I am a primitive man: Salman Khan
That's quintessentially Salman Khan —whether it's discussing his 'bratty'
image or his alleged animosity with Priyanka Chopra
Salman Khan's next film is Rumi Jaffrey's God Tussi Great Ho releasing this Friday. Ask him what he would like changed if he was to play God and he says with his trademark honesty, "Only God can play God. It is too much of a responsibility, especially for me, who is not even responsible enough to play myself properly."

Is it embarrassing when women throw themselves at him as host of a TV show? Smiling shyly, he says, "They are all so sweet. They do it in good faith because they feel I am one of them. They make me feel so welcome. I am a man of the masses. I don't fit into the classes because I am a primitive man. I have a slight problem fitting in modern society because I am neither politically nor socially correct. When I have to react, I react, no matter what."

He says the show finally shows the real him. "This is what I am like, what I would be at home. I had this fear whether people would accept the real me…but so far so good."
His reputation always precedes him. What does he have to say? "That was a created image. Sometimes when they spoke about me, I felt they were talking about someone else. It never bothered me though. I never even cared to clarify. Earlier I was worse. It was Sajid Nadiadwala who told me, 'You need to speak to the media once in a while'.

So now when I have something to say, I say it. But the masses always knew the real me. If they had believed what the media had to say, I would not have survived. My career would have been over 18 years ago. No one would have touched me."

Priyanka Chopra, his co-star in God Tussi Great Ho and he seemed to have some problems but Salman dismisses them. "No, not really. It's not that we don't get along.

We don't talk too much. I don't have an issue. I don't know if she has one. I am not the kind who goes around being extra friendly. When we meet I say, 'Hello Ms Chopra' and she says, 'Hello Mr Khan' and that's about it. I have never interacted with her as a friend and she never was a friend…though somehow people had this impression that we were buddies. That's not true."

I never had problems with Salman: Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra shoots for Salman's show and rubbishes that there was a rift between them

Priyanka Chopra has shot a special episode of Salman Khan's television game show Dus Ka Dum, brushing aside reports of differences having cropped up between them.

Priyanka appeared on the show along with her good friend and Chamku co-star Bobby Deol. The actress had reportedly refused to appear on Dus Ka Dum along with beau
Harman Baweja before the release of their film Love Story 2050.

Priyanka said the shoot was done in the early hours of Wednesday and that she had a great time with Salman, her co-star in forthcoming film God Tussi Great Ho.

"We shot the episode from 1 am to 4 am. I had a tough time keeping my eyes open. But Salman entertained us all through. He played a double role — he was both the host and the hero of one of the films I was promoting," Priyanka said.

Asked about the rumoured cold war between them, Priyanka said, "When did I ever say I had any problems with Salman? We make a fantastic on-screen pair. We proved it in Mujhse Shaadi Karoge. And now again in God Tussi Great Ho we rock together. Amitji (Amitabh Bachchan) plays god, by the way. As for Salman, he's always fun on the sets.

By the way, Priyanka did win some money on the show too. In fact, in her words, 'lots of money'.

"He had me in splits during the shooting. He had Bobby and me entertained throughout Dus Ka Dum. And yes we both won a lot of money," Priyanka said.

While God Tussi... is set for an August 15 2008 release, Chamku is to hit theatres on August 22 2008.

Priyanka's new stand
It was reported that earlier Priyanka refused to be a guest on Salman's show despite repeated requests from the production staff.

It is also being rumoured now that they have been forced to bury the hatchet as their film is about to release now.

Priyanka is also rumoured to be rebuilding her burnt bridges after her split with her former boyfriend Harman Baweja post the Love Story 2050 debacle.

Priyanka now says that she was never Harman Baweja's fiancee.

King Akshay gives Salman Khan and Ranbir Kapoor run for their money

NEW DELHI: Two romantic comedies "Bachna Ae Haseeno" and "God Tussi Great Ho" - both releasing Friday - are getting a cold response at the ticket counter in terms of advance bookings, thanks to the overwhelming reaction to last week's release, 'Singh is Kinng'.

