a contestant needs. Apparently, when Salil Ankola came for the audition, he couldn't bear to be all alone even for 25 minutes doing nothing!

The latest contestant who got axed is Kashmera Shah. "I don't care if I haven't won the booty. I am so relieved!" she exclaims. The first thing she asks after coming out is the time. Kashmera has been trying to call her husband Brad but no one has ISD facility on the phone and her mother forgot to get Kashmera's phone.

One is taken to the swimming pool area, which is rather quiet because everyone is inside the Bigg Boss house. While entering the dark room, which has a one way mirror, one cannot wear white shoes, nor have any shining material on their person lest the contestants can sense activity. There are hidden cameras in the pool area also. As the day comes to an end, it means more work for the overseers and editors because after 6 pm, the contestants come alive and have most activity happening. As the sun sets at the Big Boss house, the day is far from over for its inmates because they sleep only at 1 am.

Kashmira is out of the Bigg Boss House

Finally, Kashmira is out of the Bigg Boss house. All teh conspiracies, back biting, bitching and more has not worked. Even her prayers could not save her from the eviction. But Kashmira's eviction from the house is definitely a blow to the show since she was the only housemate who kept the drama going.

Okay, we all agree that it may have been for the wrong reasons, but we also have to admit that without Kashmira in the house, there won't be much "halla gulla" going around. Who's going to instigate those little arguments, and provoke fights for all the wrong reasons?

Well, we may or may not be happy with her eviction, but we know for sure that most of the housemates are probably breathing a sigh of relief as soon as she walked out of the Bigg Boss House. She had made life a living hell for a lot of the housemates, and the whole atmosphere unbearable. Now they can breathe freely, especially Rakhi.

What we now have to see is whether Rakhi survives in the house without Kashmira, or will she be the next in line?
