Hi there

Nice one!!! 👍🏼 Glad to see you here...

Thank you or should I say thanks to you😊

right, just to get you going for now! 😉

1) What does your name mean? 😊

Not Holy Rice.!Well more than meaning,it has significance. The grains of rice used for sacred ceremonies is called "Akshata". I am not too sure if it is the feminine version of "Akshat" which means "one who cannot be harmed"

2) How long have you been in HKG?

Since 1992.
3) Where else in the world have yo travelled to?

My husband being in the Merchant Navy,I had the opportunity of visiting the US(Peurto Ricoand the East coast),Canada(Toronto),(UK(London), Africa(Nigeria and Ivory Coast).I have also been to Amsterdam(missed the tulips though).

Later I visited a friend in Bangkok.
4) How did you pick up such great english?

Hey,I did not pick it up😉.I learnt it at school. I have always liked languages and was one of the few students who NEVER bunked an English lecture even in college. I enjoy reading even a dictionary and a thesauras. But thanks for your compliment.
5) What are your "opening" thoughts on being MOW? So, tell us what you anticipate will happen? And then tell us at the end whether it did! 😉

My first thought: Did I do the right thing by accepting the seat? What if it gets too hot or still worse what if it gets too cold and no one asks any questions at all?

Well, more than anticipate I hope to have some interesting people out there ask me challenging questions and look forward to replying to them as candidly and humorously as I can.

Sure, but I think it will be an open secret.

....I will be back!!!!! 😆

Oh you must II.You have heard of multiple voting haven't you? Remember I am your candidate.😉

We do not have to be a part of any organization to preserve nature. Little things done by individuals preserve it. I could never have thought about cycled paper Ganpati. Something for me to think about for next year. We have no artificial plants either. Our aquarium also has live plants and we also have a terrarium for plants. So I can quite understand the no artificial plant thing. I love flower arrangements too.. but with the cat in the house, it is getting diffcult to keep him out of the flowers 😊

hey there....

I bet you're enjoying already... 😉 😛

ok, the grains of rice for sacred ceremonies makes sense....I'll still prob say holy rice (regardless of whether you mind! 😆 - it's nice to have a friend with a slightly annoying habit! 😉 )

So which language do the natives speak in HKG? Have you learnt it?OR PICKED IT UP? 😆

Regarding the seat, the hotter it gets, the more fun it is 😛

I liked your definition of a homemaker as someone who can make everyone including themselves happy without resentment....Can you tell us more about this? Any trade secrets you can perhaps divulge? 😉

When you did all that travelling to all those places, how did you travel? As in, did you guys travel as part of the ships of the (Indian?) merchant navy? If so, how was it?

Are you familiar with Indian History andd mythology/Legends? Do you like discussing them?

BTW...this is just to warm you up...I will try to find more challenging ones!😉

and BTW2...yep, u definately have my votes Aksh...I think you're from the ROCK gharana?😆

Absolutely. As long as one feels and acts youthful and not childish, life can be great even as one gets older.I have good friends from all age groups.

In what way is Hong Kong similar to India in culture? Is it the way they handle relationships or the way they relate to parents and elders or something else?

You would be amazed at the similarities....I would say they are very traditional too.It is still a conservative race and society. So yes, their relationship with parents/elders is quite similar. Joint family is prevailant and little kids playing in the park with their grandparents, while their parents are at work is a common sight.

We have the Vaastushastra, they believe in Feng Shui. They are very superstitous and their form of worship is so similar, like offerings of fruits and food to God on special occasions. They believe in the zodiac signs and astrology.

Hong Kong is like a metropolis of India. The chinese who come here for jobs are like people who come from smaller towns to big cities in India. And as far as the expats are concerned, each race/nationality has it's own clique so one can continue to follow one's practices without the fear of being looked down upon.

The society in HKG is facing similar social problems as ours back home.

And we were both ruled by the British.😉 So the influence is evident.

Cheers

Thanks.

I joined the forum late and no doubt have missed some of your posts but i've read a few and it's very nice. I like your style of writing and the subtle way you put your thoughts.hats off to you!!

Thank you again.😳

How long have u been living in HK?

Since 1992.
Have you ever found it difficult to manage certain circumstances living away from your folks?Have u felt like, had it been in India,it wud've been different?

This is question that brings back so many memories of my early years in HKG.When I just moved here,it seemed very challenging because, for the first time I was setting up a place by myself.I had lived in a joint family back home in Pune.

So initially I enjoyed the independance and did not miss them in that sense.(I am very close to my parents and parents in law and missed their company).

It was during my son's adolesence, that I missed home and my folks.I felt so strongly that he was losing his roots completely, you will be shocked to know that we took the major decision of moving back to India. My son and I actually went back and stayed with my parents in law for 3 years! Mind you it wasn't easy on my husband or myself. But today we have no regrets.I must say we are fortunate that the gamble paid off. Our son is a confident and self respecting individual and it makes me happy to say that he has friends of all nationalities who love him and respect him for what he is.

Have fun on the hot seat.

With people like all of you asking me questions that give a chance to write so much, believe me,I am having fun. Only hope you guys are not bored reading my rather long replies. Well,Sree did warn all of you that off late writing is one of my hobbies!😊

Best wishes to you.