The films are releasing over a long weekend that marks Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan celebrations. But distributors and cinema owners in Delhi are keeping the Akshay Kumar starrer on regular screening slots because it is doing good business.

"'Singh is...', which released last week, is still going strong and would be the first choice of family audiences during the festival weekend," Joginder Mahajan, a Delhi-based distributor, said.

"'Bachna Ae...' is only for the young audience vis-?is 'God Tussi...', which is a film for the masses because of Salman Khan's presence."

"There has also been no pre-release tempo preceding both the films. Even their music has not made a mark in comparison to the music of 'Singh is Kinng' that is still driving people crazy," he added.

Director Siddharth Anand's "Bachna Ae..." is the story of a Casanova, played by Ranbir Kapoor, and his three girlfriends - Deepika Padukone, Minissha Lamba and Bipasha Basu.

"God Tussi..." by Rumi Jafry is said to be a remake of Hollywood movie "Bruce Almighty" and stars Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra in the lead. Amitabh Bachchan too features in the movie as the almighty.

In terms of budget, producer Afzal Khan invested around Rs.400 million in "God Tussi..." and comparatively Yash Raj Films' (YRF) "Bachna Ae..." is a medium-budget film. Its total cost is about Rs.190 million.

"God Tussi..." will be released worldwide with around 700 prints. YRF refused to divulge details regarding the prints but director Siddharth Anand said the movie would be released with the average print limit of the banner for a medium-budget project.

A reliable source from PVR cinemas said: "There is a good pre-release response to all the three movies. However, it is true that 'Singh Is...' is still managing high sales."

Anjali Malhotra, manager, brand communications, Adlabs, echoed the same saying: " 'Singh...' is going strong in its second week and is expected to keep on garnering sales. But we have divided our screens equally for all the three movies."

However, Ashok Bisht, assistant manager of Jam Cinemas, Ghaziabad, showed confidence in the Ranbir starrer, saying: "We are expecting a good business with 'Bachna Ae...' because of the Yash Raj banner in comparison to 'God Tussi...' but 'Singh is...' is still getting us business of around 70 percent even on weekdays."

However, the slow start at the booking counter has neither disturbed Anand nor Jafry - both directors are confident of their projects.

Anand said: "Nothing affects the ticket sales. It is tough, but it depends on the film. If an individual has to go for a film, then he or she will definitely go for it, come what may."

Jafry stated: "I don't fear any movie. There is nobody greater than god and I have my faith in him. My movie is commercial, but different. The audience would come to know of it when they will watch it."

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh too is optimistic of both the releases and is looking forward to watching them.

He said: "There are a lot of expectations from both the movies. Both are big projects and have big stars. It would be a great holiday period and the movies are expected to do great business."

"However, what movie fares well at the box office depends upon the content that is the driving force of a film," he concluded.

Salman gifts a Raj Kapoor painting to Ranbir

No matter how tough Salman Khan looks from outside, he is an ultra soft side which not many people know of.

Well, after having gained the reputation of being the proverbial Bad Boy of Bollywood, its only time for Salman to show his soft side. And what better platform for it then his popular game show 10 Ka Dum. The episode in question had Ranbir Kapoor along with his (onscreen) leading ladies Deepika and Minissha Lamba, who were on the 'Independence Day' special show to promote their forthcoming film Bachna Ae Haseeno.

Even as they were shooting, Ranbir got very emotional because they were shooting at RK Studios. An emotion-filled Ranbir said that his grandfather (the late Raj Kapoor) shot his first film Aag in that studio, while his dad (Rishi Kapoor) shot for his first film Bobby there and now he too was shooting at the same place! Salman made the evening even more memorable for the teenage heartthrob Ranbir by presenting him a painting of Raj Kapoor that he specially painted for the chalet he has at RK.

Way to go, Salman!

