Anandi's behavior irks viewers of Balika Vadhu!

on Wednesday at 12:23pm
Many viewers are finding the "mahaanta" of Anandi too much to digest! The girl has been playing a "poor me" victim and refuses to say anything to her wimp of a husband who has done nothing except torture in the recent episodes.

Jagya has married Gauri and got her home. He is not bothered about Anandi's feelings and is completely unaware of the havoc he has caused. However, Anandi is determined to act superhuman even now. She serves Jagya and Gauri food and doesn't utter a word. She is trying to be the exemplary bahu who doesn't fight for her rights and just has endless amount of patience! We thought that this soap is trying to show the evils of child marriage but the situation seems to be different. The soap is actually being used as an example of how a woman should behave.

On one hand, Anandi is turning into a martyr. On the other end, Gauri, the educated and the modern woman is completely going rural! Her speeches about rights has gone down the drain and she is happy in the same marriage, which she has abhorred from her very child hood! Quite a paradox, isn't it?

Neha Marda and Ayushman Agrawal

Neha Marda, popularly known as Gehna from Balika Vadhu is all set to get married next year in February to Ayushman Agrawal, a Patna-based businessman. In an interview with Tellychakkar, visibly excited Neha reveals some of her wedding plans.

On wedding venue…
It's happening on February 10, 2012 in Kolkata.

On meeting Ayushman Agrawal…
Ours will be an arranged marriage. Our parents wanted to meet, so his family and my family met in Mumbai at a city hotel. Ayushman is basically from Patna. He had come down to Mumbai for a business conference and that is how we met for the first time. We were sure that we are meeting each other just for the sake of it and we did not really think of getting married. But our parents were convinced about us getting married to each other and finally we met and liked each other.

On Ayushman…
Ayushman is basically from Patna and he owns a business. He has done his education from Mumbai.

On first date…
As I told you earlier, Ayushman has completed his studies from Mumbai. So he is familiar with the city and the best places to hangout here. One day he asked me where I would like to go and I told him that he can take me anywhere. We finally went to Aurus, as it is my favourite place to dine. The whole idea of candle light dinner actually worked and it was truly beautiful.

On things you like about Ayushman…
Interestingly, when my parents asked me to meet Ayushman, I thought it would be a typical scene of boy meeting a girl. However, during the first date he talked about all the things that I might not like. He told me that he is from Patna, and I might not stay there. I liked his honesty which is the most adorable thing about him.

On wedding preparations…
The wedding is taking place in February next year so there is still a lot of time. But, we have started buying jewellery as the rates of diamond and gold are increasing every day. The venue, the caterers, decorators, event management all has been decided. Things are there in my mind, I just need more time to implement. The shopping will be done across India and I have started purchasing sarees. Gold doesn't suit me so I am going for diamonds, kundan, jadaus. I don't believe in exaggeration and simplicity is very essential for me.

On designer…
There are many special occasions that happen during a wedding, and to make them special my Indian clothes will be designed by Pankaj and Palak. They have always designed my Indian clothes. But my wedding trouser would be either designed by Neeta Lulla or Sabyasacchi Mukherjee.

On preferred colours…
For haldi I will be wearing yellow as it is the tradition, for mehendi I will wear green, and my wedding trouser would either be pink or orange.

On wedding rituals…
It will happen in a typical Rajashtani way. In fact small rituals have already begun. I keep going to Banaras, as there are different customs that keep happening every now and then.

On honeymoon plans…
I have never travelled outside India and Ayushman has been all around the world. He wants to keep the venue a secret, but I guess it will be somewhere in Europe.

On quitting acting…
No not at all. But, the amount of work that I am doing will definitely go down, as after marriage my first priority would be family.

On wedding guest list...
My entire Balika Vadhu team, Ek Thi Rajkumari team, the producers, creative directors, DOP's, and all the channels that I have worked with. Smita Bansal and her husband Ankush Mohla, Pratyusha, Shashank Vyas, Anoop Soni and the entire cre

The new Gauri-Jagya-Anandi triangle seems to be capturing the attention of a lot of viewers these days. Viewers are keen to know Dadisa's master plan which will help Jagya to realize Anandi's importance in his life! For now Dadisa has seemingly accepted Gauri as Jagya's wife and emotionally blackmailed the two to stay with her. So what will be her next plan?