Best wishes to you too.Have a nice weekend.

Hi Vasantha,
You asked:Do you collect stuff.. if so, what is your favourite collection?

Sarees...my husband would have said 😆
Nothing in particular.Did try to make a collection of some Swarovski creations, but gave up some time back.
I like to have curios depicting various cultures, but can't possess too many as apartments in HKG are not very big and I wouldn't want my home to look like a museum.
If you are talking about collections like stamps/currency then no,I don't have any.

What career path does your son want?
He wants to study Finance and International Business relations and talks about studying Law later on.

You don't annoy me,not so bhola desi.

So which language do the natives speak in HKG? Have you learnt it?OR PICKED IT UP? 😆

The locals here speak Cantonese, though now the official language is Mandarin.I have to say that I have only picked up a few words of Cantonese to get by and I haven't made the effort to learn the language.

I might do it once my son leaves for Univ.

Regarding the seat, the hotter it gets, the more fun it is 😛

If I remain cool, sure it will be a joy ride.

I liked your definition of a homemaker as someone who can make everyone including themselves happy without resentment....Can you tell us more about this? Any trade secrets you can perhaps divulge? 😉

Thanks for your compliment II but I was not really defining it,I pointed it out as the toughest part of being one. Actually it goes for any woman, not just a housewife. It is my personal belief that a working woman gets remuneration and appreciation from outside the family and this boosts her morale. For a house wife the things she does at home are of a "thankless" nature. This is not to say that she is not appreciated at all.It would depend on her spouse. But most of her daily chores are mere duties that can be carried out by maids nowadays. So there could be a feeling of resentment and self pity that she is sacrificing all the time but no one values it,which she must overcome. She must do things that are close to her heart and bring her some happiness...the other members have to make adjustment as well.

Speaking for myself,I keep a couple of days a week for myself..for charity work, some time during the day to watch my favorite TV shows, etc.

When you did all that travelling to all those places, how did you travel? As in, did you guys travel as part of the ships of the (Indian?) merchant navy? If so, how was it?

I sailed with my husband and the rest of the crew.It was great fun and I had a memorable time.Especially because I have sailed just once. All those places I mentioned were visited on the same trip. It was a reefer and had limited life boat capacity,so we were the only family allowed. Everyone pampered us,specially my son,who was 4 then.

It was quite an experience.....various countries...various laws. Sometimes we sailed for days and longed to see land, but it was fun.

Are you familiar with Indian History and mythology/Legends? Do you like discussing them?

I am familiar with both and enjoy discussing, provided I know enough when the topic comes up.

BTW...this is just to warm you up...I will try to find more challenging ones!😉

I am sure you will.

.

and BTW2...yep, u definately have my votes Aksh...I think you're from the ROCK gharana?😆

Rock gharana.....no😒. Read my Signature again.

Hey Nisha! Good to hear from you.

So you mentioned you like sarees...do you like the sarees simran wears ... and what kind of saree's do you like wearing ?!

I LOVE sarees. I don't really like the ones that Simran wears... some of them before the leap in the earlier episodes were nice.Except for the black/white Kanjeevaram she wore for Harsh's wedding in London,I can't recall any. I always preferred Dr.Dayal's,(wasn't she) and Urmila's sarees.

I like Cottons,Chanderis, Silks without too much zari.I like pastel and dark colors but not bright colors. Occasionaly I wear chiffons but not other synthetics.

hong kong...i have never been, what would you say the best thing about it is ??? also, where else in the world would you like to live and why... ?

You haven't? Then you must.Do let me know if you do.

The best thing..DIM SUMS!Jokes aside it is the good blend of the East and West, but from a tourist's point of view,I think it's the public transport. It's efficiency has been rated as the best in the world.

Maybe Singapore.....can't imagine living anywhere else other than Asia. US seems an attractive place only because I have lots of family there...almost all over the US.

do you feel any similarities with the character of simran ... why ???

Just a few qualities. That's why I could relate to her in the begining. I have always given people another chance and my relationship with my in laws does not get affected with the differences my husband and I might have or he might have with them. My father and I share a simliar relationship like Saurabh and Simran.😃 I know lots of people out there dislike Mr.Mathur. Our circumstances are different, but my dad still thinks I need to be protected by him, but I never let him interfere.

Other than that ,I'm not like her at all.

this is for now..will be back with more!

Sure my friend, I do need the questions to remain on this seat for a week.If the TRPs fall,I'll be dethroned.😳😉

Cheers

Hi Aksh

Don't worry, you cannot be dethroned from the Hot Seat so easily, as you are fabulous with your answers... 😛

Which has been your Best Scene to-date in Astitva?

Which has been your Worst Scene to-date in Astitva?

Who according to you, is the Best Actor/Actress in Astitva?

What would you have done if you had a daughter like the Real Astha? How different would you have handled her?

Can you write few lines, maybe a poem, which will describe Astitva the best?

Also, can you describe in few lines, this Section of Astitva in IF?

Which are the posts you have loved the most in this Section?

These are few of my Questions.... Will be back!!!😳
