Part 8
Rathore and the entire ETF team was at the hospital. They flew to Delhi, the moment they heard about Arjun being fatally injured. The team was worried, but Rathore knew that Arjun would fight. He was not among those who would let death defeat him so easily. And so after an intense two day long battle-Arjun regained consciousness.
He looked around and saw the anxious faces of his team members. It took some time for him to be fully aware of his bearings and then he got restless- "Rathore, they have taken her...".
" I know..Arjun..calm down.."
"CALM DOWN!!...Rathore do you get me??...She has been taken..what happened..ransom??
"Yes"
"How much?"
"10 plus withdrawing his name from the elections".
"OK..and..is ETF investigating?"
"It is too late,Arjun."
They both looked at each other in the eye. A silence which said a lot.
Rathore was hesitating and Arjun understood.
"So,she is...dead?"he said with disbelief.
"Yes"
The ETF team expected an uproar. But silence was all they could get. Arjun just stared at the ceiling for long and slowly closed his eyes.
"The ransom was ready but the politicians messed up. They sent a police force at the drop-point and one of the kidnapper's got shot. In rage we got a call from the kingpin and he said we will have to pay for the mistake and ...shot her"
Arjun did not respond.
"Arjun we need the details. We will come back later. OH..and we got this from the crime site. We were wondering if this is a clue dropped by the kidnapper's or what?"
Arjun opened his eyes and stared at the plastic wrapped evidence- It was the cross she gave him.
"The police was wondering if this was yours...I told them that no chance of this being yours..so just want to confirm if this was Kiara's?"
He took the cross in his hand and felt it through his fingers-
"This is mine" he said at last. The gift was finally accepted.
Rahore gave him surprised look..but he asked his team to leave him as he was- Alone.
They walked away from the room and Rathore quietly requested the Doctor to put Arjun on some sedatives to ease his pain.
But he was not in pain. He was burning. He was on fire.