Gauri has married Jagya with the intention of seeking revenge from the family which betrayed her in her childhood. However, it seems now tables will be turned because Dadisa will show Gauri the true meaning of becoming her 'beendni' . She will be made to eat in Jagya's thali, will need to do all the housework, make adrak chai several times a day and generally act like an exemplary bahu like Anandi!

As of now Gauri has not turned negative but it looks like that with Dadisa's upcoming treatment, she will be forced to turn negative to exact revenge. After all, she is an educated woman and will not take things lying down as Anandi has done in all these years. Probably, this is where Dadisa will show Jagya the difference between Anandi and Gauri!

What do you think? Will things be different after Gauri is shown the real picture!

Pratyusha talks about pressures of a TV actor

Kavita Awaasthi / Hill Road Media

Life of a daily soap actor is full of highs and lows, be it hanging on to the TRPs or worrying about holiday. Recently Pratyusha Banerjee, coincidentally went through both the highs and the lows with her show finally regaining high trps and later she suffered some injuries in a car accident. Pratyusha talks about the roller coaster ride her life has been.

Showing 1 of 7 images Previous Next

There are too many demands on a daily soap actor. How do you handle the pressure?
I have to give my production house due credit as they gave me three days off after the accident to recuperate at home. It is a lot for daily soaps as it is not possible to be away from shooting when you have to deliver the episode at the end of the day. They cooperated with me and facilitated me as much as they could. They even let me pack up early and I can't thank them enough. As for pressure, well I realised soon that in this career, pressure is a given and I make sure not to take work home. When I leave my shooting, I switch off from Anandi and become Pratyusha. That helps.

Tell us about your recent accident?
I was travelling by car on Kandivali highway when my car bumped into the car in front of us. The impact was strong and as I was sitting shotgun and not wearing my seat belt, I hurt myself pretty badly. I injured my spine, neck and arms. I had bruises all over.

We heard you couldn't rest for two weeks as advised by doctors due to shootings.
The doctors told me to be admitted for two weeks and recuperate properly but that is an impossible thing in the world of television actors. There were telecast issues and I couldn't have taken that long leave from the show, especially now that the Jagya-Anandi-Gauri track is going on so well.

How are you able to shoot then?
I would pop pain killers and shoot. My co stars and production crew take care of me. They are always looking out, and make me comfortable. I try not to exert myself much and rest as much as I can. But while shooting or rehearsals, I have to give it all.

How is it feeling to have Balika Vadhu garnering high TRPs?
The trps have gone up after a year and it thrills me to no end. It is always satisfying to see that your work is appreciated. As the show was always one of the top grosser, the expectations were always high. I am really happy that we delivered and the audiences love the show's current story line.

What are you enjoying the most about the current track?
Everything- the tension, the twists, the drama and the excitement in the show. In fact, I was happy to know that I won the Gold award for the best debutant. I couldn't attend the event as I was in Jaipur and I regret that I missed the occasion. But Smita di, who plays my saas in Balika Vadhu, took the award on my behalf. It was a high for me.

What do people advice Anandi to do in this situation?
People tell me to shout at Jagya, fight for my right and not give up. They want me to help him come back into the family fold.

The revelations in Balika Vadhu!

on Tuesday at 10:55am
Finally the big secret is out in Colors' popular soap "Balika Vadhu". Dadisa has been hiding the ace up her sleeve but has now finally decided to show her hand. Yesterday, she told her kids that she has deliberately asked Jagya and Gauri to stay back because she wants Jagya to realize the difference between Anandi and Gauri!

According to her while Anandi is a demure and a good natured girl, Gauri is brash, outspoken and stubborn. Hence, it won't be long before Jagya realizes that Anandi is the best for him! It seems the clan is all ready to create misunderstandings and problems between Gauri and Jagya in order to win Jagya back! So, what will we see in the near future? More plots, plans and schemes to throw Gauri out of their lives?

