Neha Marda engaged

Neha Marda, aka Gehna from Balika Vadhu, got engaged to her fianc Aayushman Aggarwal on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritya May 6.

An Indya source states, "The ceremony took place at Aayushman's hometown Patna. The couple's parents brought them together."

Neha too confirms, "Yes, we got engaged on May 6 at Golf Club in Patna. The ceremony took place in a hurry as Aayushman and I announced our decision to get engaged on May 1. The theme of the ceremony was yellow but I wanted to stand out so I wore a blue sari. My outfit was designed by Palak and Pankaj. We managed to make the arrangements in whatever little time we had. We had live ghazal singers to entertain the guests."

Talking about how she met him, Neha smiles, "We met at the insistence of our respective parents. I had decided that I don't want to marry Aayushman since he lives in Patna. He too was clear that he does not want to marry an actress. However, we met as our parents coaxed us and when we did, things just clicked. I could not say no after getting to know him." Clearly in love, Neha gushes while talking about her fianc, "Aayushman and his dad are the sole distributors of Raymonds suiting and shirting in four states of the country and he is doing very well in his business."

Neha plans to tie the knot soon and has already started planning for the wedding. The actress smiles, "Most probably the wedding will be on Feburary 10 next year. We have already booked the venue as it is a prominent wedding hall in Kolkata."

We congratulate Neha and Aayushman and wish them a happy future together.

Anandi breaks her silence

Anandi, who was in utter shock about her husband's infidelity, will break her silence. Though everyone in the house was shocked by the news, she didn't utter a word.

A Indya source says, "Anandi loved Jagya from the bottom of her heart, but now is totally heart broken. After days of trying to come to terms with the situation, she will speak her mind. Tayji (Gehna) will tell Anandi to fight for her rights and get justice. But Anandi in a dramatic manner will answer that she might get justice but will she get the same love and care from him? She doesn't want to force Jagya to be with her as before. Now, the audiences will see a different Anandi. She will concentrate on her studies and will try to forget Jagya. But there is a bigger twist coming up."

A disheartened Anandi aka Pratyusha Banerjee states, "I am completely depressed with all that has happened in my life. I can't force Jagya to come back to me as I have lost my husband's love. I can't force him to stay with me. I just want to concentrate on my studies and my family now."

Talking about the response of fans for this track, she says, "No one can believe that Anandi-Jagya's married life is destroyed. People are consoling me and telling to give a Jagya a tight slap for ruining my life. While others, give me courage to fight the battle of truth and justice."

Don't forget to watch Balika Vadhu every Monday to Thursday at 8 pm only on Colors.

Neha Marda to learn kitchen politics

TNN | Jun 1, 2011, 12.00am IST

Shows on Indian television have been revolving around kitchen politics for decades now, but now there's politics in the kitchen, literally!

The leading ladies are busy perfecting their strategies for winning the title of " Kitchen Champion" in the fourth season of the show on Colors. Interestingly, Neha Marda (Gehna), who got engaged recently, has been practising cooking at home as she's going to become a bahu in real life too.

Since she knows that her in-laws will be scrutinising her performance on the show, she's not leaving anything to chance. Simran Kaur, Dia – Ammaji's granddaughter – has another legacy to uphold. Ammaji's family had won the show's first and second seasons, and Simran has taken it upon herself to restore the title. On the other hand, Anandi, played by Pratyusha Banerjee, wants to keep her character's legacy going strong as Anandi never fails in anything she puts her mind to. Pratyusha says, "I can't let my viewers down. Just like Anandi, I am going to work hard to produce dishes of culinary perfection." Mataji (Jayati Bhatia), the fourth and the eldest contestant on the show, has years of experience of whipping up meals for her family, and wants her cooking talent to be highlighted.

This is one kitchen battle you'll love to sit and watch. So everyone, bring out the gourmet popcorn!

