Don't know why TV is criticized: Ekta Kapoor

Ekta Kapoor, who has given the small screen a string of trendsetting shows, wonders why content on television is criticized for being "diluted".

"I don't know why television has always been criticized, especially me, for being slightly diluted, homogeneous and definitely not path-breaking or for not discussing issues which are uncomfortable," Ekta said here at the launch of her new show 'Pyar Ko Ho Jaane Do'.

"We are so scared of getting uncomfortable and we are happy to be in safe zones as far as TV shows are concerned. No channel or production house takes risk to talk about the issues that existed in our society," added Kapoor, who spearheads Balaji Telefilms, which has given the small screen shows like 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi', 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii' and 'Bade Achche Lagte Hain'.

"There was a time when 'Kyunki...' was the most popular show in Afghanistan. It changed the thought process of women," she said.

Her new show features seasoned actors Iqbal Khan and Mona Singh as the protagonists.

All the best with your new show Pyaar ko hoo jane do ...
With all due respect to indian tv serials and their makers

i would like to say tht in India almost all serials have same stories
either a typical saas bahu
Aur a bubbly girl or a poor girl falling for an arrogant or a rich guy
most of the shows are romantic dramas

Whereas when we compare our serials with western countries ..
we find them much much better and beyond a certain level
like Games of throne .. House M.D. . Castle ... Prison Break ... Homeland ... Flash .. Zindagi Gulzar hai etc.

They are DIFFERENT

You cannt say another romantic drama refreshing and different ..

So i requst all the makers to think beyond romantic drama and pls come up with something thrilling

And make Television a better place

Sorry to say but BT and also other production houses make shows that start with fanfare promising "new concepts", but disintegrate into nonsense every time.Women are portrayed as chattels that are always do-gooders.Even the educated women quit their jobs and start acting like some perfect woman in a magazine, all decked up and stirring a pot or two.The concepts are regressive.Marriage is everything. No shows about single women. Then there is all the supernatural nonsense with Chudail, Dayaan, Bhoot, black magic etc. Memory loss, people coming back from the dead, rebirth, you name it. With such concepts, how can Indian TV be admired? You get a few good shows with realistic stories like Reporters. Let's hope this new offering is not ruined totally in a few months!

she dosent know why tv is criticised ? can we compare our tv with world television. plastic surgery, purn janam, regressive portrayal of women, glorifying men in women's life. 24 hours make up saree, woman doing saazish. a general example in love stories hero is boss. heroine is secreatry. heroine does job before marriage but after marriage she quits job starts.wearing saree and job no discuss even for a single time. over the top drama in every thing. unealistic tracks. encouraging superstition like diya bhuj guya, tufaan aa guya. shows going for ages like it will never end. dragging tracks like chewgum indian tv was going good till 1999. star best sellers and rishtey were daily episodic shows. no story one can discuss scenes. but no story. from 80s till 90s story was important but now obsession with TRP. unrealistic shows story. no show for woman empowerment. first udaan rajni used to come but now regressive portrayal of woman. they show like a woman cannot lve without husband ! no career thinking ! we live in which century ?? indian tv has to grow a lott !

It's not so scared of being uncomfortable really.. And may all your shows provide us reasonable answers for your question.. Why can't you people make inspiring shows with a positive content, impactful message with some logical applying of twists and turns, recovering or tactics to survive in this horrible society . But Indian TV dramas is completely ruined by illogical and crappy dramas.. So many sensitive and crime based issues going about women yet still you people are writing same grinded scripts like black magic, devils and spirits when whole world is talking about women empowerment and their career development.. Look who is talking and why TV is still criticised? Hope you get answers from all your shows..

For the very same reason you revamped YHM - a show that was meant to pioneer and so-called discuss and put rest to social causes and speak about dogmas' that prevail in and massacare out society - into a vomit inducing, TRP oriented drama whose current track is or was Raman's (the male lead's) ex-wife flinging herself to her death and then possessing Ishita (Raman's current wife).

>> The answer to your query Miss Kapoor is that when channels and production houses take up and speak for such causes and if by chance the show taking up the cause gets popular the very same PH and Channel butchers it because apparently to them it turns out to be a new sprinter in the race.

I don't know much about you, personally, apart from what I hear of you but I'm sorry to say that I did respect you for launching YHM and at the same time fail to put myself in the same category as you (as a girl/woman of the nation) because in search of ways to redeem your now heavily declining popularity you fail to realise that you are but ruining the little bit you have left.

Your shows are failing, your audience doesn't trust you and even the local audience knows better that you avoid shows which come with the symbolic 1:30 minute montage that airs with every premiere episode of your shows.

That is the answer to tor questions and to the badly played PR gimmics that even commoners like me are able to call you out on. (Yes, I'm talking about the badly played PR stunt you did with YHM the minute the TRP started plummeting.)editDate>2015-11-02 ...ed...

Please don't ruin this new show Pyaar ko Ho Jane do... Ekta is world famous for ruining good concept, screen jodi's and storylines. But somewhere lets blame our society too who keep on watching and giving TRP to.. Bhoot, black magic, people returning from the dead, plastic surgery like stupid twists.

Tv is criticised for unrealistic content , regressive , sexist portrayal of women preaching patriarchy and your shows were and are pioneers in setting that trend which every other makers follwed eventually. These words does not suit her after ruining basic concept of content driven entertainment on television. I myself watch her shows with the expectation that how soon distortions and downfall will start. She never disappoints.
