It was erotic as hell. 😆 No need to be disturbed. We are normal people as well. 😆

Problem is almost all the characters in the show are not innocent either.

If other characters have a "reason" or a "justification" then why not Maya?

And its no secret that Maya is indeed ill.

Nithunavi:
Quit calling people 'hypocrites'. You're breaking IF rules, for the umpteenth time.

And secondly, it's not the show which is being deemed as 'disturbing'; it's the REACTION of some people that is.

I had great expectations from this show, even though I knew that the primary focus would be on Maya's obsessive and controlling love for Arjun. It started off well, with a lot of emphasis on Maya's past and PTSD stemming from her childhood- but now it's going down the drain. The writers are failing at what should've been their main motive, trying to get the audience's sympathy for Maya even through her morally reprehensible actions. Now Maya's character is just any average evil villain on any Indian TV show, except that she has a mental illness that the writers don't give a shit about, except to somehow use it as an excuse for what she does, without putting in any efforts whatsoever to get the audience to feel even a shred of sympathy for Maya.
Meh. I feel cheated, mostly. I went in expecting myself to love Maya the way I loved Kilgrave from Jessica Jones, but now I'm just disappointed.

Edit: The difference between Maya and Kilgrave, though, is worlds apart. Maya is the protagonist, so the writers should've actively worked to get people's sympathy for her. Kilgrave was an antagonist, was portrayed negatively, with no excuse whatsoever for his actions. I still love his character because of how it was executed, and even without any efforts from the writers, I still managed to feel bad for Kilgrave at times.
Maya, though, is now a shitty excuse for a "misguided" protagonist gone awry. There's so much that could've been done with her but sigh.

The point of argument is , Maya is bad, no doubt, but Saanjh blah blah blah, n Vandana blah blah ..

Maya's crimes are justified, but V n S's human weaknesses are also bashed like crazy...n all this , with all earnestness...

Of course, to each his/her own, but it's disturbing to see the very young members of the forum being swayed into thinking in this unhealthy way ...😲

Aye and aye to both these above posts.

There was a time when every activity stemming from Maya's inner darkness ( manipulation, blackmail, stalking) used to be brushed aside or completely disregarded in the veil of "grey shaded characterization." However, now when it's pretty much clear as water that Maya is indeed a criminal at heart and all her deeds can't be attributed to others' simple and inadvertent mistakes, I see myriad of comments trying persistently to shift the focus on other characters' actions; for example statements like Saanjh is responsible for Ayan being jailed 😆

Saanjh and Vandana or even Arjun , these people don't possess the characters which one should look up to - yes I agree - but they're far from being deliberately harmful to Maya or anyone else for that matter.

I have a propensity towards morally reprehensible characters in fiction but somehow Maya is not able to cut it for me despite being played by my most fave actor on TV. When people say Maya is well written, I just chuckle and sigh! They could have done wonders with Maya, but they resorted to playing to the gallery, taking the easy way out instead of exploring the intricacies of the character in a balanced manner.

If only they'd written a better plot line for Maya, we could've seen some character growth and development- possibly even a redemption arc. She's the protagonist of the show, she can have it.

But at this point, I think they're throwing darts on a random board full of post it notes that have various nefarious deeds written on them in an effort to make Maya as much of a criminal as they can- oh but that's alright because she has a mental illness, regardless of whether said mental illness ever manages to instill sympathy in the audience. smh.

Tbh, I'm also really disappointed that Maya's "mental illness" is being used as an excuse for all her actions. Is it just me or is it getting tiring to see mental illnesses being portrayed negatively? It sends such a wrong message. I wish they'd done something better with Maya. :/
