See, you have to understand that the rules are different for everyone.

Anupamaa can never be wrong in life, whatever she does. But at that the same time she is also incapable of taking any decisions on her own and is constantly fooled and deceived by others. So whatever be the situation, she is always the one wronged. She can canoodle with the same man who has threatened to kill and harm her husband several times, because her rishta with that man cannot ever be questioned

Consider the scenario now, Anujpamaa are separate, so if she goes with Vanraj eventually when his plan succeeds so it will still be Anuj's fault and then Vanraj. Why? Because the former left her and the latter manipulated her. She herself cannot say or do anything by her own will. And since Vanraj has been given a lifetime character certificate of acche pita and one who can never be ghatiya by the unpaid maid herself, his share of the blame will be lesser. But Anuj character is tainted simply because Maaya is interested in him. The debate ends there with no scope of further discussion

Yes, one should let go and be friends or more with the abusive ex who cheated on you because it has also happened in Bolly/Telly (based on highly verified articles in gossip rags and tweets which give an accurate analysis of what really happened). And you forgot the most important conclusion. When nothing else makes sense, just say that this is a fictional show and characters would behave a certain way for drama. But as a viewer you have to only watch as per these rules laid down (don't ask by whom) and not say a word about it. 😉
