I don't think they meant literally three times his age...like sukhs said 2 times her age would have made him 36, which is not bad at all...but to add that extra effect they made him 3 times, doesn't mean he actually is. Sati ji about the no offence to RR part, since RR is not 54, there is no need to mention RR and any offence meant to him, we know that it's the character that he is playing. The fact that the character doesn't look 54 is a different story.

DM is not a victim. And besides DM is not forcing Santo to marry him, the villagers made a big deal that no one will marry Santo and all, he didn't take Mahesh away from the mandap, he didn't do anything wrong. He is marrying for his selfish reasons, but at the same time, he is trying to give hope to Naanu that everything is gonna be okay...intentionally or unintentionally.

First of all I wonder if the villagers or Khemi know the real age of DM - what Khemi mentioned has to be a ballpark difference. DM is definitely more than twice her age (36) so I would put him in the 40-42 range.
Santo is definitely the victim here. First she had to agree to marry the loser Mahesh against her wishes. And now she is forced to marry an older man. DM is not a victim in the same way as Santo but he is a victim of circumstances none the less. All he wanted to do was get his consignment done. The real culprits here are Jaggu, Virat and Mahesh.
At the temple DM has been put in a very difficult position - what the Guruji referred to as the 'chakravyuha'. Now along with his ego, his reputation and integrity are also at stake as Jaggu has the villagers thinking that 'maalik' is the conspirator behind Mahesh disappearing. Added to that, the izzat of Nanaji and Santo are also at stake.
I agree with Sammie that DM is not forcing Santo to marry him. If she would have come forward and said she did not want to marry him he would have walked away. It is the villagers fueled by Jaggu who are forcing both Nanaji and Santo to go ahead with the wedding. So what if he is an older man, the trade off is that she will get to be the 'maalkin'.

Exactly Hema ben, and as it is no one would have married her because she was left at the mandap...and if DM dies then at least she got the chance to marry once,..instead of none at all. She would get the status of the malkin...money may not be everything, but it is very important.
And like Hema ben said, Khemi just gave a ball park difference he is not in his 50s he may be in his early 40s max.
Both DM and Santo are victims because they didn't want to get married...both could say no, but they didn't say no because of the pressure that was on them.

My POV: Since this just a fiction and since RR is DM, Santo is not a 'bali ka bakra', infact, she has been handed heaven in a silver platter. Sure, she has a bit of work to do to enter heaven. Who wouldn't in her shoes? On the other hand, Dharamraj ji ............ 😕, after what he had, this is toh going in the negatives yaar .....Mrs. PSDM (doesn't even sound nearly as nice as, Mrs. PCCB )

Cause its just a story, I choose to see it the way I like it 😳.

I don't think DM is thrice that of Santu's age; its very difficult to stick to detailing in a daily soap and hence the dialouge writers might have bungled up the age difference! As soap-critic puts it, DM would be around 40+ of age (Actually we might get a better idea when his family is shown...especially his children, if he has any!)
Plus, Ekta has promoted Bandini as a love story and she would know very well that a primarily Indian audience would never accept a romantic relationship between two people who share such a huge age difference. Her two other serials which had the leads sharing an age difference (KZK and KS) were dealt in a very good way and the chemistry between the lead actors was superb! So going by that experience, I think Ekta knows what she is doing in Bandini too!
Coming back to the marriage, DM has not forced Santu to marry her...the scenario here is a village set-up, a place where it is given that a girl once rejected in marriage would probably never get married again. So for Santu, the choice was between not getting married ever again (lets not compare her with Khemi here, because she can get married after six years) or getting married to someone who is much older than her. It is her family and the villagers who had taken the decision on her behalf, not Dharamraj!
Agreed that DM has acted on purely selfish reasons, but then so has everyone...right from Nanaji to the villagers...they all want to see their community's daughter wedded to the richest and most powerful man in the village.
Santu might be the Bali ka Bakra, because she really doesn't have a choice in hands, never did...but at the same time, I don't think DM is the butcher here!

My mom was watching this show yesterday, and I must say I was intrigued.

About the age issue, honestly, I just pretend that they are no more then 10 to fifteen years apart. Even if they keep repeating that there is an age difference between Santu and DM, I ignore it and pretend.

Its just fiction folks, just pretend.

Because if I really thought about their situation, I fear I may vomit.

What is the big deal about age difference anyway? Agreed that an age differene of more than 2 decades seems insurmountable, but marriage is primarily an issue of compatibility, respect, understanding and eventually love and if two people can find all these in their relationship, age becomes a non-issue.
Besides, what guarantee is there that a young man might not die sooner than say an older one. Odds are that if a man is much older than a woman, he would die first, but its not a given fact....the same thing can happen to a much younger man too.
What is more important is the amount of happiness & love found in a realtionship, even if for a short period of time will weight much more than a long life which is loveless.
(On a different note, if any of you read Jane Austens' novels, you would have noticed that most of her protogonists share a huge difference in age, yet end up finding eternal love...be it Marianne and Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility or Emma and Mr. Knightley in the novel, Emma.)

Welcome to the forum Tashmin, this is Sukhi here.. hope to see you dropping by more often ..
Getting back to what you just suggested, the villagers are exagerrating because clearly DM is MORE than twice her age and he just CANT be thrice her age .. hell no one would watch the show - it's just not digestable .. the villagers have rounded it off to the nearest 10 !
LOL
Anyways I am in heavenly denial that such a dialogue was ever said ..
EK ko ek galti maaf ..
