I had great expectations from this show, even though I knew that the primary focus would be on Maya's obsessive and controlling love for Arjun. It started off well, with a lot of emphasis on Maya's past and PTSD stemming from her childhood- but now it's going down the drain. The writers are failing at what should've been their main motive, trying to get the audience's sympathy for Maya even through her morally reprehensible actions. Now Maya's character is just any average evil villain on any Indian TV show, except that she has a mental illness that the writers don't give a shit about, except to somehow use it as an excuse for what she does, without putting in any efforts whatsoever to get the audience to feel even a shred of sympathy for Maya.
Meh. I feel cheated, mostly. I went in expecting myself to love Maya the way I loved Kilgrave from Jessica Jones, but now I'm just disappointed.Edit: The difference between Maya and Kilgrave, though, is worlds apart. Maya is the protagonist, so the writers should've actively worked to get people's sympathy for her. Kilgrave was an antagonist, was portrayed negatively, with no excuse whatsoever for his actions. I still love his character because of how it was executed, and even without any efforts from the writers, I still managed to feel bad for Kilgrave at times.Maya, though, is now a shitty excuse for a "misguided" protagonist gone awry. There's so much that could've been done with her but sigh.
