Too many tracks, inconsistent characterization

CVs have opened up too many tracks too soon. They start a track and leave it unresolved. And they keep sacrificing characterization for drama.

Gauri started out as a positive character, went grey and then finally onto a high-strung drama queen overcome with insecurities.

Anandi keeps oscillating between being a strong woman standing up for everyone's rights to meekly accepting what's doled out to her - two steps forward, one step back. Maybe she is not clear about what she wants and hence does not stand up for herself.

Shiv was a no-nonsense man who would not suffer any fool and now he is silently letting others take the steering wheel in his life. Perhaps he is majboor because of his love for Anandi and his family.

Jagat was a reactive bigdaa hua shahzaada who thought working in an "unhygienic" government (I think) hospital was way beneath him and now he is perfectly at ease playing the even-tempered saviour in a small-town hospital. And that's just one 180-degree turn from him.

The only consistent characterization in BV are the villagers in Jaitsar. It takes one incident for them to proclaim someone a saint or sinner. Anandi is characterless! Let's make Anandi sarpanch! Punish Jagdish! We wuvvvs Dr. Jagya! Their memory retention powers are shorter than a goldfish.

In the Anandi-Shiv story, there is the Urmi Devi drama, CM's objections, DS melting, Saanchi's upcoming tantrum-ama and then the mega-whammy of Jagat He-Who-Will-Soon-Walk-On-Water Singh.

It's understandable that there needs to be some drama and only a love-story can get boring. But right now it's only illogical drama with some scraps of Anandi-Shiv daawat romance thrown in. There is no substantial story.

CVs should have at least given some time to developing the Anandi-Shiv love before bringing in the negativity. Their relationship is so fragile and is now beset with crap from all directions. Had the CVs spent some time in making the Anandi-Shiv romance solid, could have abided the negativity because would be convinced the couple is together and can fight all the demons together.

For now, would be great if CVs can show Shiv and Anandi stand up for themselves and each other and not tolerating anyone hurting the other even a little bit. Would also like CVs to show that these two are aware of stuff going on around them and then taking steps to counter it. Like the Heth Singh track where a smirking Shiv let the fella walk into the trap.

In particular, I would like Anandi to make up to Shiv not only for having to patiently tolerate Jagat but for:
  • Her yelling at him for wanting to marry her.
  • Her cold-shouldering him for trying to show sympathy post DS proposal.
  • Her forced marriage proposal.
  • Her long bout of sulkiness pre- and during sagaai.
Would also be nice if she can send him something she made herself, like she made for Ashima. She's probably not completely in love yet but one shows a lot of concern for one's best friend too. If not love, her making up can come from that place. Her best friend is upset and she should make him feel better. Like he does.

For Gauri, I'd like to see her move on in life - she's better off without Jagat. There should be some resolution to her track.

@ Red Queen.,
As a concerned audience...cannot agree with u more.
Right now., there is absolutely no balance between positivity and negativity in the story...
Unless this delicate balance is achieved., the story may lose its charm very soon...and may be too late., by the time CV's strike this balance.
For the story to strike this much desired balance...the negativity from J in conjuncture with some out of the blue positive moments he comes up with ...should be tackled with Anandi's positiveness w.r.t her yet unrealised rishta with Shiv and Shiv's strength as a Collector who knows his job...
The character profiles of Anandi and Shiv needs to come out of the hiding...as soon as possible and CV's need to prioritise on this aspect.
Otherwise...it is now J... all the way...😕

Quite an intresting post! What I majorly agree with is that A till date has been shown quite unthoughtful or silent abt Shiv's emotions. You wud hardly see her introspecting abt Shiv's emotions. It seems she is quite oblivious to them.I agree even I sometimes feel that on an emotional front she doesnt do for Shiv what she does for a stranger.BUt I think there is a reason behind cvs showing all this.A is a keen observer and doesnt express much. What all she feels for SHiv is a build up till date.I am sure it will come out at the correct time and when it will come out she will leave everyone dumbstruck. Its just that she knows that S is a strong man and she doesnt need to stand for him in front of J.She quite knows the difference between S and J.

The day her dam of patience will break...she will let her love flow.😳

Totally waiting for Anandi's positivity and dam breaking.

I keep telling myself BV is a serial and not a movie where it's Act 1, Act 2, resolution and curtains within 2 hours. So need to give CVs time to build a track even if it is monumentally irrational and negative. I sometimes react to this serial's episodes like a Jaitsar villager. Kabhi CVs ki jai jai kaar and then I hate them.

Wonderful post !

I so agree that I like the CVs one day and hate them the next day. Become a pendulum sometimes trying to understand what they want to show. And even their speed sometimes amazes me. They made Shiv fall in love in like just a month ! And then sometimes they are slow, which we are supposed to perceive as detailing !

They definitely better give a good explanation of the bloopers that have happened this week. Hopefully they don't forget about it like the way Anandi forgot her Jagya sensing abilities overnight !

@dixie123 Splendid analysis. You are so bang on with the super speed/super slow track changes! The speed with which Shiv fell in love was astonishing.

Yup, I hope they explain all the bloopers. There is suspension of disbelief jo karna padta hai in any entertainment show par yahan toh it is the theatre of the absurd aka logic gaya tel lene.

Great post - I agree with your whole asessment. Right now I have given upwatching it live. Only record and watch most of it on FFW or read the wriiten update. Not enjoying this negative track at all.

@AreYaar Love your profile pic. I cried my eyes out in that scene in Udaan.

@avadvani I have given up watching BV live too. Check the written update and only then dare to watch it. And, like you, ffw all negativity.

Thank you all so much for your comments 😊.

TheRedQueen, its a very nice analyis.
You have voiced almost everything, that lot of loyal audience feels regarding the current track and characterisation.
The only hope is that CVs read this and make prompt changes to keep the audience intact.
Most Indian TV shows like this fail or come to closure, because audience would have lost interest with a slow, inconsistent track.