All right, seems like a nice plan! After all, the best way to make a person realize the value of something is to let him experience something exactly opposite! But, why should only Gauri pay the prize? It was Jagya who insisted on marrying Gauri, it was he, who told her a bunch of lies, so why should he not bear the consequences? Any thoughts?

How many of you are watching Bade Acche Lagte Hain on Sony TV? Branded as a mature love story the show has Sakshi Tanwar and Ram Kapoor in the leading roles. This is a story of two different individuals who fall in love after marriage. The interesting thing is the fact that the leads are both over 30 years of age unlike the current shows that have teenage love stories. So why is it that this genre of mature love stories hasn't much been explored on the small screen? Is it because by nature Indians are shy and would not want to watch older couples in love; more so on TV shows which are watched at home with the family? Or is it because even by nature elder couples even in real life are supposed to exercise restraint and showing them falling in love is not acceptable to society at large?

In that context, we can say Bade Acche Lagte Hain is a progressive show as it touches upon a sensitive and delicate subject.

All too often, older characters are treated as asexual caricatures. The irony is that one often sees aged heroes romancing girls half their ages. And this is pathetic.

In Bollywood too one finds a similar scene happening. There are scores of young love stories but not many directors dare to make a mature love story. You rarely come across a Cheeni Kum which was an unconventional love story between a 34-year-old woman and an older man of 64. In 2005, one saw the film Pyar Mein Twist where the basic theme was that elders too can have something else in their lives other than children and family. The love between Rishi and Dimple is not an emotion of physical desires, but a longing to find a soul mate. But as I mentioned earlier these are rare attempts.

On the small screen shows which focus on older couples in love are either dealt very superficially or insensitively that it doesn't appeal at all. Mature love stories that reflect on companionship in the twilight years of life are waiting to be told. Our society needs to grow up to accept mature relationships and not frown on them. There is a serious message in such stories that needs to be sent to the society. Marriages between senior couples should be encouraged.

When Astitva - Ek Prem Kahani was launched on Zee TV initially it did receive some flak from critics. The story which focused on Dr Simran Mathur – a gynecologist who marries a man 10 years younger – was a path breaking one and very well told. But not the same can be told of many others which just barely touched on this issue.

Balaji's Kasauti Zindagi Kay had an older Bajaj (Ronit Roy) in love with Prerna (Shweta Tiwari), a Dharamraj (Ronit Roy) marrying a very young Santu (Aasiya Kazi) in Bandini and a very young Gehna (Neha Marda) marrying a much older Basant (Satyajit Sharma) in Balika Vadhu. These may not be bracketed as all mature love stories but definitely fall in that category as showing love blossoming between such couples is not much shown on the small screen. In fact in Mukti Bandhan when one sees the lead I M Virani's (Shiv Subramaniam) ex-love Chandraprabha (Deepti Naval) one can for sure notice some discomfort with the viewers.

Older people do fall in love as falling in love is quite natural. In fact, it's about time we touched on this subject and got more open about it. The stereotypical characters need to be phased out. Didn't we all enjoy the very unusual show Dardin which a bold Neena Gupta marries an older man and then has an extra-marital affair with a younger man? Sure, this was a taboo topic and probably sent a wrong message to the society but isn't this what one sees in day to day life too? Isn't this as much real as a young couple falling in love? Furthermore, even from the actors' perspective – for all those actors who are in the older age group – such roles are welcome. Most of them who have been phased out as they have crossed the age bar to play the typical hero or heroine do not get challenging work. How often are they offered roles that are more realistic and written for them keeping their age in mind? Now with some producers taking up such projects veteran actors are once again donning greasepaint. So isn't this a win-win situation for all?

It's about time we stopped being hypocrites and accepted the fact that it's okay to fall in love…be at any age. And yes, it's okay to hold hands and exchange a kiss- age no bar!

You can call him 'Bad' or 'Dangerous', but still he was the most loved and adored pop star all across the globe. Indeed, we are talking about Michael Joseph Jackson, the one and only 'King of Pop' who mesmerised the world with his cult moon walking dance steps. The legend's magic was such that there is hardly anyone who has not been inspired by the genius' work. The entire world came to a standstill when MJ suffered a cardiac arrest and breathed his last on June 25, 2009 creating a void in the musical world that can never be filled.