THREES COMPANY

Love with a dash of twist and twirls is now so very common in television shows

Amrita Mulchandani

Indians just cant have enough of love.At least on screen. We are all game for anything that stirs the heart. No wonder then, taking a cue from big screen, now the small screen also swears by the love mantra.Love stories are a safe bet while love triangle adds its share of masala entertainment. This is precisely why maximum shows today have love triangle tracks as an element.Take a look at some of them.In Looteri Dulhan Abhinav who is just married to Billo is already married to Suman;in Pavitra Rishta Dharmesh is married to Madhuri but yet marries Vaishali (besides theres a buzz that Manav and Archanas relationship will be under threat with the entry of a new female character); in Balika Vadhu,Jagdish is married to Anandi but he falls in love with Gauri;in Sanjog Se Bani Sangini Rudra is married to Gauri but his ex-girl friend Pihu wants him back;in Preet Se Bandhi Yeh Dori... Ram Milaye Jodi Anukalp and Mona are married but theres Aanchal Anukalps childhood friend in the background;in Uttaran Veer is married to Ichcha, but ex-wife Tapasya wants him;in Navya Anant and Navya have just fallen in love but with Shaguns entry things go haywire between them;in Yeh Ishq Haye Manjari and Akshay are in love yet Manjaris sister Pooja also loves him;in Gunaho Ka Devta Avdesh and Arpita are a couple while Bahuji is also falling for Avdesh;in Kesariya Balam Aavo Hamare Des Rukmini and Rasal are sisters who love the same guy Ranveer;in D h o o n d h L e g i Manzil Humein Chander and Alka are in love and Aarti also likes Chander.
Romance becomes monotonous without drama and drama comes with a love triangle track. When the viewers get attached to a couple on screen they also like to see what happens when that love is threatened. If theres romance, then conflict needs to be added via an extra person to make the story interesting. Moreover a love story without hurdles is not a love story.People like to see love triangle in TV shows as they normally dont have it in their lives, says producerdirector Rajan Shahi.
Arent love triangles pass They have been done to death,so why are they still being shown again and again in daily soaps Love triangles are nt exactly what the shows are targeting at.It is a third person angle that is going on in the show even in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge Mandira Bedi was attracted to Shah Rukh Khan.In real life also there is alw ay s s o m e - o n e else who l i ke s y o u ap a r t f ro m yo u r partner. These tracks are used to enhance the story line and make it more dramatic, says producer Sudhir Sharma.
Love stories depend a lot on these issues. It isnt that once the track is a hit others will follow but well we have followers in all spheres of life.Today family dramas also have the another person angle as it adds a lot of spice.Secondly, the volume in the number of channels and shows have also increased,so the number of the tracks visible in the show will have to be be more, says producer Hemal Thakkar.
These tracks at times also affect the lead actors character. In the past Mr Bajaj (then played by Ronit Roy) was introduced in Kasauti Zindagi Ki for a change in the story line but he then became an essential part of the show. And thus Cezzane Khan who was the lead was side lined.Do the actors feel insecure when these characters are being introduced If you are talented, people will appreciate you.It doesnt matter if newer characters are introduced for drama. The makers will always put you in the lime light if you get them good TRPs.The other person is important in love stories otherwise it would be boring.I am fine with new characters being introduced, says actor Shaheer Sheikh.
With the teen ka tadka working wonderfully in the current storylines, its time to sit back and enjoy the show.

From top: (L-R ): Additi Gupta,Iqbal Khan and Binny Sharma in Sanjog Se Bani Sangini,Nandish Sandhu,Tina Dutta and Rashmi Desai in Uttaran,Danica,Shaheer Shaikh,Soumya Seth in Navya

Quiz her about playing only positive characters and pat comes the reply,It is a sheer coincidence that so far I have been offered only positive roles.Given a chance I would love to play negative roles, says this Jaipur girl who will be seen in Khatron Ke Khiladi-4 Torchaar on Colors.
Ask her if she is adventurous by nature, she says,Iam a risk taker.I have taken many adventurous decisions in real life,be it selecting acting as career against my familys wishes or deciding to marry a man just after dating him for seven days. But I had never thought of indulging in daredevilry things! Talking about the experience she says,It was the most thrilling experience filled with fear and anxiety.I had deep water phobia and the water stunts were the scariest part for me.But I am glad I did KKK4 as I have conquered my fears to some extent.
So,does Smita find the competition getting fierce with many new comers entering the industry Bacche aayenge toh bhi maa baap toh rahenge hi na If you know your strength and weaknesses and if you are an established and grounded actor nothing should bother you, she says confidently. So does she connect with the characters she plays Coming from Rajasthan,I believe in Indian tradition and values.I am easy going and accept what comes to me happily, says the actor signing off.

Daadisa: played by Surekha Sikri in Balika Vadhu

Surekha Sikri in Balika Vadhu

Daadisa is the ultimate character and is beautifully played by Surekha Sikri. You cannot imagine anyone else but Surekhaji doing this role. You get to learn so much just by watching her perform.

She comes across as unforgiving at times but that's the way the character is supposed to be. She is orthodox yet loving. She behaves according to circumstances.

Smita Bansal in Balika Vadhu

Sumithra becomes a mother to her daughter-in-law (Anandi) in the truest sense. At times we get the feeling that she has given more love to her daughter-in-law than her own children. She has done her duties very well as a mother-in-law.
