hai hai garmi uff uff garmi

The summer is here and everyone is trying to escape the wrath of the scorching sun. Our television stars are not behind as they find ways of beating the heat and be cool this hot season.

  • Neha Marda
"Every season has its own flavour so does summer. I have lots of watermelon, lychee and orange juice, basically fruits rich in water content. I avoid having papaya in summer. I never step out without sun block any time of the year. Summer also gives me an opportunity to wear shorts and cottons as I love wearing shorts. I tie my hair up so that I don't feel hot.

Anoop, Juhi Soni at an event in Mumbai

TNN | May 2, 2011, 12.00am IST

Shouts of 'once more' were heard coming from this suburban auditorium Saturday night.

And why not? After all, when there are stalwarts like Usha Uthup, Sukhwinder Singh and Richa Sharma performing on stage, requests for encores are bound to happen! Juhi Babbar Soni and hubbyAnoop Soni, who compered the do, seemed to be having a ball on stage. Sushant Singh Rajput's energetic dance performance had everyone cheering and clapping their hands. Aarya Babbar's performance was also appreciated by the audience.

When Usha was crooning on stage, Richa and Aarya joined her in an impromptu moment, which had the audience also joining them in the singing.

Jashn Ki Raat with the stars

Ekjute theatre group, founded by prominent theatre personality Mrs. Nadira Zaheer Babbar and her husband Mr. Raj Babbar, celebrated 30 years of its existence in a unique manner.

A fund raising event- Jashnn Ki Raat was held for the welfare of backstage workers.

The event was hosted by their daughter Juhi and son-in-law Anoop Soni, popularly known as Bhairon from Balika Vadhu. It was for the first time that the recently married couple hosted a show together. Speaking about the experience Anoop says, "Hosting the show was an enriching experience as it was not just any regular show but had a special purpose attached to it. It was for the first time that I hosted an event with Juhi and that is what made it even more special. We did not even have a script as we knew what we wanted to speak about, so we just went with the flow."

Sushant Singh Rajput aka Manav from Pavitra Rishta performed on a medley of Bollywood hits at the event. Recalling his days as a student at Ekjute the actor says, "I had been a part of Ekjute theatre group for two years and have done many plays for them. It felt good to be back performing for them."

Renowned singers Sukhwinder Singh, Usha Uthup and Richa Sharma also performed at Jashnn Ki Raat. When Usha was performing, Aarya babbar and Richa sharma joined her in an impromptu act that was highly entertaining.

This was surely a Jashnn Ki Raat.

    Shashank Vyas:
For me every day that I had spent with my mom was memorable as she passed away in 2009. But, I regret every moment where I back answered her or did not listen to her. How I wish I could ask her to forgive me now.
I feel mothers have a sixth sense and they know what's going to happen in your life next. Hence I would want every person to listen to their moms. And it's only because of my mom's blessings that has brought me here today.

Smita Bansal, known for her serenity, surprised us and even herself by participanting in a stunt based reality show. She is currently seen as a doting bahu in Balika Vadhu.

So, was the decision to be part of the reality show an attempt to break the stereotype? "Not at all. I have loved all the characters that I have potrayed so far. I have no qualms about playing the saree clad demure wife or mother at all."

"With my jam packed schedule, I can't take up another daily. So, when this offer came to me, I said 'Why not?'. I am neither here to prove a point to someone nor is it the lure of money, but just that I find this very exciting. I haven't done anything like this before. And meeting Akshay is like icing on the cake," she says.

Ask her what's that one thing that scares her the most, she reveals, "I am a bit timid and water is something I know I am scared of. Baki height ya slimy insects se mujhe itna darr nahi lagta."

In a chat with SOHINI DEY, popular TV actress Neha Marda spills the beans about her lustrous locks and healthy skin.

Neha Marda first sprang into the limelight with Boogie Woogie. The petite beauty from Kolkata participated in the wildly popular dance show thrice and won each time. Although becoming an actor was never an ambition Neha harboured, showbiz was clearly destined for her. "While I was preparing for my 11th standard exams, I got a call from Sahara One to audition for a role," she explains. Neha breezed through the auditions and bagged a role in Saath Rahega Always. The show did not last long, but Neha was noticed. The year 2009 was good for her, as she landed the role of Gehna in Balika Vadhu. Essaying the role of a young girl forcibly married off to a much older man, Gehna became a household name almost immediately. But Neha admits, "I could not relate to Gehna initially…I was so far removed from her that it was difficult to understand what she was going through. With workshops and stringent shoot requirements (she was instructed not to speak much to Satyajit Sharma and Surekha Sikri, who played her husband and mother-in-law, respectively), Gehna gradually became a part of me." As her character's importance on the show increased, so did Neha's popularity. Today, more than a year later, the young actress is one of the most recognised faces on television.

Being constantly in the limelight (quite literally!) makes Neha susceptible to skin and hair damage. "People may say that beauty is skin deep, but I believe that unless you take care of yourself,

your beauty will not sustain itself," she says. When it comes to her skin, Neha believes in round-the-clock care. Regular cleansing and moisturising keeps her skin problem-free and glowing. "It's very, very important for us to take good care of our skin," she says. "There's so much that it goes through." Neha uses a night cream before she sleeps and sunscreen during the day, even under make-up. Ask her which products she swears by and pat comes the reply, "Wet tissues, rose water and lots of water."

"Hair is really a woman's crown jewel and we must take good care of it." Neha has naturally long hair and she regularly goes for oil massages as well as nourishing treatments for her tresses. She also applies a combination of almond and olive oil and indulges in relaxing steam treatments. One haircare product she recommends for everyone is Parachute Therapie hair oil, "It's an easily available product and does wonders for the hair." For this rising star, natural care and a simple beauty routine are clearly the way to g