Mohe Rang De...
Salman Khan
Religiously secular...

Salman Khan's family is a study in secularism. Father Salim Khan's first wife Salma is Maharashtrian and second, Helen, a Christian. They have adopted a Hindu girl Arpita and the values that bind this big family together continue to be multicultural and innately humane

"We believe in human beings. Religion comes later. There is no point in being religious just for the heck of it. A bad person from any religion is a bad person and a good person from any religion is a good person. How can we say that a person is good or bad because he belongs to a particular religion? It's all about being a good human being before anything else."

Dus Ka Dum gearing up for Season 2?

Sony's mighty happy with the noises that Synergy's Dus ka Dum is making on their TRP charts. Though, the channel has been clear in is communication that they are not in the race for making a dent on the TRP chart, post Shahrukh Khan's show, Kya Aap Panchvi Paas se Tez Hain which barely left a dent on the viewers, rumors has it that Sony did have apprehension about the game show, but it was their big ticket show to match Star Plus's gaming show.

Would it work or wouldn't it? Would the viewers tune into catching Salman Khan weave his magic on the small screen or would it turn out to be a damnp squib were questions that floated around in hushed whispers.

When we contacted Albert Almedia, he said, "We have signed Salman Khan for three seasons. Season I is still on. We are very happy with the show and see no reason why we shouldn't make a comeback with season two and three."

Salman's success comes from the fact that there is a novelty value in seeing him on the small screen and to Sony's advantage, Salman is also extremely popular with Indian households.

The best part of "Dus Ka Dum" is that it is not a quiz unlike "Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hain" or a "Kaun Banega Crorepati" which required a certain knowledge quotient on the part of the contestants. Salman is seen to build a close bond with the participants by using local lingo such as "Chaap Do" instead of "lock kar diya jaye" or "Freeze kar diya jaye" which were used by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan respectively in Kaun Banega Crorepati.

Salman has established a very good connect with the' common man' of India and the same reflects in the degree of comfort of the contestants who shed their inhibitions once they play the game with him!

HE PROPOSES, SHE DISPOSES

Salman Khan is an excellent actor but an unlucky lover. Though he has succeeded in his filmi career he has been a loser in his personal life. The latest has come from none other than the most promising diva of Bollywood that Katrina Kaif is. She has turned down Sallu's marriage proposal! While the macho actor has recently boasted of marrying next year and also having a baby, Kat has denied that she is marrying with him. She says, "I think Salman said whatever he wanted to say. Let people make of it whatever they want. I have never commented on the personal side in the media. I don't wish to start right now." One can conclude that the lady is still not sure of marriage. After all, she is only 24 and career is her top priority whereas Sallu is old enough to hurry up with marriage.

Katrina proposes and Salman disposes
It was his girlfriend who convinced Khan that Anil Sharma would be apt to direct his period drama Veer, reports Noyon Jyoti Parasara

Salman Khan is busy shooting for his next movie Veer, the script for which he has written. After much speculation over who would finally be directing the movie, it's Anil Sharma who is wielding the baton.

Anil has Katrina Kaif to thank this for. Salman says, "Katrina has worked with Anil before (in Apne with Sunny and Bobby Deol). She said that he is a good director and would do a good job."

It may be noted that in the recent past there were some rumours about Anil no more being a part of the project. This was following reports, which alleged that the director had made an indecent proposal to an aspiring actress who was sent to him by Salman for audition. Both Salman and Anil had reacted to the report. Anil had denied the accusations levied on him.

Talking about Veer, Salman says, "It's a great film. It's about men. It's about honour and pride." The actor also asserts that the film is not just going to be about high voltage drama and action but also include lighter moments. "It has lot of comedy too," he says. The film also stars Mithun Chakraborty.

Salman was recently quoted saying that he would only like to do films which made people smile.

"The film should make you laugh. When the audiences leave the theatres they should feel that they have a brother, a friend or even they themselves are similar to the characters portrayed."

Veer is a period film set in 1880.