On his second death anniversary musicians and dancers come together to mourn the loss of the King who has left behind a vast gamut of work that would be remembered by all forever.

  • Neha Marda
I don't think anyone would say that MJ 'was', but he 'is' with us right now. He will always be in our heart. He has been the inspiration of so many dancers across the globe. He was truly a destiny's child and his life was full of beats, rhythms and vibrancy. Remembering him on his death anniversary, I would like to salute him for all the love he has showered on this world.
  • Iqbal Khan
He was simply awesome. I don't think there is a soul on this world who will say that he or she is not a fan of this legend. He was a true artist. People talked a lot negative about him but it is part and parcel of being so famous. Truth is that God doesn't shower so much love on someone who has crippled or evil thoughts. MJ was a great human being and an inspiration for everyone.
  • Binny Sharma
I just cannot accept the fact that he is no more with us. He is God for me and a true legend. Any number of words or expressions cannot match the magnanimity of the man. He will always be loved by everyone all across the world. I have profound respect for him and he is truly an inspiration for all of us who take dancing seriously.
  • Hariharan
He was and will always be a true genius. If you observe his dancing technique closely, you will find that he had a great co-ordination between musical beats and body movements. I still remember when I heard about his demise, I broke down immediately. The world needed him. He left too early. We need people like him who can take any art form to a different level altogether. He was a joy to mankind. My personal favourite is his album Off The Wall.
  • Shveta Salve
MJ was a legend. I have grown listening to his music right from the Jackson 5 days. I am his ardent fan and the news of his death absolutely shattered me. I think along with being a great dancer and a singer, he was also a great human being. Remembering him I would say that MJ we all love you and miss you a lot.
  • Meiyang Chang
The entire world idolises MJ and will continue idolising for years to come. We are lucky to live in an era where we could listen to his music and see his performances on television. I think his death was quite sudden and unexpected. It came as shock to his fans. All I know is that wherever he is right now, he is happy and peaceful.

Neha Marda to tie the knot

The actress will marry Patna-based businessman next year.Neha gets candid about her love life, marriage plans and more

Neha Mardas glowing these days and her beau thinks so too,she tells us.Ayushman Agarwal comes from a prominent business family in Patna. Its an arranged match that turned into love, she reveals. Her meeting with Ayushman has made her a firm believer of destiny. Both of us were skeptical. We knew we were meeting just because our parents wanted us to, she says. They met for the first time when Ayushman had come from Patna for a business meet. When his sister asked him over the phone about me,he told her,Actress hai, pata nahi acting kar rahi thi ya baat kar rahi thi, she shares.
But when they met the second time, sparks flew.He took me to his favourite restaurant in Mumbai, which coincidently is my favourite too.We were very comfortable with each other. However, she says confessing feelings for each other was not easy.We both were scared to confess,as wed told each other earlier that the meeting was not going to culminate into marriage. Shes glad that he asked her out again the next day.Though I wanted to go,when he asked first I said no,thinking it may look odd. Then he persisted, and over chocolate milk at Carter Road, the question was popped.
Neha knows that Patna is different from Mumbai, but she says,I realized that more than the place, its the people who matter. And this is a lovely family. Also, since Ayushman studied in Mumbai, hes familiar with the demands of this city.
She says that all those things her fianc thought would work against him worked otherwise.Acting is my passion, but I always wanted to live with my in-laws.I love chocolate boy looks and I always wanted a guy who wore spectacles and he does, she says. They got engaged on the auspicious Akshay Tritya and the big day is going to be in February 2011.We may fix it on February 10. And shes prepared to travel to and fro to her sets.Ill work things out.Ideally Id want a project which will require 10 days a month here. Though shes left out on some lead roles that came her way,she says her role in Balika Vadhu will not suffer.I may not take up a daily soap after marriage, but as long as Balika Vadhu is on Ill make time for it.I cant quit, its close to my heart
